Always, I sometimes have to remind other people that I am.
Yep, all the time! :D When I was younger I used to sort of ...idk put on little plays for myself with my OCs and that was how I wrote stories, but I can't do that anymore since I live with other people haha. So these days it's more of me yelling at inanimate objects (especially at work) or berating myself for being so scatterbrained. XD
Who is your favorite comedian? My favourite comedian is definitely John Mulaney!
Do you talk to yourself? Sometimes when I feel uncomfortable/awkward which tends to make thing more awkward :P

That is so cool (minus the malaria)! My mum's family had a pet orangutan for a while back in her old country (East Timor) before the civil war. Her sister married rich and her husband was in the timber trade in Indonesia. Some people who couldn't afford to pay would gift him bizarre things... and one of the things was an orangutan which he passed onto my grandfather. Isn't that absolutely insane?! Orangutans aren't native to East Timor, only Sumatra in Indonesia! Living where I am today, something like that happening would be completely unfathomable... and you know, illegal. Really really really illegal and unethical.
And yeah, berries are suuuper expensive when store bought which is why sweet fruit pies aren't as big where I am. The only way I couldn't imagine an affordable berry pie is if the berries were frozen but I guess once it is cooked it wouldn't make too much of a difference :/ I dunno though because I've never actually had a raspberry/blueberry/blackberry pie before. Are they nice?
Hahahaa, I ate flies but not wax! I don't think I've ever encountered wax candy before. Looking it up, it says its made out of "flavored food-grade paraffin wax". I can't even imagine how they would have come up with that and convinced others to eat it. Wouldn't it leave your teeth feeling weird??
Today's question: What's your go-to sauce/condiment?
My answer
I really like a nice spicy salsa; it's good on pretty much everything.

Oh wow, a pet orangutan! Was it trained and fully tame? Did it make a good pet? My mom actually had a pet monkey for a little while when she was a kid and she said it was a terrible experience. It climbed the curtains and threw stuff and was just generally rude and messy. I'm sure that wouldn't be legal here now either, for good reason (I'm really surprised it was then). I guess that would have been the 60s though, and I hear they were pretty wild lol
I really don't understand why fresh berries are so expensive, knowing how easy they are to grow (blackberries are a noxious weed where I live for crying out loud, they grow EVERYWHERE and they're a total nuisance, and yet blackberries are just as expensive as any other berry...I realize they are probably a special variety grown on a farm but still). I guess it must have to do with them being difficult to transport or having a poor shelf life because frozen berries aren't all that expensive. You can get giant bags of frozen blueberries for a couple bucks but one of those tiny little plastic trays of fresh ones is like $5. Oh yeah, I think raspberry and blackberry pies are fantastic! I'm not so keen on cooked blueberries, they get kind of a weird flavor imo. Love 'em fresh (or frozen) though. I expect frozen fruit would work fine for pie.
I don't know if it was ever intended that anyone would actually eat the wax. I didn't actually swallow it (at least that I can recall), just chewed on it. I guess it's the same idea as gum. Yeah, it could leave a waxy film on your teeth but I didn't really mind it. Maybe that's why I've only ever had one cavity, because I sealed my teeth in wax at a young age haha. Wax candy like is not very popular, you only really see it around Halloween and even then it's not very common. I think you can find the wax soda bottles year-round but they're not especially popular either.
What's your go-to sauce/condiment? Hmmm depends on the thing, but the general rule is that if it is savory with pastry or some form of potato, I would go with tomato sauce.
Hahaha, that's so weird that your mum also had a pet monkey! Maybe its just something about that period that made these creatures more common for pets?? Do you know what sort of monkey it was and if was big or small?
Because they raised lots of animals back then, they didn't find the behaviour of the orangutan too out of place. It would have been a young orangutan so it would be relatively tame. I would say it was trained because it could understand them when they spoke to it in Indonesian but I am not entirely sure. It was very naughty and cheeky though according to mum but they really loved him. He was closest to my grandpa who would pick him up like a little baby. In fact, he would often be quite jealous when grandpa would pick up my cousin who was an infant at that time, and the orangutan would throw a little fit on the ground like a child until grandpa appeased him by holding his hand also. Mum also has lots of stories of the orangutan stealing their food that her step-mum made to sell and then climbing up on the roof when her step-mum would try and smack it with the broom. It was otherwise well-behaved enough that my uncle could dress it up in a little outfit and drive it around the island on a motorbike on some weekends.
:( I am soooo envious of how easily berries seem to grow easily where you are. Where I am the weather is quite unpredictable and temperatures are scorching in summer so I think that's why it isn't as rampant here. The transport and storing issues would make sense. I guess you can't pick berries too early and just leave them to ripen like bananas. I recall something about berries needing to be gently handpicked for it be good enough to be sold fresh in stores. Is berry pie better than apple pie? That's the only other fruit pie I think I've tried.
Thanks for clarifying the wax thing :P I legit thought people would actually eat it. It being gum-like actually makes more sense. There are so many weird Halloween/year round candies that we don't really have here. Have you ever tried candy corn and if so, could you describe what it tastes like?
Oh, and BTW if you do get tired of answering these you can just stop - no polite explanation needed and I won't be offended at all. I like asking questions and hearing about the lives and experiences of others but also recognise that not everyone enjoys that :)
Frank's Red Hot Sauce, or Mayonnaise.
It really depends on what I'm eating. Most "fast food" type chicken nuggets/strips/tenders get sweet and sour if available, honey mustard if not. For a less fastfoody type of chicken strips or tenders I get honey mustard. Certain restaurants have really delicious honey mustard and some of them have gross honey mustard, if I know I won't like their honey mustard I'll get barbecue or ranch. Burgers and fries get ketchup and nothing else (fries only if they can't stand on their own), though I'll occasionally put 1000 Island dressing on my burgers if it's around. Hot dogs get ketchup, sometimes mustard if I'm in a mustard mood.
Oh and welcome back !
Frank's Red Hot Sauce. I put that shit on everything lol That or Tabasco. :)

What's your go-to sauce/condiment?
Whatever hot sauce is within reach. Normally one by Voodoo Chili Sauces
Mine would probably be ranch dressing!
Today's question: If you could always shop for free at one brick-and-mortar store, which one would you choose?
My answer
I really, really despise Walmart, but it's one of the most practical answers I can come up with for this one. They have a huge assortment of inventory so I would have an unlimited supply of almost anything I could need, they have tons of locations so it would always be convenient, they're well-established so I don't need to worry much about this arrangement coming to an end because they went out of business and at least I could feel like I was sticking it to them by getting their stuff for free. haha

I really have no idea but I got the impression it was a fairly small monkey, carry-it-around-like-a-baby size. I know she looked back fondly on the idea of having a pet monkey but the reality of it was not what her parents had bargained for lol. So I know they got rid of it but I don't know how. I hope the little guy ended up somewhere safe.
Ok I just did a bit of googling and this turned up; apparently you could order squirrel monkeys from ads in the back of magazines in the 60s. So I bet it was a squirrel monkey from such a source then. Sounds more common than I had imagined. Poor things were getting shipped to 10-year-olds all over the country through the mail. 😬
Those are cute stories and it sounds like that orangutan had a pretty nice life with your family, all things considered!
Be careful what you wish for lol, I HATE blackberry bushes. They're devilishly thorny and they're almost impossible to eradicate once they get started...if you try to dig them out of your yard but leave a single small chunk of root behind, it'll regrow. They grow a perceptible amount every day (I want to say several inches, seems like it anyway) so trying to cut them back is a futile endeavor, they can grow over 10 feet tall, and they send out spiky, woody, serpentine tendrils to climb and spread, putting down new roots as they go. Left unchecked, they will completely devour an entire yard, a shed, a car, even a whole house. I really hate them. X'D But the berries are tasty and make for good free food since you can go pick buckets of them from any old abandoned lot. Raspberries are not nearly so obnoxious but the flipside is it takes longer to cultivate them.
Berry pie vs apple pie? Well, that's a subjective question. I think apple pie is actually my favorite pie (so basic, I know) but in order to not have to make a difficult decision, I might just combine them. Apple-blackberry pie sounds pretty good to me and I could make one from stuff in my own yard (if I was desperate enough to use the crappy, buggy apples that grow there haha). My son picked berries from our yard and made a pie with them a couple years ago but he doesn't seem to care for apple pie. Weirdo.
Oh yeah, candy corn is ubiquitous around Halloween. I get the impression a lot of people don't really love it though, even though it's everywhere because it's tradition or whatever. I would say it tastes like sugar. lol I think it's supposed to be honey-flavored, so maybe that. Or maybe a hint of vanilla? I don't know, it pretty much just tastes sweet. The flavor is kind of boring but I love the texture because...well, it's very waxlike. XD
I don't mind answering your questions at all! I enjoy the interesting conversations they lead to. This is a question-asking thread; ask away! :D
If you could always shop for free at one brick-and-mortar store, which one would you choose? Organic and fair trade shop. Doesn't even have to be a specific one but everything in there is always sooooo expensive TT_TT which is why I can only rarely go there... ( Lovely question BTW)
What's your go-to sauce/condiment? Oh my god! Love that question! Definitely hot sauce! Indonesian hot sauce is sooooo good! But for me, sriracha is usually a safe bet. I always carry hot sauce with me. I'm not even kidding, there is always a sriracha extra spicy bottle (with the red cap) in my backpack. It used to be mayonnaise but I'm not so fond of vegan mayonnaise so now I think I prefer remoulade and of course soy sauce or saté sauce. I used to looooove sauce hollandaise as well. Yeah I think these are my favourites.
Do you talk to yourself? Hmm... I guess not really unless I have to practice a presentation. Oh although yesterday, I had to do a voice over for a video and I failed (not hyperbolicly) 1000 times. At some point I was so frustrated that I started swearing at the video/me and tbh it felt really good. I love swearing in English, especially with a really poor British accent. 😂
Who is your favourite comedian? Hmmm.... I don't think I have one in particular. I really love the Saturday Night Live cast and Andy Sandberg is really funny but I guess I don't know enough comedians to pick a favourite this time :)
Thank you for the warm welcome back, you guys <3 <3 <3

If you could always shop for free at one brick-and-mortar store, which one would you choose? Hands down Books-a-Milion. BAM is where all of my meager disposable income goes from books, comics, records to my ever-expanding POP collection. If I could walk in and never have to pay again it would be heaven.
If you could always shop for free at one brick-and-mortar store, which one would you choose?
Maybe Winners/Homesense because they get so many cool things in there. ;; I could get all the clothes, cosmetics, furniture, decor, coffee, etc. I could ever want and I'd just need to get practical food and other things at Walmart or whatever.
Otherwise I'd say some high end clothing store cause I want nice clothes and they're so expensiiiiive ;;
If you could always shop for free at one brick-and-mortar store, which one would you choose? Hmmm... if I am being honest to myself, probably ALDI. Nice combo of affordable groceries and weekly special items which would cover other household goods like washing machines/clothes/other random things throughout the year.

That ad is insane! I can't believe that people could just order a monkey via post! I am glad we have stricter regulations on wildlife trade now and owning a monkey is no longer a thing. I also hope he ended up somewhere nice.
I had no idea that blackberry bushes were spiky... makes me a little less envious :P Do you have to wear gloves when picking blackberries then? And is it possible to grow in a pot to contain it? Also, I hear that blackberries also get maggots... does that really happen?
Oooh, you should totally try and make an apple berry pie! It will either please both you and your son, or disappoint both parties. My guess it that the apple chunks would cook more slowly than the berries, so the apples would still be crunchy. Perhaps pre-cooking the apples would be necessary.
Sorta sounds like candy corn occupies a similar place as mince pies... traditional but not widely beloved.
xe/they/she
If I had to pick, it's be Savers. When it comes to treasure hunting I'd love to be able to take my pick and not have to choose from lack of money.
Hiya ! I've done well in my course, I'm fairly certain I passed. So far my grades are solid "A"s. I'd apply my knowledge and disassemble my engine, but weather isn't permitting. How droll of me to not have welcomed your return, its nice to see you again.
