I'm so sorry for the direct ping, but I'm not sure who else to ping for an answer - thank you for being our temporary liaison. :)
I know that staff is completely swamped with all the recent/impending work on the site, and I was prepared to wait for the promised CW-related stuff because, well, the cw community is only part of the site that needs attending to (though I hoped that price changes, at least, would be coming soon.) Now that we know has left the team, I understand that everyone is stretched even more thinly, and I really sympathize with that!
However, I've been trying to directly rally support for the cw market so that it doesn't completely fizzle and die while we wait for the upcoming rule, submission, and price changes. Yesterday it was brought to my attention that one reason that users maybe hesitant to submit or buy new CWs is the possibility that when the price changes DO occur, anything submitted before then will be locked at the price it was submitted as, rather than dropping to the new price. This is what happened when prices were adjusted several years ago, apparently.
My question is, are there plans in place to lower the prices of EXISTING CWs when the price changes happen? Because if not, I can't in good conscience ask my fellow CW releasers to continue submitting and releasing and spending their own money/CSC to support the site this way, if it means any spare copies they have will suddenly be effectively unsellable when the change is made.
I realize that dropping the price of existing CWs may be challenging due to coding issues, or the potential re-categorization of submissions (ie. long and short wigs VS just wigs), but I'm sweatin' a bit at the thought of tens of thousands of CWs sitting in CW shops collecting dust for all eternity LOL.
Just my two cents here. The only reason I'm submitting stuff atm is because some artists put time lines on how long I have before they will no longer fix items that get rejected. Which I don't blame them because it's not fair to ask them to hold files indefinitely.
Oh yeah, definitely a lot of suggestions that would be good to implement as far as price adjustments for sizing go for sure. It's really rubbed me the wrong way that things like tiny tiny horns are considered body mods and therefore max price =/ Same issue when people made bangs/detatched ponytails (before subeta also started doing this) and they were the same price as a full wig :(
I'm always happy to try to help if I can!
Nail on the head there. I'm mostly the one adding the newly approved CWs over on SubetaLodge and I can tell you there were only 15 approvals last round and of them almost all were by the same person, with a total of only 5-6 different submitters I believe. And it's been declining ever since they announced that they'd be changing both Subscriptions and the submission costs for CWs. It was heavily implied that once the new subscriptions were launched, the next step would be to "drastically reduce" the cost of submissions. I understand that they're trying to get new rules/categories in place also, but there needs to be a balance since that seems to be taking awhile. I wish they'd launched with whatever pricing scheme they had in place already and just noted that there would be forthcoming adjustments to the item rules as well and that item category prices may be adjusted slightly in the future to reflect that or something. I want to submit my stuff, I really do, but I will feel like an awful person if my already small pool of customers has to pay more for something than they would've if I'd waited another week or two. At this point even a timeline so we could make decisions on what we want to do would help.
❤️ I know that feeling, I'm lucky that the files I have now are from Feral who has extended her timelines because of this change (she's also on hold for any new design releases/recolors/etc for the same reason).
- I consider myself fortunate because my sister has been working this entire time and is able to help me pay the submission costs. But once I've gotten most my files onsite, I'll probably stop until things get sorted.
I'm glad she's able to help you out ❤️ Also I love your HA!
Agreed, I would be happy with piecemeal changes instead of trying to buy the whole cow at once, so to speak, with prices/rules/etc all be updated at once. Sometimes the massive, sudden updates on the site feel too massive and sudden, anyway - to me at least. I vote for incremental changes so that the site can be more stable, and people can adjust slowly to new things.
FYI, I don't think you're holding on to anything of mine except a few recolors, but I just wanted to let you know that several people have asked me to extend the time requirement for release and I completely understand. I think most artists would be lenient in this way, given the circumstances...I honestly only keep that rule because I've had a few people hang on to a commission for literal years before submitting, and it's stressful dealing with old files.
- Aw thanks! And thank you for always keeping on top of the CW issues. :D Let's hope they follow through with all this.
- Yep. Some of the ones I have from you are for the holidays because I have a feeling that we are all gonna need cheering up around that time :P
Yeah. I'd be really excited if all the changes were ready to go, but I'm pretty realistic about how things are going to take time. The stickler for me was really on the price points as that was an announced situation and I wish they either wouldn't have said anything about it yet or would work on that even as a temporary adjustment for now, just so we have some direction.
I'm happy to always to try to make sure folks see things they might not otherwise have seen that definitely affect their experiences here :)
thanks for the ping! I was in two minds of whether to type up a response as I'm always nervous when posting but here goes.
I appreciate all the hard work done this year, it's been a crazy year with multiple catastrophes world wide, yet so many still have so much heart for this site and this is really cute and heartwarming!
Pricing reallllyyy needs to be addressed big time... like.. now. Even if its just category adjustments for now we need something Dl/. It has a major knock on effect on how much people will spend on the site outside of subscriptions. Areas that are tied up in site currency are all affected. It feels like the worth of CSC is going to drop a lot with the way its been generously thrown out with the subs?. Idk, but theres a lot to think about it's a much bigger discussion that just CW's. (This doesnt count for pricing categories though theres no excuse behind those XD, I'm just appreciating the complexity behind an overall price drop).
this is under spoiler as its quite ranty I'm sorry
Communication on this site is really odd. On the one hand, the community talks a lot. Staff talk a lot... but when it comes to the information coming together it's almost like its lost in translation.
I wouldnt mind if it were new issues but its not, it's nothing thats not been spoken about in detail before.
Subscriptions have been talked about and seemed to have gone through smoothly but whenever it's anything to do with CWs its like it has to go through some kind of warped <1% super mario maker 2 level before its even considered. And even when its finally considered/ deemed a yay or nay, theres no timeline, will it happen today or next year or the year after?
Even something as huge and (for a few) deal breaking like pet nicknames has gone through. The only thing we have, is a council to aid discussion, something that we've been doing for years. And though its a great thing for the present and future. A lot of peoples concerns are stuck with past problems.
Subscriptions are a really nice start to the revival of this site, I saw how many were excited when they were revealed, how cheap they seemed and good value particularly for custom clothing collectors. They even helped reignite interest in user shops! However if you cant find some kind of improvement to the custom clothing area how long do you think those subscribers will be happy for? If you were unsure of when the CW pricing would be decided upon then it should never have been promised. It seemed to many like it was one of the priorities and now people are in a wierd limbo of "are we supposed to wait a week orr?"
And considering many of the CW rule changes people have been suggesting are pretty basic I dont understand why some of those changes werent pushed through ages ago. Even pre-pandemic. Because this discussion has been going on far longer than this year. It doesnt have to be a massive "HERE ARE THE CW RULES NOW AND FOREVER THANK YOU" you can just push the ones that dont have a knock on effect directly to other things such as pricing, and save the more complex ones until.. well you fix the problems related to them. Even tiny changes make for a lot.
We're in a world where it feels like we can almost create anything but it feels like we're constantly hindered one way or another.
yeah, I already opted not to slot on items like that bc of their prices, I don't agree with it, so I don't buy it. I know it's not releaser's fault, but oh well, I live in a country where CSC is an extreme luxury and way too expensive
Keith has stated that he wants to make dts a much more viable option (to me it sounded like he'd prefer that kind of submission over slotting, but this is just my interpretation) by lowering the cost of it and possibly make it so that you get an extra copy of the item (or more than that) so that you don't have to add the cost of an artist copy to the cost of using the dts system.
The council isn't fully formed though so I'm pretty sure that no discussions have even been had yet about any changes at all at this time. Would be weird to start discussing stuff before all the members have been picked. At least it seems weird to me, but maybe my mind works differently on account of being used to how things work here in Sweden XD
Well that's a shame because direct to shop is the absolute worst way to submit in my opinion as it costs the person who submits the CW a lot more CSC. It also forces the person who submits the CW to have CSC on hand unlike the batch system, which can be completely covered by other users who bought the slots. Not everyone has tons of CSC on hand to just throw at submission after submission. Especially not after they've just paid an artist for the art.
Idk seems harmful to a whole segment of the subeta population who have difficulty affording cws.
I was trying to say that he wants to lower what it costs to submit with dts so that it's more appealing for people to use. I'm well aware of the fact that it's very expensive to use that system now. I've been forced to use it when no one has slotted on some stuff I've been releasing. So I'm well aware that I've had to pay like 2.1k total for the automatic copy you get plus the artist copy when using the dts system the way it works right now. I'm saying that Keith wants to make it a much more viable option.
But, I'm gonna stick to just reading this topic in the future as I always seem to be misunderstood when I try to help out on topics like this... Which is one of the reasons why I will never apply for the council. I would just make people upset because they wouldn't understand what I meant -_-
Oh, don't worry I understood you. I just disagree with that concept. I don't see how he can make direct to shop viable since he can't make it cost the submitter 0 csc like it would if it was submitted with slots. Anything over 0 means it's costing the submitter that much more. Even if keith halves the cost of direct to shop and gives us two copies for free something like a background would still be 800 csc out of pocket. And I currently don't possess 800 csc, which means I'd have to wait to submit something that would otherwise be submitted.
Does that kinda make sense?
For me it only costs me 0 if I'm the artist. Otherwise it costs me 200 if it's in the 2k pricing group and 400 if it's in the 2.5k pricing group. And that's assuming that I've managed to get a full 1st batch.
Anyway, this is the exact bit that I was referring to of what Keith has said: "3. Pricing: If we make it easier to submit new items, we also want to lower the prices. Find a way to remove the slotting process overall and move all CW purchases to the shops (giving the submitter multiple copies, and reducing the price to shop are options) to streamline finding CWs to wear and buy."
Ah only if you take both copies at the same time. I've been away a long time, but I assume items still fill multiple batches? I can only speak to my past experiences from 2+ years ago I never really had too many issues filling batches.
Where did you find that quote?
I mean I do understand what keith wants and what he's intending by that change, but it's still going to potentially cost the submitter more money out of pocket even if he does lower the cost. I think the cw shops are wonderful I thought that when I was there suggesting them to keith, but removing batches completely in my opinion is a mistake.
Considering that my releases usually only barely fill the 1st batch, and that it's extremely rare for me to have 2 batches fill through slotting, I don't separate myself and the artist. I put us both in the same batch because I will never be able to guarantee that 2 batches will be filled on my slotting thread. I always sell more copies once I move an item to my shop than I ever do on my slotting thread which is why I, personally, have no problem with what Keith wants to do with the dts system.
And the quote is from the thread where Keith brought up, and discussed, the council: HERE (the part I quoted is in the first post)
I ma reposting my idea here.
I don't know if this has been thought of, but maybe someone who makes it on the CW counsel can make this suggestion:
How about lowering the price of all future submitted and created (including recolors) CW's in all price ranges and making it really obvious which ones are the more expensive ones from the past and which ones are in the new price system by changing their special star at the top right from yellow to blue/cyan?
So in a year, I can purchase a wig with a blue star for 400 CSC (random number) and other people can still sell their yellow star wigs for 700 and not worry about losing a lot of revenue or the devaluing of their older items? IDK if this will solve the issues but I think it would be a good idea.
I'm not on the counsel and have no real voice, so if someone reads this who is on the counsel or thinks that they know someone on it, maybe they can pass ideas like this (and better ones than this that are out there) along?
Public Ping Group - Xanadu Galleria and RAE Collab
I really really extremely want:Thank you for posting your idea here, I hope someone with some power sees it.
Now that the council is a thing, I wish there were some way to submit ideas to it rather than relying on a small handful of users to come up with all the ideas. I still feel like if a council system is going to be used, it should be to review and discuss specific questions, rather than as the sole point of idea generation if that makes sense.
Something like 's old CW idea suggestion box would be ideal, so that users not on the council still feel like they can contribute and have some say. (The suggestion box thread was a google form that users could use to submit ideas related to CWs to Jessi, a former staff person in charge of all things CWs at the time. The thread appears to be deleted now.)
There are some massive concerns being posted here that should probably be addressed if staff is going to still be approving Custom Wearables from people who may or may not know changes are upcoming?
Since there is no queue staff remaining (other staff are managing it from the sounds of it) will apps be opening up looking for a new staff member for this?
Is there any news on upcoming price changes that have been talked about / mentioned for the last six months? How about an ETA? Many of us are holding off on submitting / getting the site more revenue while we wait. 15 or so approvals every few days is abysmal by the usual 50+ a day approvals we were seeing before. That's a massive drop in activity.
Are price changes only going to be for NEW submissions, or will price changes effect all previous items too? And if it will effect them, any idea on how that will be implemented?

I'm really going to be poking this nest for a while. You're going to need to kick me to the curb if you'd like me to stop caring. Six months is one hell of a long time frame to claim 'changes are coming' especially when they're changes that could effect everyone very dramatically. If you want people to spend here, you cannot continue to be silent on this while also approving anything that is currently in the queue and potentially taking advantage of people out of the know. That's really shady. lmao.
