I've been reading And Finally by Henry Marsh. It's a memoir about a retired brain surgeon who gets diagnosed with cancer and has to come to terms with going from the "doctor" side of diagnosis and treatment to the patient side. It's super interesting!

Labyrinth of Evil was quite interesting! It's also well written, I actually preferred it to the one written by Salvatore; surprising, since Salvatore is one of my all time favorite authors.

Started Seasonal Fears by Seanan McGuire last night. It's set in the same world as Middlegame, and is technically a sequel, but it's an entirely new cast of characters so far with only vague mentions of the prior book's protagonists and antagonist.

I didn't know Middlegame had a sequel, and it turns out it's on Kindle Unlimited too, so that's excellent. Just downloaded it.

I'm currently reading Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff.

I must have looked at Seasonal Fears over a dozen times at the library and passed it over for something else. It wasn't until I was looking at a Wikipedia page on McGuire (to see if I had missed any of the Wayward Children books) that I learned it went with Middlegame. I'd have grabbed it MUCH sooner had I known. I'm glad I could share the news with another Middlegame enjoyer, though!

Seasonal Fears was SO good! I'm really glad I decided to pick it up. The characters were great, the plot was smooth, and the ending was practically perfect.

Now I'm reading Jedi Search by Kevin J. Anderson. It's the first book in the Jedi Academy trilogy. I always ask my beau for suggestions when I go to pick up new Star Wars books, and since one of the suggestions was "anything with Mara Jade," this one fits the bill. Plus I know the Solo twins, Jacen and Jaina, are involved in these books, and they're good characters.

Jedi Search was quite interesting, and gave me a lot of background lore around the original and prequel trilogies. It's nice to be able to say "I KNOW/UNDERSTAND THAT THING!" when we're watching one of the new series on Disney+, like Ahsoka. It's also REALLY nice to be able to seriously theorize about stuff in the Star Wars universe with my beau. My efforts to learn are paying off. c': It turned out Mara Jade wasn't in the book, though; the woman featured in the cover art was Admiral Daala; quite possibly the only female admiral in the entire history of the Empire. So, not what I expected, but a good character all the same!

Just picked up Dark Apprentice by Kevin J. Anderson, the sequel to the above book, today. Really looking forward to this book, hopefully it won't disappoint. Though, once I finish it, I have to try to track down the last of the Jedi Academy trilogy, as I couldn't find it at the library today, even after poring over every Star Wars book I could find on the YA shelves. =w=; The various missing Star Wars novels at the library may drive me to madness.

the tale of despereaux! i read it as a kid and wanted to revisit it. it's definitely a kid's book, the chapters are really short and it's not very dense, but i still like the story. i'm about half way through right now. there's this part that always stuck with me for some reason:

“There are those hearts, reader, that never mend again once they are broken. Or if they do mend, they heal themselves in a crooked and lopsided way, as if sewn together by a careless craftsman.”

it's been fun to revisit, and i'm sorta realizing how many books i liked as a kid had to do with rodents :P rats of nihm is another i want to revisit some time

i've also been reading fables, which is a comic book series, but i really like it. the wolf among us is based on it, however it's kinda loose and mostly based around the first few volumes. i think they're both good, though

I've been really bad for starting books but losing interest lately, so I am in the middle of five different books: The Genesis Quest: The Geniuses and Eccentrics on a Journey to Uncover the Origin of Life on Earth by Michael Marshall The Edge of Lost by Kristina McMorris (so boring) The Stolen Throne (Dragon Age ) by David Gaider Bloodlist by P.N. Elrod The T Guide: Our Trans Experiences and a Celebration of Gender Expression―Man, Woman, Nonbinary, and Beyond by Gigi Gorgeous and Kade Gottlieb (Gottmik).

I also really need to start reading The Care We Dream Of: Liberatory & Transformative Justice Approaches to LGBTQ+ Health ed. Zena Sharman for my bookclub on the 25th.

I've been alternating between the Green Creek series by T.J Klune (almost finished wolfsong and I LOVE IT) and the Tarot Sequence by K.D Edwards (Just started today so no real comment on it yet)

I've also re-started the Anita Blake series because I remember being a fan of it but then I remember stopping but i don't remember why.

Oh, I love Tarot Sequence! I thought Misfit Caravan (book 4) was supposed to release this year, but no word on it yet sadly. If you end up liking the books, make sure you check out the author's website, he has a few Tarot Sequence short stories available for free to download.

My current read is Silver Under Nightfall by Rin Chupeco. Still haven't gotten to Seasonal Fears yet, oops. It might get pushed back longer than I wanted because I don't know if I can fit it into my r/fantasy bingo board with the squares I have left.
