NEXT CHALLENGE

WEEK 15! I can't believe it! Time is flying by - and it sounds even crazier when I say there are only 25 weeks left until baby arrives.

This week's challenge:

I am still not showing, but I know the time is coming close. Any pants I had that fit snugly before don't button and I'm limited to only wearing the clothes that were a little lose to begin with. So I am in need of some "Maternity Must Haves"

What clothing items are practical and versatile? I don't want to go overboard since the clothes is only worn for a few months. So I just want a few pieces that I can put with anything to get me through. I'm open to suggestions!

So first I would say a couple of pairs of stretchy waist pants. To be honest after wearing them I don't think I will ever go back to button jeans XD; still wearing them and my baby is 6 months old XD I would also suggest some dresses you could easily pull down to feed your child when the need arises. I can't wear ALL my clothes right now because I have to have access to my breast to fed him, so dresses I can like just pull down are really helpful and I can wear them yet again after the fact cause they are sorta lose around the belly area. I also got some leggings, cause they will stretch around your waist while your prego and still fit when your not ^^

I always think the loose dress with a tie waist is really a staple (*unless it is winter, then maybe something similar but thicker fabric and warmer). I like this item becuase it can expand as you go, and you can comfortably wear it afterwards too. Also they do make a lot of leggings/pants with elastic tummy areas to allow for pregnancy and there is no pesky zipper or button in the front. :)

(after reading Flyingkat's post) -- They also make super cool nursing bras with a hook on the top, above the cup, that make feeding super easy too, so her idea plus that bra means it'll be easier!

Think about the weather! Like I live in Chicago so if I was gonna be pregnant here I'd want maternity clothes that could serve me well through all the seasons we have here. A dress might seem nice and comfy right now here, but it'd only be useful for a month before it'd be unwearable for several u_u; Big cozy hoodies are a personal favorite of mine :)

Long flowing t-shirts/tunics, jersey dresses, leggings, et cetera. Babydoll tops and dresses, empire waist dresses with full skirts. I mean you can still wear all those things when you're no longer pregnant and they don't look like "maternity clothes".

In Brazil it's common to see future moms using this kind of top called "bata", not sure if there's a specific word for it in English, but it's basically a loose shirt a bit longer than the usual, made with a very light fabric

I remember when my art teacher is pregged 9 months and because it was summer too she wore the very loose and big dress, of course you aren't that big yet and perhaps find a tighter kind of clothes like that! Definitely not zipped up pants!!

Dresses like baby doll ones and leggings but not the showy one and very thin, the ones from proper materials that you can wear anywhere and for longer, but you dont have ro Button up, just pull them up, and maybe high waist ones.

I loved dresses when I was pregnant. After a while putting on clothing was kind of a chore. And having to run to the bathroom every fifteen seconds didn't help. lol I would stay away from anything too complicated (snaps, buttons, etc) in the way of pants. Dresses are easy and comfy. And if you intend to breast feed, you will want some things that are easy to manage that in.

Personally I don’t like dresses. I would stock up on stretchy leggings and comfy T-shirts.

Loose and stretchy dresses are a must have in my opinion. Babydoll style shirts and dresses are usually flattering on any pregnant person and show off your baby bump in a good way. I got mine from a discount store called Ross. You won't be wearing these clothes long in the grand scheme of things and I feel like paying some of these exorbitant prices for name brand maternity clothes are a waist.

I'd also recommend at least two stretchy waisted pants with a waistband that goes high over your stomach. I got one that only came mid-stomach and by the end it kept rolling down. If you're in a warmer climate I'd suggest getting some stretchy shorts too (places like Florida because winter hates us). Yoga pants or sweatpants that can go over your belly button are nice to wear around the house. I mention going over your belly button specifically because if you have a csection you will not want anything that hits that scar line. I wore nothing but pajama bottoms for two weeks after my csection. With winter approaching elsewhere I'd suggest getting a large sweater or jacket that will cover your growing stomach. Shoes with good supports that can slip on should not be overlooked. You will not want to be lacing or tying shoes by the end.

Some cotton undies that go over your bikini line and some GOOD BRAS (they don't necessarily have to be nursing ones) should be added to the list. From my experience bras with underwire will try to murder your boobies and ones that are too tight can lead to mastitis or blocked milk ducts. Remember you will still use maternity clothes after giving birth. Your uterus doesn't shrink back to normal size immediately and in the case of having a csection you will want to wear all those stretchy bottoms until your scar heals.

Looks like you have a lot of good suggestions already Evalynn. The styles now with stretchy material are so good, compared to what we had to choose from in the dark ages when I had my babies. I think the stretch tights with a loose top look nice and comfortable.

i definitely think you hit on it yourself already! a good pair of black or other dark, neutral coloured pants are a must. you can build anything around those, but you need some that will be able to stretch as you do start to show, but that won't be too loose early on. an elastic waist would be ideal, but with a nice belt, you open up to some decent options for jeans or dress pants.

i personally like lose fitting, flowy tops just in general, so i highly suggest anything with a nice, long, loose design. knitted ponchos, especially as autumn and winter get closer in this part of the world, would be great choices too!

Yoga pants are great for stretchiness, and cute sun dresses will fit at a bunch of stages. Both are versatile and reusable. Flowy tops will do you no wrong!

weird, and slightly specific, but chico's clothes are really comfy. i see a lot of them at the thrift store and my mom really enjoys the stretchy loose-leg pants.

also, don't pay retail for anything-- thrifting or ebay is the way to go. it saves a bunch of money ad you can get new with tags stuff sometimes. plus i've seen some mad cute baby clothes at the thrift store.
