I think farm would be a cute name if they're gonna be doing farm stuff. Like combining it with gardens, etc. Farmer pets would get strong from doing farm stuff too so that would tie in with the training! But visually you'd want to make it clear that the pets are the farmers, and not the "farmed" lol.
I also like the idea of calling it a den like other people suggested. It seems cozy and relaxed.
Other names I think would fit with the features suggested so far: Boarding School - Pets would learn, do sports (train!) Pet Retreat/Resort - Pets would be pampered, can hit the gym Sleep-Away Camp - Pets can do activities, make crafts, have fun
-As someone who agonizes over the 100+ pets in their dropdown menu options on a daily basis... yes please! As long as we can still view and edit their profiles, so that people can "finish" a pet and then move it to their farm for, uh, safekeeping. Full support for this idea. Thank you, Keith! :-D
(I'm glad that it's not actually a pet limit, because I'm one of those weirdos who enjoys having 463728234832 different pets (and doing nothing with them lmao))

I would love to see some kind of "farm" implemented on the site! I think below is an excellent idea as well!
SPOILER (click to toggle)

Some other names (it&;ll include some ideas already suggested, sorry) - home, sanctuary, inn, kennel, field, meadow, pastures, island, ranch (this may seem synonymous with farm but there&;s a difference as ranches are meant for solely animals rather than a whole farm), daycare (maybe too child-ish?), den, plaza, house

Another neat idea is to like let the "farm" be set in spots around Subeta, like you can pick where your pets are based (it&;s mostly just for fun but maybe later it can have special features added based on where your "farm" is) and it gets a unique name depending on the area.
Some ideas:
Ziara - spaceship
Peka - meadow / clearing
Galaxan Wastelands - crater
Coda Caves - tunnel
Riverside or Veta - garden / cottage / field
Delphi or Omen Islands - beach house / boat
Shadowglen - shack (lol)
Sacred Lands - sanctuary / temple

And more. My brain juice low.
Actually, this is kind of a cute idea too. Maybe the NPC owns a huge farm or ranch and is like "I might have gotten carried away with this place so if you have any pets who aren't busy, I'd love some help!" I feel it reduces the potential negative connotation to the word and presents a context where your pets are contributing to a good thing.
Perhaps the more pets that help, the higher chance you get for special items - maybe the farmer/rancher NPC gives them permission to take things they find out in the fields/forest/etc home? So you can get all kinds of things from around the area. There could be a junkyard, a pond/lake, the forest, etc. Users wouldn't be able to choose the area though. Maybe the places have a very small chance to give special items (stat or color potions, collection items, elixirs, csc/sp, minions, etc) through your pet finding something unusual? Like a witch's hut in the forest, something washed up on shore at the lake, someone dumped a weird box at the junkyard, a strange animal(/minion) appeared and followed your pet home, so on so forth.
It would need minimal art as long as you don't make all new stuff for it aside from the NPC + area art (that you technically don't need but would be nice), so it'd mostly be coding... I think giving this concept of a farm/den more of a use aside from pet storage may also encourage users to buy more pet slots, since it means higher chances at gaining things. Just a thought.
would need to be banned from the feature though because she holds too much power. smh... 124... making me jealous...
As someone with 39 pets (and always open to more, but gains the pet slots slowly over time), I'd definitely use this! I already try to reduce my pet lists by having everyone except my Gourmand pet in the resort, so he's the only one that shows up when I'm trying to feed new food to him. He's also my main battler so I think he's the only one with a set of "default" weapons, so I can quickly find him in the battle dropdowns.
As for the other features (training, jobs, TCs, etc), I have preferences but am generally open to whatever solution is easiest for you to implement. I also wouldn't mind it getting a first pass (the ability to move a pet in/out of the inactive area to speed up the site), with other things coming a little later.
My only immediate preference is that moving pets in/out of the den should be as simple and as fast as possible. If I'm moving pets around, I'm likely trying to do something (pull someone out so I can sort out their TC, then put them back, etc.)
Functionality Preferences
Jobs - I would like to earn income passively. No preference between manually collecting every day via a single button / link on the den page, or having income stack up in a bank on the den page and periodically collecting it manually, or having income go directly to my sP vault. Days spent working from within the den also 100% needs to be accounted for in the stats for promotion - though I assume this is just recalculated from the job start date?
Training - I would be okay if you could only train pets who are not in the den. I think that makes logical sense. However, because of the length of time training takes, I 100% see why people would still like to earn stats/EXP passively. I think the EXP option is better because it allows you to allocate those stats later. Personally I do train most of my pets but I also get overwhelmed by the volume and just don't bother to put them back into training regularly (it's an all-or-nothing habit for me).
User Pages - I would be okay with pets on the user pages being reduced to only show your current party, and your den becoming a clickable link on your user page so other people can still view your den pets. This could be a really easy way for folks to find spotlight-ready pets! Lots of people already remove the pet widget entirely and replace it with their own links / thumbnails instead.
Happiness / Hunger - I'd prefer if pets in the den are fed and happy! You can use the bathhouse feature to reset a pet's hunger, so I think that's reasonable to use if you want to feed new things to a full pet?
The Den - I really don't mind what name is used for this as long as it doesn't have like negative connotations (like farm does XD). I would prefer if it didn't imply the pets are pets (i.e. kennel) because many of mine are OCs. I like the idea of it having a default name that we can change, like shops / galleries! Then everyone can have their preference. And the buttons to move pets around could just be [Move to ... ] [Move from ... ]
For users who have different training / feeding / income preferences to me, I'd suggest some sort of toggle system on the den page for each pet.
I'm not sure how you envision the den page to look, but personally I imagine it laid out the same way as the current Pets page, with little squares for each pet and two pets per row, with whatever actions still accessible from a dropdown or something similar. Based on that, this suggestion is to add a bunch of squares underneath each pet with different icons and hover / alt text to indicate what they're for (weights for training, a money bag for income, a bowl or cutlery for food, etc) and you can click each one to set them on (highlighted?) or off (greyed out). If they're on, you collect the income passively / gain exp passively / are always fed, etc, and if they're off, you don't.
You can set these for each pet and your settings are remembered between sessions, so you don't have to keep clicking them, you just have to set them up once and can quickly change them if you decide to do something different with a pet.
Yes please!
I would love to only have 1-3 pets "active" and all my rest in "hibernation."
I think this is a great idea. I only have 28 pets currently, but it would be easier to only focus on a few at a time if some could go to the farm. I can imagine it being even better for people with 100+ pets!
i hated the pets being split into pages thing so i still load all 115 of my pets on one page, i dont usually care how long it takes to load just as long as i see all of them. but im also the kind of person who will give their characters family and friends then give their family and friends family and friends. 100 mains will do it. when we're finally able to have 500 pets then we'll talk
Please not the word "farm" but otherwise I like the idea! Call it a galaxy, world, hub, main, primary, secondary, anything else lol or let them be customizable like shop names ^.^
I love having a million pets and I'm cool with only seeing a set amount. Especially if it makes things smoother
86 pets over here. The title of this topic gave me a total heart attack but after reading it, I really do love this idea. I love all my pets of course, but I really only ever do stuff with a few of them at a time. If I wanted to do stuff that required them to be "active", it would take 10 seconds to grab them from the "farm". Easy.
As long as they're all still viewable on my profile and stuff, this sounds like a great idea. I think not only would it help the site, but also organization too! I'm really weird about my pet order and try to keep "related" pets near each other (I have a lot of Fan Pets), so this would reduce a lot of my stress if I could temporarily dump the ones I'm not doing anything with!
I will say I don't really get the resistance to calling it a "farm" but would probably prefer a more Subeta-y and unique sounding word. Maybe it's because I have horses irl and they... live on a farm, and there's nothing weird about it to me? It's a horse farm, full of horses? (also my parents never lied to me about what happened to my pets when they died? omg I can't imagine that honestly)
I’d be happy to take it a step further and have a “retire pet” feature, even. Scrub the pet down to just profile, minion, things that openly display to the public/add flavor and expunge the rest of the data. If my pet is just to show a character, I don’t really need books read data etc. like you can’t interact with and feed them etc it’s just a shiny thing on your profile at that point that hopefully takes up less data. Maybe if you don’t log in for say, 2-3 years you get an email warning that your pets will be retired if you don’t come back in X amount of time with a blurb explaining what that means.
I'm late to the party but wanted to add support for this idea, because it seems like a great compromise and a way to customize the site more for each player!
Some folks may want to keep only 10 pets "active" and let everyone else stay "home" where as some folks may prefer to keep their full limit (I like the idea of 100 because that's more pets than most people have so it doesn't force most people to pick and choose) "with them". It benefits everyone without limiting / decreasing total amount of pets and it realistically doesn't impact the majority of the community (I think?).
This honestly could help a lot as an organization tool for goals! For example, working on getting pets to a certain job level, training, spotlight, or other goals - having only those pets "active" and "in sight" as you go could be great for how some brains work!
I also love the idea of picking our home location and design (I'm thinking like how we pick our Lumi tree) because it's just another fun way to customize the site more for each person and make the world feel immersive.
edit Aw dang, I just realized this was past the 6m so I necro'd it. I'm sorry!
I have several pets I love and don't want to lose, but I also don't vibe with them like I used to. I would absolutely LOVE to have somewhere I can lovingly look at them and reminisce about them, no matter how many or how few pets I have. (Like how Koraki was the first pet I ever had that I used a potion on and how much I grinded to be able to afford it.) But I'd still have those pet slots available for pets I want to more actively interact with.
My name is Kira/Erik. I'm Nonbinary, and my pronouns are They/Ze. [flower=MusicEmo]
A bit late to the party and lot of people already expressed what I was going to say, Overall I think is a very reasonable idea to implements to combine having so much pets + loading all that.
And I want to add, not only let's us set the farm theme (farm, meadows, island, beach, resort, inn, luxury hotel, spa, mountain house, barn, cottage, convention, whatever...) but let's users to have more than one farm? Not me with my... 12 pets, but for people with +100 pets, they probably have common spots or common world or lore between them, let's say, Toy themed, Space Themed, Magic themed, etc. and may want to work into the space themed pets at the sametime, so... Those user will activate the Space Themed farm and send all their active pets to, I dunno, the Toy Themed farm.
I think this idea is great, especially if it helps site performance. I feel like I have 15 pets that are more my active pets and 15 that are passive/works in progress/whatever, so I would also be totally cool with a smaller number than 100, too. 100 is very generous.
