oooo now that sounds tasty! I've never actually had a sponge cake with fresh fruit and whipped cream - normally Gran would make just a plain sponge cake with a buttercream filling. Mine is actually Christmas cake laughs Gran always made me a smaller version of it for my birthday, so it's the proper heavy fruit cake with black treacle, covered with marzipan and icing ;)

as do you, that's a very foresty look you've got today, but it works incredibly well with the jacket :D Yay for getting everything clean :D I was working on a sewing project yesterday - I got some linen fabric to do a product review on, so I've been making it into a jacket. I haven't yet decided if I'll add a button on it, or just leave it open (I hate sewing buttonholes!) ;) Last night my hand eczema decided to flare up quite severely for me, so today has to be a boring "do nothing" day - it was going to be an afternoon working on the allotment, but I can't do anything that means I need to wash my hands extra, as that'll make them even worse :K

Thank you! I really really wanted to wear this new jacket. I thought it was perfect because it had hints of teal and berry. I am only sad that the hints are kind of tiny and it's not real teal and berry (I should just start calling the color combo Bertal or Teary or Bealty giggles at self)

I sewed a bit day before yesterday but it was just a table cloth so nothing special. Do you not have a machine to sew the buttonhole or do you do it by hand? Either way is tedious still. Do you like working with the fabric so far? I am sorry for the hand eczema - that is horrible. I know how painful it can be to have to wash it too (from people I know who've had it). hugs

It looks perfect ;) I have a machine with an automatic buttonhole setting, but depending on the fabric, sometimes it messes up and just doesn't feed the fabric through properly.... the last casual shirt I tried making, I cheated and did a hidden buttonhole placket just in case.... and of course all of those worked perfectly :P Apart from the fabric being quite 'fray-happy', it's actually really nice to sew :D The jacket pattern has bound seams, so I've spent a while sewing bias binding to the seams to cover them up and stop them fraying ;)

Today it's not as bad as yesterday evening (they were so sore yesterday I could barely hold a pen, and the slightest thing brushing against them (like taking off a t-shirt) was stupidly painful.... after putting a load of thick cream on my hands, it took 10 minutes before they had calmed down enough for me to even hold a mug of tea), but they're still not 'right', even for me. It just ends up going like sunburn (without having been out in the sun) :K I think it's down to the new handcream I tried out on Friday - I guess there's something in it which my skin reacted to, but my doctor never even suggested patch testing to find out what aggravates my skin, he just told me "you have dermatitis" and that was it o.O

Raven says they call that kinda cake angel cake at her house. :) You can use raspberry jam or other things like that too. :) Never had the english type christmas cake, but I would love to try. Sounds really yummy! :)

I am so glad Nigel is back to his usual-cute-loving-pestering-Raven self. Kodiak is much himself now. He's got some sort of really strange skin problem around his ankles/paws though and I think it's related to his systemic lupus. The poor thing. His fur is while so I can see his bright pink-inflamed looking skin under his thin white fur. Well, his lupus will leave him with lots of problems - poor little guy. I am just glad he has me, I won't give up on him.

Did you make your own bias tape or purchase matching bias tape? Also it sounds annoying that the buttonhole on the machine acts that way. I love that the one time you covered it up with the placket it worked out though, how funny.

Do you use any steroidal cream or anything to help control the eczema or just heavy creams when it flares up? My aunt has had to use steroidal cream and the dr put my dad on something similar when he thought he had eczema. hugs I am sorry for the pain and discomfort though. Sometimes we are just sensitive to a lot of strange things. So perhaps trial and error is the way for you to go, sadly. It's not a good path or easy but eventually you'll figure it out I bet.
