Hello there!
Blocking has had to be patched a few times, and we realize that has made it unwieldy and imperfect in how it handles things as well as what it's intended to address in general. Unfortunately, though, implementing major changes in the current coding is just going to be a bandaid at best and may break something else at worse. A unified approach to the blocking system that plays nice with other features and takes into account feedback like this is the plan for V2. and Keith is working on that. However, as sole coder working with a lot of systems, it is taking some time.
One thing that should still be the case, though, is that users cannot send gifts to someone who has blocked them! If that is going on or even if you suspect an anonymous box got though because of a bug, please file a ticket. Heck, for harassing gifts in general, please let us know so we can take the appropriate action.

I'm sorry to hear that people had such a bad experience -.- I hope they will revamp the blocking system soon.
I haven't used it yet (maybe because I am not that publicly active here), but no one knows - I could also need the blocking one day.
While I agree that the blocking system does need some serious attention, I don't think its as simple as is being discussed here.
For one thing the assumption is that people block mainly because the blockee has done something bad to the blocker and therefore anything bad that comes of blocking is the fault of the blockee. That's not always the case. For example, I've heard of people blocking because an HA is bothering them, the blockee has done nothing wrong, they haven't bullied or harassed the person, just wore something the person is uncomfortable with. They may only intend to block temporarily, but later forget to unblock. With a complete block, where the blocker can negatively affect the blockee's site experience, that can become a problem. I've heard of many valid reasons for blocking that are not the "fault" of the blockee and therefore shouldn't harm the blockee.
Loopholes in the blocking system - such as being able to dance with, kiss, etc, blocked people through the random system - need to be fixed. However, I think the main issues discussed here, the buying/selling CWs, regular shop items and price manipulation through autopricer, all need a different solution.
I also think that we need to have a proper list of what blocking currently blocks so we can know if something is a bug or an intended consequence. I'm pretty sure that there is a list somewhere (on the block page? the rules page?), but I don't think its accurate.

Yes, it hides CWs from blocked users. The previous CW system hid a lot of things too; we got a lot of user feedback about, say, wanting to not see blocked users in the CW feed, wanting to not see them in CW shops, etc. Our newer code is super nice and makes it possible for us to implement 100% coverage with blocking, so that it can work the way it ideally should: that people you&;ve blocked/who&;ve blocked you should basically not exist to you (so like, your game experience should be as if that user does not exist at all on the website)
And several posts later, it was acknowledged how people have shared that they're not comfortable with blocked users being able to buy from their shops:
So yeah, based on all of that, I'm surprised to hear that blocked users don't seem to be blocked from purchasing from CW shops. 😟
i get what you're saying about the older coding, and potentially breaking stuff, but from what it sounds like, at the very least, the newer coding (where the cw system is housed), should be able to support stopping users from buying from your release shop. maybe im wrong there based on bugs previous feedback, or it's not working as intended, but like someone said earlier on...
So I can appreciate that you know it's an issue, but it's the type of thing that's actively making people leave the site, or at the very least, releasing less cws etc, which hurts the bottom line of the site. I also feel like mentioning it's being worked on for V2 is a little bit of a bandaid, at best. Because that is such an unknown timeframe, unknown future of the site. It's just super frustrating. That, combined with the fact that nothing is being done at all to combat the autopricing abuse (where autopricing is a gold feature), makes a lot of paid portions of the site frustrating.
Thanks for replying though, I'm glad to see you guys saw this.
brings up a good point - speaking from experience, I've blocked people who I haven't directly interacted with, and been blocked by people I haven't spoken to. In a few cases where I was the blocker, I had intended the blocking to be temporary. Looking at my list of people I've blocked, there's definitely a couple who I intended to unblock after a certain amount of time--but they've since deactivated their accounts or something. Whoops!
I kind of wish there was a temporary mute option or something. So for the cases where the blockee hasn't done anything wrong or specifically bothered another user, people could temporarily hide their posts, but otherwise continue to buy from their store(s) and such. In these cases, it should still probably be possible to see threads the muted person has made, since being able to see bug reports and such is important to have access to. Or even just holiday threads, like "dance with the user above you" things.
Blocking should still be an option, but it should hide everything and prevent all interaction between users (including shop purchases and the like). It's never going to be an elegant solution, but other websites have introduced ways of halting interaction or viewing someone's posts without blocking - e.g. muting/"snoozing" someone on Facebook or Twitter. I make liberal use of those features for people I still want to follow and be friends with, but who retweet/share a lot of junk that I'm not interested in seeing.
If I’m gonna block someone or vice versa, I would appreciate if it went all the way around. They don’t bother me and I don’t bother them. If someone is aggravating enough to end up on my block list, I do not want to see their name anywhere. I don’t even want their virtual money and that means buying from my cw shop or my user shop. I have had to ask my artists to sell me their copy of the item they made just to keep my item out of a blocked persons hands. Especially if they’ve blocked me. You dislike me enough to block me so don’t buy my items.
Especially since nothing is being done about users who purposefully price retired items well below market price and wait for users to autoprice their shops before swooping them all up and reselling at the market rates. People shouldn’t have to manually look up prices of everything in their shop because of this vampire. It’s people like this that makes the current block feature absolutely useless.
Thank you for taking the time to look at this. I am deeply disappointed to see a "we are working on it" with no timeframe. We do pay money to make this site more enjoyable, but learning that blocked users can somewhat evade their block by purchasing from our CW/user shops definitely made me less inclined to spend more money on the site's subscription and buying CW designs from our artists. When I found out about the new CW system, I was thrilled and bought a subscription when it first came out in hopes of it being improved in the future. I stopped purchasing as soon I found out about these flaws and staff's inaction to address issues. Today I learned that blocking was supposed to do more for its users during the CW revamp from about 2 years ago. The system itself hasn't had any changes made to it in two years. We were promised more and we only saw bug after bug that took nearly a month to address. If blocking was supposed to prevent the blocked from purchasing from our official CW shops, why was this not worked on sooner? Instead, we have this system where it punishes the people who use it.
I was recently blocked by a user (and I wasn't mean to them at all) for giving some advice on the topic they asked about. I can still see their posts and forum posts even though they blocked me. I'm not sure if blocking is supposed to prevent you from being able to see their stuff, or just from interacting with each other.
Blocking would be nice if did everything. Prevented from buying CWs, purchasing from your user shop etc. I'm sure there will be fix for this eventually? :c
I have to admit, I've purchased CWs that I thought I could use, but tried everything to work with them, so I sell them a few days later. I'm going to try and be mindful because of what you've posted about reselling, but I resell at slot price or 50csc lower.
what you're mentioning is totally fine. I think people buy stuff all the time and then later decided it doesn't work and resell. What some people do though is buy multiples of an item and use them for trading fodder immediately, or they buy and then reprice 1k-3k more for a profit or for trade. That's more of the annoyance tbh!
That, I don't do. It's really a shame that other people would take advantage like that
As someone trying to get the Ametsuchi, I see this basically every day with people buying up hundreds of various Recycle Beast items just to turn around and resell at 3500 SP. And then I see several dozen of those items days later, sitting in the shop at 3500 SP. So they're likely out a few 100k depending on how many items they focused on.
But the autoprice abuse is no bueno in my book. Its not about raising the price for everybody, its about lowering the price for the people shopping at the point between your manual repricing and their autopricing. Because there's so many items and a humble userbase, if you can get one of a valuable but rarely purchased item, the only person shopping for that item will be you.
If we had a big enough userbase, this would be less bad, because these autopricing snipers would be punished by their own items getting shopped out from under their noses. This is kind of a huge deal in how MMO Auction Houses feel different in the big games- and one thing that's freaking people out about small server population in WoW. Really fascinating stuff.
Honestly, I love how Subeta feels so comfy and homey despite being so currency driven. Kind of a miracle this place hasn't turned sharky like most commerce focused games.
IMO, the best thing would be to add an extra step in autopricing where you can set a starting price threshold, and a percent price decrease threshold filter.
So you set it for 1,000,000 SP, and you get a new list saying New Price is 800,000 SP. That is a 20% decrease. Click to exclude from Autoprice. ☑️
That way, the price could still drop naturally but you can't get sniped for less than the filter percentage you set.

I was mainly mentioning cws! So if you buy a cw at 450csc, and it has limited stock (10-20), where people miss out, and then you buy extras to sell at 2kcsc, 3kcsc, to make a gigantic $20 worth profit. Is more egregious. & it is risky, of course, but it happens a lot for certain things x_x
The autopricing this is super annoying to me and frustrating, but usuallly isn't that egregious, and is less real world currency involved. It's icky all around, but alas.
I like the suggestion though. Give me a separate section of huge price drops (haha in my dreams). However, when you price newly added items, and don't know they've been reduced in the first place, you're just cucked. Which is why I'd like to block some people. Ah well! I like your opinion, very well thought out.
We don't want to give a particular timeframe that we then have to adjust when something else happens. There is way more than just one system at play for Subeta and being able to say, 'let's do a patch or a complete rework of this thing' for blocking is one more in the pile of database, servers, and overall operation as well as life circumstances slowing things down. The user shop and the CW release shop, for instance, are two different systems and integration would be the only way to stop the username from showing up when someone purchases from a user shop.
Since they blocked you, they do not see your presence around the site except in systems where the coding doesn't handle exceptions well (like user shops). If you want to remove them from your experience, you would need to block them.
In terms of the autopricer, we're looking at solutions but the risk of compromising its operation is a worry. We would also want more user input on what people want to see so we can do a big project of it rather than several small tinkers that have the potential to break some other part of it, and the suggestions so far are a great start! While I am going to close this thread because I can keep your feedback in mind and add it to the ongoing project, I am going to start one over in Brainstorming for Autopricer Ideas. Please leave your suggestions over at https://subeta.net/forums.php/read/927784
Thank you!

Per community feedback and my mention in the other thread, this one is being re-opened.
However, please take discussion of the autopricer specifically to the autopricer suggestions thread! Also, suggestions are great and we're really hoping for, as a community, a more upbeat space talking about possibilities and ideas. 'I don't like this' makes sense and is useful feedback, but at the same time per community guidelines please try not to make this a negative space!
As well, in regards to harassment or issues with other users, please remember to file a ticket if it is ongoing and we can address it under community guidelines even if it's not covered under the software as it is now! But we can't fix what we don't have a full or even partial picture on.
Thank you. I'm sorry I acted hastily and hope you'll give me another chance, and appreciate all of you being part of Subeta. This site and its community is so full of memories and joy for so many people and we do want to foster that for all Subetans.

Is it possible to get a better definition of harassment in the rules? So far the only mention I see is "if you feel harassed" which probably might be too vague if there is more than on person here who didn't know that something was okay to report.
I'm also curious is even talking about a blocked person is against the rules? I've seen screenshots offsite of things I person blocked has said about me and my friends onsite but they didn't mention my name in particular (but they brought the group I run so I know they talking about me) so I don't know if I could even report. It was also months ago - is that a factor or no?
This thread was just reopened! I feel it's an important topic that involves personal safety and cws to an extent, and so am pinging you all! ❤️
I personally don't have anyone blocked, but my main concern is minors having the tools necessary to protect themselves from grooming; This is a site that attracts an extremely wide range of ages and imho a solid block feature is vital.
People in general would also be in a better position to safeguard their own mental wellbeing if the block system functioned the way it should!
Some other great points have also been made on this topic. Thank u guys for the support!
I've blocked several accounts over the years - mostly because I felt uncomfortable with the reading their posts for varying reasons. I didn't want to have to full-on block them (especially as they then know I've blocked them!), so a mute option would be a perfect addition, even if it was set to 30 days with no other options :) That way I could actually clear some (if not all) of my block list, as I didn't specifically want to avoid all contact with most of those accounts, I just didn't want to come across their posts at that point!
I'm assuming a tag feature to block triggering words would be a lot more coding (especially if we could add in our own trigger words we want to hide on the forums, like you can on twitter), but if it was possible in the future, then that would be perfect. For those who don't use that on twitter, it covers the post with "this reply contains words you've muted" (or something like that) and you can choose to click to read it, or just pass on by.
(quote is taken from About the locking of threads)

Twitter's filter for words is a joke.

It's unfortunately too dependent on a lot of different factors to handle it as anything other than a case-by-case basis, which is why we encourage reporting. If someone tries to claim something was an innocent mistake, having the documentation that this is their 10th 'mistake' makes it pretty clear that they know what they're doing. Stuff that happens offsite often isn't something we police unless it gets really, really severe and we can prove without a shadow of a doubt that the person is the user we believe they are on Subeta.

I haven't taken the time to read every single post in this thread but I agree that blocking needs to be updated (and see that there is plans for that! awesome!)
I am hoping that we'll also be able to mute users and that muting will not notify them like blocking does. Sometimes I don't feel like a user deserves to be blocked, but I may just need to protect myself mentally for a little bit because their posts aren't for me. shrug
And lastly my final note is; I believe there needs to be a way to mute staff members as well, so that you only see their posts when they're making staff posts. I understand not being able to block staff members, that 100% is fine... but if a staff member makes posts or comments in their non-staff related time that make another user uncomfortable / upset... it sure would be nice to be able to mute that. There WAS a time that you were able to block certain staff members before, and this was removed with zero warning in the past and caused me a great deal of stress. I'm in a better place now, but I'd still rather not have to see certain kinds of content, regardless of who is posting it. TY.
