I need some advice and honesty and please keep in mind I suffer from depression.

I viewed an apartment today. Very clean and it has wooden floors. It's a basement apartment and it does have two very tiny windows and the bedroom doesn't have any. Problem is... the unit is very small and I find it dark. I'll also have to sell a lot of my furniture.

I'm the kind of person who needs windows. I love windows. I love looking outside. I love the brightness.

The unit is affordable. Coin operated laundry too.

I don't know what to do

You could take it for a temporary change? Live there for a while and try and find another place that suits your needs? Anyway you could also rent a small storage locker and keep your extra things there until you find a slightly bigger place?

I thought about a storage locker, but they're very pricey and since they're electronics... I'd have to get a heated storage unit. I also thought about taking as a temporary unit.

How much of your furniture would you have to sell? Can you bring in more lighting features like lamps, etc?

How urgent is it that you move? Can you hold out for somewhere better? Would you be locked into a lease or can you do month to month while you look for somewhere better? I feel like a a cramped, largely windowless basement might exacerbate your depression, or at least make you feel trapped/claustrophobic.

I'd have to sell my washer and dryer, couch, end tables and my pull out bed couch (which came from my parents and my mom said I could sell it). I'd also have to sell the rocking chair and TV cabinet (I just use it for storage).

My mom will be taking back her dresser if I get the unit because the dresser belongs to my mom. There is an upright armoire in the bedroom and no closet.

I'll definitely have to get rid of more clothes and jackets because there's not a whole lot of storage.

Oh! I'll also have to get a smaller computer desk.

I feel that beggars can't be choosers. Rent here, in my city, is INSANE! I can't afford over $800 all inclusive. The building I really wanted to get into, is $850 plus water and I can't do that. I did apply for housing, but it can take years...

My apartment I've been living in for almost 10 years is full of mold and cigarette smoke that's always making me sick.

I can't afford anywhere else. I've been looking within my price range and they're all shit holes. I hate change. I like space and windows and brightness, but I'll do what I gotta do in the meantime for m health (you know all about this current apartment, right? I can't remember).

I had forgotten til that post, apologies. I've been ill with a lingering respiratory thing for nearly a month, my brain's still muddled from it.

In that case, dude, I don't know. It sounds like you're giving up a lot of things for something you're not completely sold with from where I sit.

It's all good. I hope you're feeling better.

That's where I'm sitting: I want to, I don't want to. But at the same time... it's better than I'm currently living in. My mom said money that I get from selling my items can be used to purchase a new, smaller sofa a small coffee table and the rest? I'll throw it on my debts. Then... I'll start job hunting. I can only do one thing at a time because I get easily stressed out.

I also have a killer fucking headache because I'm stressed. I've been looking since July! They're all shit holes x.x

I'm not coughing all night long or to the point of choking anymore so that's an improvement, lol.

Eek. I feel that on a very personal level (that's how I got sick, I worked so hard, I wore myself down to the point of illness and something just leaped out and got me.) My advice would be right now, honestly, sleep on it. If it looks good in the morning still, and once the headache's gone, I would deeply consider.

You can't stay in that place that has like mold and what all else??

This place has shared air. I get heavy second hand cigarette smoke (and my CPAP intakes the air, so I breath that in. I get multiple lung infections per year), my clothes and furniture smell like heavy cigarette smoke. The bathroom is rotting, the corners around the tub are soft and there's black mold behind the enclosure. I get mold on the walls and I've cleaned it with bleach, but it's coming back. The bug problems seemed to slow down because I have a ton of spiders living here :) I do NOT kill spiders. They have a purpose.

It also smells like sewer in here because the people next door don't clean. I can smell their place through their door. You have to hold your breath when they open their door.

The face I just made.

... Maybe just go and say "Screw it" and dive in the deep end and get some lamps?

Honestly... that's what I'm thinking. The cigarette smoke is getting worse. My nose sometimes burns because that's how bad it is. Cause... fuck it, right? It's my health. Also, don't forget I did apply for housing but that can take years before they get to you depending on where you are in the list.

My current apartment is 850sq ft and the one I looked at today was 600 sq ft

Oh man. Cramped basement apartment would definitely be better than mold and cigarette smoke. Especially if you already have breathing problems. Don't mess around with black mold. You can probably use lighting to help with the lack of windows, and maybe put up some artwork that you like or nature scenes to help with the fact that you can't see outside.

Furniture can be replaced. Your lungs can't!

It sounds like in the duration of this conversation, you've pretty much figured out what needs to be done.

Have to say everyone made the points I would...and I would agree to move to get out of what you have to deal with now, then get another job. But I think I would give up most things before I would my washer and dryer. Is there no way your mother or anyone else would be willing to store anything for you so you don't really have to lose so many things?

=<^.^>= Wishlist Come check out my shop! Always willing to haggle if the price is right.

Yes! I think I'll take it if the guy calls me. Last night after my shower, I could barely breathe. I'm still not 100% on it, but it's way better than what I have. Lighting can always be purchased, same with nature wall art

No. My mom has no storage because my dad filled every corner, nook and cranny with pack rat junk. Plus, my dad would not take my items (I know you don't know my history, but my dad is a dick). To be honest, my machines will be 10 years old and the dryer is starting to not function as well as it did xD

Storenvy and Etsy have a lot of selection for art. I wouldn't go Wayfair since they support Trump's concentration camps through their profits.

Your mom is right, anything you sell will help you buy new furniture that will fit your new place better. And furniture can always be replaced. Low lighting is sucky, but you can make your place your own! At least you do have some windows so its something. I'm not sure where you're at, but around me we have tons of lights on sale right now because they're for "summer". So like wicker lights and paper lantern lights are all cheap at stores right now since they aren't in season. We also put up a ton of those regular Christmas style light strings (in different colors) in my house and those add a ton of light and joy and are cheap and often on sale!

I lived in an apartment with black mold for only 2 years and it killed two of my pets. When my boyfriend and I moved out, we didn't even realize how badly it was affecting our health. The feeling of breathing well is worth it!! You will find a way with lighting and with furniture, and you will feel a lot better. I know change is scary and daunting, but sometimes it can be the very best thing for you. I wish you the best of luck and hope you can breathe better soon!
