Fair enough! I'm just spitballing. Tbh, it could just be that "Noflaik" was just a pun somebody thought was too funny to not have as a challenger.

Even more Spitballing I agree that the Dungarde specifically going out of its way to keep Jaxon out of the conversation is pretty suspicious. Honestly, so was the part where it said that between it and Jaxon, choosing Dungarde was "the right choice". Like... no shame, huh, buddy? We don't even know you. It does seem pretty convenient that it seems to know a whole lot of things about Jaxon that nobody else can corroborate.

Another thing that occurred to me is that this plot seems to be making a really big deal about the fact that we, the player, are a pretty cool person. I think almost every character so far has commented on our good nature (including ourselves, self-congratulatory twerps that we are). This Skedhu thing seems like it's being set up as some kind of cosmic karmic mirror. Maybe it'll see us, go "hey, you're pretty cool," and that'll push us over the threshold into happy ending territory, lol.

Or, probably more likely, maybe it'll just see Jaxon decide to give his heart to this perfect stranger Dungarde and resign himself to eternal ghostliness. Maybe it'll decide that was pretty nice of him and give him a second chance, or something.

My thoughts: Maybe Jaxon should get his body and his memories back. I mean, he can't really be sorry about what he did unless he actually, you know, knows what he did, right? He can live, but he has to live with the guilt. That seems fair.

Ineffable Husbands

I have been looking for a post like this since I finished last step; mostly because I have a lot of fears concerning the route the story has been taking and wasn't able to put them in words properly...

A bit of rambling... Personally, I feel like my judgement might be "biased" from the fact that I care deeply for Jaxon and Ian's story, since they were the reason I decided to join Subeta. I also didn't take part of the first plot myself, just read about it from a close friend who doesn't play anymore. Still, I feel like a lot of people, like me, would be at least a bit frustrated if they had taken part of two plots over the last few years only to accomplish almost nothing.

And, since I believe the people writing it know about that, I agree with when they say it could probably be a fakeout. A lot of things are not settling well with me at the moment, especially concerning the Dungarde, because so far things seem to have been pretty straightfoward and simple: we sold puzzles, give him hearts, it gives us information. But the whole "lie by omission" things has not left my mind, so I'm not so keen on trusting this being.

I agree with about Skedhu being set up as some sort of karma mirror; even though I'm not an English native speaker and have been reading the plot dialogue mostly during the night (so, losing a lot of details), it has been the impression I had even back when Jaxon first explained what the word meant.

I would think that, if the Dungarde isn't actively deceiving for "evil purposes", than it might be lying by omission to test if Jaxon is really willing to sacrifice his own freedom to maybe start owning to his family's past mistakes? Maybe Dungardale is Skedhu, or maybe he is a part of Jaxon who is trapped there, maybe his memories and his other rotten feelings, trying to test if his heart is truly changed...?

Either way, the way the whole thing has been set so far makes me think that it is a test. And then, maybe the Dungarde is worried about Ian for it knows that his feelings might prevent him from letting Jaxon sacrifice himself in order to prove his change of heart?

That's probably it for my rambling... it doesn't add much to the discussion, I guess, but I needed to get it out of my chest. Also, I think it would make sense Jaxon did get his memories back in the end... if he is truly going through a route of self-improvement, he needs to be aware of his past in order to make sure to never repeat it, right? :)

I just saw it. I'm not sure I trust the name of it. As for the item, I haven't read the description, but I can imagine it's the sort of item I've been needing recently...I think the end is coming soon...

EDIT: I read the description. Seems appropriate. Still not sure I trust the achievement title though...I mean, we don't know WHOSE freedom it is...

I'm hoping for a twist of some kind. I like the "Secretly tested" theory. Or maybe there's just another option.

Despite the anxiety, this plot's still been good, I like the way the steps are introduced on the news posts, where it says what we're apparently doing...makes me feel really involved...

HUGE SPOILERS DO NOT LOOK IF YOU ARE NOT READY WHAT!!!

A!!!!

RELIEF!!!!!!!

Also, I'm surprised there was no boss fight or anything. But then I guess not all plots end that way. I don't recall the 2013 Masquerade plot having one, but that was a long time ago and my memory of that is vague.

That's all I have to say for now.

Well then.

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE NEWEST PART OF THE PLOT I'm glad my optimism paid off, even if I was way wrong on what would happen and what the deal with the Dungarde is (at least for now?).

The current ending feels a little sudden, and I'm curious what will happen once Jaxon's awake (suddenly being back among the living in a previously long-deceased body must be weird), but so far it looks like we've got ourselves a happy ending for now. 😊

...I have to wonder if we'll get more information on what the Dungarde's deal is, though. That brief flash of its memories was pretty weird, and unless I missed it, it doesn't seem like it got any kind of explanation so far.

alright time for

very thankful that my pedantic complaints about finding his heart when his body just... rotting out in the middle of nowhere was addressed lmao. also very thankful it looks like we've gotten a nice happy ending :') i would've liked to see the actual skedhu (assuming it's a singular entity) but i'll settle for fighting noflaik!

the very first flashback, with "figures and armor" or whatever it was? i think that was just the dungarde's memory of its creation

- Yup, that one!

SPOILER (click to toggle) I'm mostly wondering what the deal with that was because some of the details in it still feel... pretty weird. Mainly the fact we didn't get to find out what kind of spirit/ghost it was before being bound to the armor (the "bound by blood" line and how much it knows about the Skelly family was a big part of why I thought it'd be connected to Jaxon or his father), and after the last update I'm not sure if the red liquid mentioned was supposed to be blood or ruby widow venom.

I think there's a chance we might hear a bit more about it when the plot prizes are given out (if not on the prize page or whatever leads up to it, then maybe in some of the item descriptions), so for now it's just making me wonder if I overlooked it mentioning anything else.

About the interactive part this time...

SPOILER (click to toggle) Does anyone have any idea how many "end" choices (the ones requiring you to start over) there are for the CYOA segment, in addition to the correct path leading to the lake? I ran into one that involved stumbling across a nest of baby Pylots and nearly inciting the wrath of their mom, but that's the only one I found that was explicitly marked as an end choice and let you start over from the beginning. A couple other choices seem to be temporary detours (like following the river long enough), but only end up requiring you to go a step back.

It's too bad there's no way to replay that segment, as far as I can tell. I'd love to see what some of the choices I ended up not picking lead to - a couple of the wrong choices I got to see were pretty amusing, like the one involving the crystal.

SPOILER (click to toggle) i don't think the memory was meant to do much more than establish it as a servant of the skelly family that's been around for a long, long time (one of the later uh... "models" produced by ambrose, either not one of the first ones or just one of the first successful ones?), but i'd have to reread to be sure.

i stopped screencapping the choose your own adventure section after a bit, but i ran into the nest of pylots one, i got knocked unconscious running from graveyard popokos that were offended by my stale crackers and pocket cheese, and i think i may have had one more (TRY AGAIN/QUIT) ending. :B i'm... not so good at navigating the woods! hopefully that doesn't cause problems for my prizes, hah.

SPOILER (click to toggle) Somehow I managed not to end up having to start the choose your own adventure thing over. I remember getting to a crystal but choosing not to touch it, going to a web and trying to break it, following a stream, and then somehow I ended up at the place? I guess I was lucky.

About that CYOA I navigated through that part by "trial and error". I ran into the baby pylots and poisenend myself with some wild berries. Those were the two choices where I had to start over. All the other things, the "gingerbread house" and following that stream until I couldn't go any further, were "detours" that just took some time, but didn't give me a "Try again" :)

On another note, why do I had to keep thinking about Fullmetal Alchemist during that whole "bound by blood"-ritual description?

C is for Cop Out!

It's what happens when you've reached the end of the event so you have to pull something out of your rear end to resolve the plot (without upsetting the shippers, apparently).

EDIT: After having to do the dial puzzle twice, I hope Jaxon chokes on his welcome-to-life pumpkin pie.
