Henrietta felt a lot better Monday morning. Good thing too because her last delivery before Christmas came in and she needed to stock the shelves before the last mad rush of customers expected this week. She also had her oven working double time to keep up with the online orders. Thankfully she had already put a &;Last Call&; note on the site so that after today, she could have a break for a few weeks.
Liza came by to check on her, which was sweet until she pulled out her phone to show the pictures she took from the party. She&;d get her back someday, and she won&;t even see it coming.
Ray also popped in. Henrietta playfully smacked his shoulder and told him to watch what he put in her drinks from now on. He apologized and gave her a great big hug, lifting her off the ground. Then he went on about how Margo asked him to be the auctioneer at the fundraiser, and that he was so excited he was thinking of renting a tux for it. "I mean, I didn&;t even wear one when Mic and I got married. We sorta just went to the justice of the peace in the clothes we were wearing at the time. So to get all gussied up for this is going to be so much fun! Hey, what are you going to wear? Got some fancy dress? Want me to do your makeup and hair? Yes yes, so cliché for a gay man, but to be honest I love playing with other peoples hair. Which is a shame really that Mic doesn&;t have much. I asked him to grow it out once, and he just grunted at me. ..."
"Ray, hun, stop and take a breath will ya. To be honest I don&;t really have anything to wear yet. I texted Liza last night to see if she could find something in her closet that might fit me, but nadda. I&;m going to have to run into the city I think and find something. I hate clothes shopping though."
"Ohhh Ohh! let me pick something out for you!"
"What? no, don&;t be silly. I don&;t even know what fits me or makes me look good. I&;ll have to try on a bazillion dresses."
"Pfft. I know exactly what would make you shine. I&;ll pick something up tomorrow and bring it over. If you don&;t like it, you will still have time to shop ok?"
"Well, I mean..I can&;t go shopping until Wednesday anyway. I&;m closing up tomorrow for the holidays. So, I guess..it can&;t hurt. I&;ll text you my size..and no laughing ok."
"You my dear are stunning. Size does not matter. EEEEEE now I&;m even more excited! I&;m going now to find you the perfect dress!" And just like that, he was hurrying out the door.
"Oh Man, I have a feeling I&;m going to regret this." She finished stocking the shelf she was working on, and then took all the empty boxes to the recycling out front.

"Oh my! Fancy clothes and fancy hair. If I had hair, I&;d definitely let Ray work his magic on it. He seems trustworthy, right?"

"Hey, been a good sales day?" Jack had been walking past the shop and saw Henrietta by the recycle bins.
She smiled and attempted to flip her hair in a flirtatious way. The wind caught it and blew it right into her mouth. Yup, very non sexy. "pfhfht, hey, yeah always busy the last few days before any holiday. People always leave their shopping to the last minute."
"ha, I have to confess, I&;m one of those people. I came by to see if you had any special bunny treats. I&;d like to pick some up. I want to try and get Bean Bunny to pose for some pictures. Thought it would be nice to get a good one framed for Mic."
"Aww, now that is a super thoughtful gift. Yeah sure, I think I still have some, come on in."
As she headed back in she noticed another gift box, just like the others, on the ground. She looked around to see if anyone else had walked by. And just like before, no one. She turned to look at Jack.
"Did you put this here?"
"Me? No. I didn&;t even see it until you pointed it out just now."
She eyed him suspiciously. But then she thought more about it. It&;s not like she&;d ever met Jack before. And how would he have a photo of her and her grandma. Yet, it was too much of a coincidence. Bending down and picking up the package, she walked inside the shop and held the door for Jack.
"It&;s a very pretty wrapping on it. Do you know who it&;s from?"
"No, that&;s just the thing. This is the third one I&;ve received this month. No name on the card, but each time has been a snow globe." She pointed to the other two on the shelf behind the counter.
"Oh wow, very nice. That one of your shop is a very good likeness, almost as if they miniaturized the real thing. And is that you sitting on Santa&;s lap? Aww weren&;t you adorable. Who&;s the lady next to you?"
"That&;s my grandma. She died years ago. I miss her a lot. I don&;t even remember this picture. I&;d never seen it before this showed up. It&;s all very mysterious."
"hmm, well this person must know you very well then. What&;s in this new gift?"
Jack watched as she opened the gift. Like last time, inside was another snow globe, with a new picture. Henrietta and Jack looked at each other with wide eyes. "It&;s you isn&;t it! You set up a camera and took this picture!"
"What? No, no I swear this isn&;t me! I&;d really like to know who took it though. Maybe Mic had a hidden camera?"
"Oh come on Jack, really, if it&;s you, just go on and tell me. I won&;t be mad."
Jack was very adamant that it wasn&;t him who took the picture. And when she looked into his eyes, she could tell he wasn&;t lying.
"I believe you Jack, I do. This also doesn&;t feel like something Mic would do. Besides, look at the angle the picture is taken from. Mic would have to be a tech geek with it and that&;s just not him. Someone else had to have snuck into Mic&;s house and set up the camera. But...who?"
Henrietta reached back into the box and found the note. She read it out loud for Jack.
"Christmas time can be very hectic, and we can lose sight of the true meaning of the season. Once in a while, it&;s nice to be reminded that even though we may think we are alone in this world, we are never truly alone if we are surrounded by love. "
Jack and her looked back down at the snow globe in her hand. Mounted inside was a group photo from Saturday night. It was taken at the exact right moment when everyone was laughing and smiling, having the time of their lives.
Henrietta&;s eyes were slightly wet. Jack threw his arm around her. &;Well&;, she thought, &;SS you sure know how to bring the warm and fuzzies . Next time could you bring them with less tears? Jack&;s going to think I&;m one of those sappy girls. I mean, I might be, but he doesn&;t need to know that yet.&;
She placed the snow globe on the shelf next to the other two. "This SS sure is something. They must care about you a lot."
"Yeah, it&;s very unexpected." She ran her hand over the glass one more time. "I hope that whoever SS is, they know I appreciate the gesture."

"Hmm this SS is pretty sneaky. Could it still be Jack? Or maybe it&;s someone else...only a few more days till we find out!"

Henrietta ushered out the last customers at 4pm on Tuesday. As she closed and locked the door, she rested her forehead on the closed sign. It had been a very long day. Customers were already lined up outside her door an hour before she opened, and it was a constant stream of people asking things like &;My friend has a pet gerbil, do you think it would like a ball for Christmas?&; or &;What kind of fish would a 3 year old like?&; She became the patron saint of gift ideas. Thankfully she had let Spirit wander the store again today, and he entertained a lot of the customers waiting in line.
She thought at one point today that she finally found an adopter for Jube Jube, but then the queen of crankiness had to poop on their head. Henrietta had to hold back a snicker, but she&;s pretty sure the customer saw her smirk just a little.
At least now she had a glorious week off to rest and enjoy the holiday. As she gathered Jube Jube and called Spirit to follow her, she heard a &;rap rap&; at the door. She didn&;t move, for fear it was another customer. "Henrietta! It&;s Me! It&;s Ray!" Oh right! He was supposed to come over tonight with whatever garment he could find for her to wear on Sunday.
She opened the door and let him in. "Sorry Ray, I forgot you were coming over. It&;s been one of those days."
"No worries." He was smiling at her. "Are you still up for trying some of these on?" He held up a dress bag that seemed to be quite full.
"Sure, come on up. I can&;t promise I&;m going to be quick about it though. I feel like I&;ve been running a marathon all day."
"Aww, well just think, now you can rest up so that you are radiant for Sunday! You know, a nice hot bubble bath, and an oatmeal mask would perk you right up. Let me run back to Mic&;s real quick, you can use some of my special concoctions!" He gave her the dress bag, and hurried out the door. "Ray, just lock up the door when you come back ok? I&;ll be upstairs." Hoping that he heard her, but too tired to really care, she went up to the apartment.
Spirit and Jube Jube were so used to the routine now. Once they were inside they instantly started to demand food. "Alright, alright! I&;m getting it." Spirit was twining between her legs as she was opening the can of cat food, and Jube Jube was sauntering up and down the counter flapping her wings waiting for her bowl of bird seed. While the two animals were eating, not so quietly, Henrietta put on the kettle and went to change out of her work clothes into a sweatshirt and yoga pants.
As she was sitting down on the couch, Ray came in. "Mic sent along some homemade beef stew for you. He said that a full stomach will also help. "
"Cheers. That&;s very kind of him. What is he up to tonight?"
"He&;s trying to sort out the flower arrangements for Sunday. One of the greenhouses he orders from got broken into so he&;s had to hunt for another good place. I told him he should really start his own, would help cut costs. Plus I&;m here now, so I could help with it. He&;s thinking about it. But you know him, it takes him ages to ponder things. He&;s adorable when he thinks though, that little brown furrow..." Ray had a goofy glazed look on his face for a moment.
Henrietta smiled and waited until he came back to Earth.
"Sorry, here was I? Oh right. Ok so here is the oatmeal mask, and here is the bath bubbles. Both guaranteed to moisturize your skin and wash away any stress. I use the mask every day. Once we&;ve found you a dress, we can put it on together. It will be like we are.." He stopped short and then looked towards his feet. "What is it Ray?" "It&;s just, I never had a sister growing up. And it was hard being, well me when I was younger. It&;s so nice to have females in my life, you , Lisa and Margo. I Just don&;t want you to think I&;m pushy, that&;s all." She got up off the couch and walked up to him, wrapped her arms around him in a hug. "I can say that I&;ve never met anyone like you, but I&;m so glad that I have." He hugged her back and the stayed that way for a few moments. "Even if you&;re pushy" she said as she let go and stepped back.
"Ok, let&;s get on with the fashion show! Oh man, you are going to LOVE the dresses I found for you. And once you pick one, we&;ll discuss hair and makeup!" He clapped his hands together. "eee I&;m so excited for you! When I&;m done with you on Sunday, you will rake in the most money. I just know it!"
"Yeah, well let&;s not get ahead of ourselves. I don&;t have a lot of hope in choosing a dress. I&;m so used to wearing pants."
"Don&;t even missy. I know where you&;re going with that though, and you are about to banish it!" He took the dress bag into her bed room, Spirit following him. "Well, get your butt in here! The sooner you choose the dress, the sooner we can oatmeal ourselves and gossip about boys!"
She rolled her eyes. "Oh Brother." This was going to be, fun, right?

"I wonder if that Oatmeal mask would do wonders for my fur? At this time of year it does get very dry. I should look into that! See you tomorrow!"

Hopefully someone will post yesterday's story for all to read. :)

Belated thank you for the story on the 21st and yesterday. Hope Rodney got a good rest yesterday. I could use the same but I don't see one coming for a few days yet. (It's way past my bedtime)

Everyone is so busy right now ! Sadly I cannot double post (or post them in the same post). So here's the update from the 21st !

So Henrietta&;s surprise, but not to us right?, her fashion show went really well! Not only did Ray find one dress that fit and made her feel like a queen, but he found three! She couldn&;t help but prance around her apartment in each one several times. He truly did have a knack for this. In the end, they both settled on one of the dresses. It really went well with her pale skin and red hair. She couldn&;t stop smiling. Maybe she won&;t feel as much of a fool up on that stage now.
Ray promised to still do her hair and makeup, and he even got some accessories for her to wear. "I think you should do this as a side business. You are amazing!"
"Aww, shucks. I just love making people shine that&;s all. I think if I did it as a business I wouldn&;t love it as much. But for you lady, anytime!"
To celebrate the dress finding, they did indeed do the oatmeal masks, ate cookies, and gossiped about boys...
"Ok," Ray said with mouth full of sugar cookie, "So I&;m just going to come out and ask, what do you think of my cousin?"
" Umm, well, I think he&;s a nice person."
"No, I mean, what do you THINK about him? He&;s single you know. Has been for some time. He&;s quite the catch, though of course I&;m biased..."
Henrietta cleared her throat and could feel her face flush again. "oh. I. Well..I mean.."
"Pfft, you can be honest with me! I won&;t say anything to him. To be honest, Mic and I have a bet going. Mic thinks that you two will get together by new years, I on the other hand have a different date in mind..."
She glared at him. "Is this bet the reason why you offered to find me a dress for the fundraiser?"
He popped another cookie in his mouth.
"OMG it is isn&;t it! Why you sly devil you. " She gave him a playful punch on his shoulder. She let her mind wander a bit. "Wait, is that also why you sent Jack over to return my phone?"
" Heh, well, what can I say. I&;m a romantic at heart. It isn&;t the ONLY reason though. I had asked Mic how someone as lovely as you was still single. I mean, you&;re a young beautiful woman, and you have the kindest heart, it just didn&;t make sense. He told me that you never really dated. I figured something had happened to take your confidence away and well, I wanted to help you out."
She got up from the couch, walked over to the window and gazed out over the snow covered ground. "You&;re right. I haven&;t had much luck with men. More than once I was told I wasn&;t enough, or that I wasn&;t what men really wanted. I guess I just figured it was true. I mean, I have a roof over me, food to eat, a job that I love, and friends who make me laugh. It&;s a full life. I can&;t really complain."
Ray got up and stood next to Henrietta and placed a hand on her shoulder. "You&;re right, you do have a full life. But you also deserve to share it with someone, share yourself and your heart. Look at me and Mic. ha, we aren&;t a usual match. He&;s 10 years old than me and a manly florist, while I&;m a young flamboyant geek. Yet, we found each other, and we fit perfectly. I firmly believe that there is someone out there for everyone. You just have to forget about the jerks in the past, and open your heart to a good guy."
She sniffled a little. "I know. It&;s just hard sometimes."
"Well, that&;s why I&;m here now! I&;ll take you under my wing and turn you into the most beautiful bird!"
She laughed out loud. "Oh Ray."
"Hey, I do have a tenner on you for this bet. I don&;t plan to lose. I hate losing." He winked at her.

"Ray the little matchmaker! Wonder if he&;ll win the bet or not. ;)"

Omg I'm so dumb, I was looking at page 3 being so confused why everyone was only talking about the older chapters XD

The next few days were nice and quiet. Henrietta didn&;t have to get up early, except when Spirit thought breakfast time should be 3am, 5am and 7am, and she could lounge around on the couch watching old holiday specials.
Liza came several times, only to talk about which bachelor she was going to bid on. She kept changing her mind. "It&;s going to be Kirk."
"Kirk? The guy who works in the lumber department at the hardware store? Why him? What happened to Dean?"
"Pfft, Dean came into the shop yesterday with some brunette on his arm. And why not Kirk? He&;s closer to my age then most of the guys I date, and he has the hottest arse. I mean I could just.."
"Stop right there, Spirit has innocent ears and he doesn&;t need to hear about what you could just do."
They also discussed the new snow globe. Liza was adamant now that her SS was Mic. "I mean, he really is the sweetest guy, and it&;s always the quiet ones that know how to be sneaky. At least this time he&;s being sneaky in a very nice way."
"Yeah, but how did he get the picture of me and my grams? I told you before, I&;ve never seen that particular one before."
"Well, he did grow up in this town. Maybe his family knew your grams? Either way, your SS is very sweet. I wonder when he&;s going to tell you it&;s him? Or maybe he never will and it will be this fantastic mystery you talk about forever!"
"Well, I hope that he does tell me. I&;d like to hug him and swat him at the same time."
Margo called on Friday to tell her that almost all the animals up for adoption had gone to homes for the holiday. She was so excited. Henrietta told her that since Spirit had fit in with her so well, she was going to keep him. "OMG that&;s amazing! I always knew you should have animals of your own. He is one lucky kitty!"
She didn&;t see much of Ray, Mic and Jack though. Ray said that he had a big program he needed to get done before the weekend, as the customer was heading outside the country and needed it before they left. Mic was very busy in his shop. Everyone loves buying plants or flowers during the holidays.
Jack did come by on Saturday though. He wanted to show her the pictures he took of Bean Bunny. "These are amazing! Mic is going to love them."
"Thanks. I was going through them at Liza&;s shop trying to pick which ones I liked best, and some lady came up to me and asked if I did pet photos professionally, and if so, could I come and shoot her llamas. Ha! "
"Ah, Mrs Fig. Yeah she sells the wool and also makes a lot of great clothes out of it."
"You mean someone actually owns llamas? Man, this town is full of surprises."
"Are you going to go do it?
"Maybe. I dunno. Big difference than taking pictures of wildlife."
"True. But still rewarding in its own way."
He was looking at her with that contemplating face again. It was sorta cute. She just smiled back at him.
"Uh, so tomorrow&;s the big day eh. Are you looking forward to it now that Ray hooked you up with something to wear?"
"Well, I&;m looking forward to most of the fundraiser yes. I&;m still unsure about the auction. But, even if I get a few bucks from Liza, I know that it goes to a cause I care about. So I&;m going to just focus on that to get through it. How about you? Are you looking forward to the other festivities? There&;s dancing you know. I could recommend a great coat rack..."
Jack snorted. "oh no, I wouldn&;t dream of stealing your coat rack. I hear once one has chosen you, it&;s for life!"
Henrietta laughed with earnest. She was going to miss Jack when he left. He hadn&;t specifically said he was leaving, but there wasn&;t anything really for him here, so she suspected that he&;d leave after the holidays. Maybe if he was here for New Years she&;d work up the courage to ask him for a date. 
"I feel like Henrietta under estimates herself. I really hope that she has a lot of suitors bid on her tomorrow! Maybe one of them will be her SS! Oh, also the last two chapters may go out at later times, as it&;s the BIG NIGHT so I&;ll be a tad bit busy. "

Aww, I prefer to think of llamas as cute and fluffy - I'll have to make sure not to spend any time with actual llamas. :P

[edit] I hope all is well with CF and Rodney - I'm quite curious to see how the auction turned out and who SS ends up being! No pressure, of course though - just interest. ^_^
