I have no idea what you're talking about lol. I'm not crafty. I used to draw, but I can't anymore. I'm so rusty it's not even funny.
I didnt think about that, just cutting the lenght off at the bottom will make the shape of the shirt different! Sounds like its not as easy as I thought it would be. lol
Its quite tempting, even tho I know it will be a lot of work. :) I know I have to try to make some thigns from my HP book at least. Maybe I will go with something easier than a sweater for that one. We will see. lol Shame the HP hoodie was so big on you. One would think they let you choose the size.. as not everyone is gonna be a mens medium. ;)

admittedly it can be like talking in a foreign language! I've been sewing for 4 or 5 years (I think - I've lost count :P), and this year went back to trying my hand at calligraphy and drawing as well.
nods you have to get the bust, waist and hip points all at the right levels otherwise the shape of the shirt will be wrong.... and strictly speaking, it's the same for trousers (especially more close-fitting jeans) as the shaping around the knee probably wouldn't hit at the right point if you just lopped the length off at the base!
The advantage of reworking the pattern though, is that once you've figured it out you can make lots of items from the same pattern without needing to rework it for height again :P
Is there anything smaller in the book, like socks or something? The scarf would probably be quite easy, but it could be a long knit, given the length of the scarves in the films ;)
nods I was so pleased to win it, but then they said they were sending whatever size was available.... and of course that was men's medium. I don't think they even made them in women's sizing o.O

That def. sounds way more compicated than I gave it credit for. I am used to taking up my trousers.. which doesnt leave many options for me other than to take some from the bottom of the legs. ;) :hands you a massive bag of patience:
I believe there are socks in the book! I did oogle the scarf.. tempting tempting. ;) But that would take a while too.. even tho not as long as a sweater I guess. ;)
That is a real bummer. >_< Maybe you can use the fabric to make yourself something fun? I dunno how easy that would be. :)

nods thankfully I was able to fudge the jeans pattern I got last year, and it almost is a perfect fit (other than some weird drag lines around the knees and thighs that presumably mean I got something wrong :P and the back piece being considerably longer than the front (again, no idea how I did that) ;) ). But they're more wearable than if I'd made the pattern as it came originally :P
Maybe start with the socks to get a feel for how the patterns are written, before deciding on a bigger project?
I thought about trying to take it in, but as Mum pointed out, the fabric isn't all that nice feeling (it feels quite a cheap fabric considering it's an officially licensed HP hoodie, so they would be selling it for a lot!). It's got a quote on the back and something written on the sleeve (feels like it's just printed onto the fabric, if that makes sense?) and a little logo stitched on the front so I'm hoping I can try to replicate that somehow!

Jeans doesnt seem to be the easiest thing to make. :) I am sure next pair will turn out even better with some minor tweaks. ;)
That is def. a possibity! I read a little bit of the patterns, and they were written a bit different from what I am used to. But nothing I cant handle I would think!
Aww, it might not be so nice to make something out if it.. if the fabric doesnt feel nice. >_< but making something like that yourself might work! One can never have to much HP merch. 👼

thankfully I was able to get some cheap denim (£6 for a metre in the sale - and I can just squeeze one pair of jeans from a metre if I do the inside of the waistband in a different fabric!) so I can have some more plays with the pattern once we get to Autumn :D I can't really sew with denim when it's this hot, as the denim dye comes off on my hands as I sew! 😊
I reckon you'll do a fantastic job! :D
nods also, in a way I don't want to risk cutting it up in case I make a mess of it - if I just start afresh on some fabric, there's less pressure to make it right ;)

strange that. Today i had a nice migraine and tummy problems...fun, fun day. sounds yummy :D
-nods- today's ha is great too, or yesterday's
Aww, hope you feel better soon. :hugs: I am feeling drowsy today. but gonna try and go out for a walk. At least for a lil bit. :)
That is a great price for denim. :D Its been warm the last couple of days here, and its suppose to last this week ast least. So I am holding off working with wool at least. ;) Juli we had colder weather and loads of rain. Typical when most have their summer break. lol
:nods: You can always do a test run. :D

thanks :d That one's from probably three days ago - Niamh was moaning today that she needed clean clothes as those were starting to hum 😇 I took the plunge and name changed Terracoon to Sid and finally tweaked the coding to make his pet image actually sit inside the cage rather than overlapping the edge :P
nods I think it'll be quite thick as well, so it hopefully should be quite hard wearing :d I can't blame you on that - it was too hot & humid here to do much today too :K Now is our typical time for summer holidays (August is the peak holiday season), although a lot of coastal resorts are turning people away because their beaches are already full (especially with having to social distance). It sounds like July was a typical British summer for you! ;)
I think I've still got a half-finished pair of jeans I started last autumn - it was the 4th attempt at getting the pattern correct, and I stopped before I finished them, so I could work on the 'real' project.... but the half-finished ones (made from cheap denim again :P) should still be perfectly fine to wear once I eventually get them finished!

Denim usually gets more comfy the more you wear it too. ;) Very much like summers here I imagine. ;) You can get 12c and rain or it can be arond 30c and way too hot for comfort. You just never know what you are gonna get. ;) Here colleges and universiteties are starting up these days and they are already worried about people gathering for parties.. fun times. I am glad I didnt have to worry about corona when I was in college!
The cheap denim might not last as long as the better quality stuff, but yup should be more than fine to wear at least. :) :hands you another bag of patience for those WIPs: :)

nods you have to wear it a few times (certainly after its been washed) to let it ease in a bit more - otherwise it can be as stiff as a board :P nods It's 31C outside at the moment which is way too hot for me! 😊 Although I will admit I'd rather see sunlight than have those cold dreary drizzly days we get in summer quite often ;)
Yeah, same here! Over here the schools go back the first week of September, and the Universities don't go back until the first week of October.... and I think a lot of the universities were trying to add in some online elements so they didn't need all the students on campus at the same time.
That's true, although for that price I'm not too fussed laughs If I bought jeans in town they'd be much more expensive and probably not much better quality (if at all).... although I will admit I'm not brave enough to try using some £30 a metre denim but I'd love to know what the quality of jeans made from that expensive stuff would feel like! ;)

Good denim will kinda shape after your body. :) Can be very comfortable to wear if it has some stretch (not too much either). :) Its about 27degrees in my livingroom right now. :P Not sure how much it is outside... havent checked my therometer. :)
Here they start next week for the most part. :) Even tho the universities and colleges has a week of getting to know eachother, and other students take them under their wing and show them around. A lot of drinking involved. Of course. ;) Not sure if they are doing some online courses, or if they are gonna be having lectures like normal.
That is the downside of buying the nicer things, you end up worried about messing it up. ;) Its not like with yarn, where you can frog it easily and start over as easily. ;)

I always try to buy denim with a little bit of stretch, as that makes the size easier to figure out :P
Hopefully your weather will cool down soon as well - anything over 25C is too hot for indoors! It's almost 30C in the room where my computer is, so I think I'll try some sewing in the living room or something later on, as this is way too hot to be in here!
That sounds very much like the 'fresher's week' events they have over here for the universities, where they'd normally show them around the local pubs & clubs of an evening during that week ;)
nods I mean it's possible to cut something smaller out of it if a larger project didn't work, but it's not really something I've ever tried before! :P

Gives you a bit more wiggleroom. :D
Its suppose to get a bit cooler the next few days.. still quite warm tho. :) Its at least 27c today, so mum and I went down to the sea and watched people bathe and just hung out. :) The seabreeze was nice. :) Its near 30c in my livingroom right now so I feel your pain. :P I have my fan cooling me down a little at least. Even tho I hate the noise of it. 😆
I never participated in that when I went to college. :P I did the tour around the campus and stuff tho of course. :) Not big on clubs etc. ;)
That is always a possiblities. You can make all sorts of things from denim. Like bags- pillow cases and stuff like that. :D

sorry for thr delay. This migrwine is evil. Any plans that are fun and exciting?
Lol yeah i should change mine too. Oh i like in the cage xd and yay on the name change
No worries hun, you just take care and feel better soon. :squishes:
Mum and I went down to the sea today and just hung out. Was nice. :) dinner here and whatnot. :)
