I'm hoping it turns out well and I assume it will but that was not very nice of Liza. Not at all. Well meaning maybe but not very nice.

THank you RR and CF.

"Two weeks until Christmas day! I can&;t believe how fast this month is going by! Before we know it, I&;ll be done with the story and I&;ll have to say goodbye to you new friends :( &;Sniff&; Is someone cutting onions? Go, go forth and read the next chapter while I find a tissue."

Saturday morning couldn&;t come soon enough. Henrietta marched right over to Liza&;s coffee shop at 9 am.

"Liza Marie Gracie Jones, I have a bone to pick with you!"

Liza was restocking coffee cups, and didn&;t even flinch when Henrietta spoke. "Oh my, using my full name, I&;m shaking in my heels." She turned around to face Henrietta, a great big grin on her face. "I take it you spoke with Margo? Look, I told you I was going to make it my mission to find you love this Christmas, so you were for warned."

"This, THIS! is not just a mission. You know darn well that I am not comfortable being in the spotlight. That I already have issues when it comes to dating, and now you&;re setting me up to be humiliated in front of friends, the towns people, and god knows how many strangers from the city!" She shook her finger at Liza. "You better make sure that you bid on me for a decent price! And I&;m not paying for it! You got me in this mess, you get me out of it!"

Liza ran over and hugged Henrietta. "Oh Rita, darling, I didn&;t think you&;d get this worked up about the possibility of a date with a fella. I just wanted you to have a little happiness this year. Look, I&;ve already scouted out a few nice guys to bid on you. I wasn&;t going to let you sit up there and not have bids. I&;d never do something that hurtful. You know I love you to bits! I promise you, if it looks like no one is going to bid on you, which won&;t happen because you&;re amazing, but if it does! I will make sure I bid $250.00 on you! You are worth way more than that, but at least that&;s a decent amount to donate to the shelter. Is that ok?"

Henrietta was still steaming mad, but the steam was starting to dissipate. She hugged her friend back. "Alright, but you owe me for this. And what am I even going to wear? You know I don&;t own anything that doesn&;t have animal hair on it."

"Oh pish lady, I got something extra special for you to wear, and I&;ll even do your hair and makeup if you want. You&;ll be the queen of the festival, everyone and their dog will want you when I&;m done with you." She winked at her.

"Uh huh, well let&;s start out with something to wear, because most things I look like a whale in. So I hope whatever you picked out, can hide me."

Liza grabbed Henrietta&;s shoulders and looked her right in the eye. "Now don&;t you even go there! You lady are a beautiful woman inside and OUT! And any man would be lucky to be around you. Just because a few lousy men were stupid enough to let you go, isn&;t reason to think you don&;t deserve a little romance in your life. There is someone out there for you, and don&;t you ever think otherwise! You to me!"

Henrietta couldn&;t argue with her friend on this. They have had so many talks about her insecurities about men. She was right, just because a few guys, well all the guys in her life (except Mic) were jerks, doesn&;t mean all men would be the same. She just hadn&;t met any yet. It was easier to just avoid them, before getting hurt once again. But no, Liza was right. She should look at this Fundraiser as a second chance, well more like 6th chance.

"Love you Liza", is all she could say.

"You&;re my sis Rita. I always got your back!"

The girls were giggling again when Mic came walking through the door. "What is going on? I hear lots of yelling from here. Everything ok?"

"Hi Mic, yeah everything is ok. Just two sisters have a small row. I&;m done yelling at Liza now."

"Ok, good. I don&;t want anything to go wrong with dinner tonight. No fighting. I don&;t want my new husband to get the wrong idea about my friends." He headed out the door. "See you at 5, and don&;t forget to bring your dishes."

"HUSBAND????" the girls shouted after him. What the heck happened on his trip!

"Bam! a surprise husband! well this just got interesting. I&;m so glad the girls worked through their argument though. It&;s never good to be angry at family during the holidays!"

Funny enough, the first thing I thought of when I read the last entry with Mic and his "news he needed to share" was 'he found himself a man.'

"Phew, another Monday done. I don&;t know about you, but Mondays are always the longest day of the week! I got my last minute shopping done, so now I just have to bribe CF to wrap them for me. Remember, I got two left hooves..anyway, on to the story!"

It&;s not like it was a surprise Mic was gay. Everyone in town knew it. But he&;s kept his private life, well private. The girls didn&;t even remember the last time they saw him date anyone. So this &;new husband&; bomb he dropped seems way out of left field. It&;s a very nice surprise though.

The girls had to continue with their normal work day, the anticipation of dinner keeping them going. Henrietta had already made mushroom meatballs, and home made mac and cheese as her dishes for dinner tonight. So all she had to do when she closed up shop was run upstairs to drop Spirit off, and grab her dishes from the warmer. "You be good ok, no climbing the tree while I&;m out." He wasn&;t listening, and sauntered off to the bedroom. This was the first time she&;d left him alone in the apartment. She only prayed the place would be in one piece when she got back.

She met Liza, Margo, and to her surprise Jasper at Mic&;s door. He owned a small house about a block away from the main street area. Even though it was small, it had a very pretty yard, and garden in the back. They all admired his holiday decorations around the roof and windows. He had used multi colored icicle lights this year. Very pretty.

"Hey guys!", said Margo. "Mic was so kind enough to let me bring Jasper." She leaned over and whispered to Henrietta. "it&;s our first date!" She grinned at Margo. "&;bout time lady!"

Liza knocked on the door. After a minute, Mic came to the door. He was wearing a god awful ugly Christmas apron. It said &;mistletoe or bust&; on it, and had actual Christmas lights that lit up all over it. Everyone laughed in jest. "Oh good, you are all here. Please come in."

He led them into the dining room. There was a long table set up with a red and green setting. In the center was a beautiful bouquet of red and white poinsettias. There was white and red garland strung around the whole room ceiling, and a chandelier that gave a sparkle to everything. It was so beautiful.

"Please sit sit, and place your dishes on the table on the trivets." Henrietta and Liza sat on the far side of the room, Margo and Jasper sat on the other side. That left Mic at the head of the table, and at the opposite end, one for his husband, who as they sat down, came into the room.

"Everyone, I want you to meet Ray." Standing before them was a handsome looking man with dark hair and blue eyes. Mic had good taste in men. "Hey guys, nice to finally meet you. Mic has told me so much about all of you. Let me see if I can guess who you all are. Liza the pretty blond who runs the coffee shop, Margo the brunette who runs the Shelter, and handsome Jasper the vet. That leaves the bubbly red head Henrietta! This is the best way to celebrate a wedding don&;t you think? I mean, dinner at the holidays with friends and family, makes me all warm inside...."

"Ray, pumpkin, you&;re yabbering again."

"Oh, yeah, I do that sometimes. I&;m just so excited! I don&;t have a lot of family anymore, so having it grow with you guys is just the bestest!"

"Well, we are very happy to meet you too Ray", said Henrietta. "It&;s refreshing to see Mic..well..happy."

"Mic is always happy! At least, that&;s what I&;ve seen all these years." He put his big arm around Mic and gave him a kiss on the cheek.

"Wait wait wait, years? What do you mean years? Mic, have you been holding out on Rita and I?"

"Well, Ray and I met online. We&;ve been talking with each other for two years. I go see him on my trips."

"Yeah, and this last trip, he surprised me with a proposal! It was so sweet. We eloped right there with all the convention people to witness. Best day of my life"

"Ok, Ok, enough talk. Let&;s eat." Mic went to the kitchen to grab the ham he had cooked, and Ray went to sit down.

There was another knock at the door. "Oh yeah! I forgot, I invited my cousin to come join us for the holidays. That must be him. I&;ll get it!"

Mic, Ray, and another tall man came back into the room a minute later. "Guys, this is Jack. Jack, the guys."

"D&;aww it sure seems like Mic and Ray are a cute couple! And how adorable is an elopement! Though I kinda wish I was there, I do love weddings."

"Hey everyone! Had a good day? I don&;t have much time, I&;m in charge of the popcorn machine for movie night tonight. We&;re all watching Elf! you know it&;s based on a true story right? No really it is! Buddy and I are besties. Who do you think taught him how to make snowflakes out of paper? ;) Ok, on to today&;s chapter!"

"Hey." Jack gave a half harty wave.

"Let me take your coat cuz, and then you can grab a seat next to Liza and Henrietta." Liza sat straighter in her chair, while Mic got another chair from the kitchen and placed it on the end next to Henrietta. Jack sauntered over and sat down.

"Let&;s do a round table!" Margo, Jasper, and Liza all said who they were, Liza going into more detail about her shop and the fact that she was very very single. Jack&;s face turned red just a little. "And I&;m Henrietta." She offered her hand in introduction. "I own a petcare shop in town. Do you own any pets? Mic here owns a fantabulous bunny. She&;s the absolute cutest."

Jack took the offered hand and held it a bit longer than a normal handshake. She couldn&;t help but see how blue his eyes were, in contrast to his dark hair and light skin. Boy was he dreamy. "Henrietta is a very pretty name."

"Oh..well..thank you", he was still holding her hand. Liza snorted and lounged back in her chair.

"I don&;t actually have any pets right now. I travel a lot, so it would not have been fair to any animal. Though someday perhaps I&;ll adopt one."

"Oh, you travel? what is it that you do?"

"Jack is a photographer. He just got back from Alaska. Man you should see his photos, they are amazing! He&;s been published in all kinds of books and magazines! I probably have some upstairs, not unpacked yet. When I find them I&;ll bring them around to show you. I tell ya, packing and moving all my stuff in one week has been crazy!" "Hun, don&;t forget to breathe." Mic gave a smirk in Ray&;s direction.

Ray smiled. "heh..I can&;t help it. I&;m just so excited about everything."

Mic started to fill his plate and pass the dishes around. Margo, Jasper, Liza and Ray all started general conversation. Henrietta, who now had her hand back and was placing some green beans on her plate, casually asked Jack what types of photos he took. "Oh, well, I take pretty much anything that catches my eye. Most of my photos that are published though are nature related. I&;ve done a few weddings too, but that was more of a side job for a few friends."

"Fascinating. It sounds like a very interesting job."

"I enjoy it very much. How about you? You sell pet food or something?"

"Oh, well I sell pretty much anything pet related. I have an online business selling my own brand of treats, and I also support the shelter that Margo runs. I foster and socialize animals before they are adopted out."

"Wow, that must be a lot of hard work."

"Yes, and it&;s very rewarding." Her plate was finally filled with the last of the dishes being passed around. Her and Jack continued their conversation, talking about the places he&;d been, and some of the more challenging animals she&;s been able to help.

After a while they both joined in conversation with the others. Turns out Jack was pretty funny. He had some great stories, like this one that started out with him getting caught up in a bull run and then somehow ended up agreeing to heard sheep in the nude the next day. Something to do with a Tea he drank. Henrietta couldn&;t remember the last time she had laughed so hard.

They also learned a bit more about Ray. He was a computer programmer, so he could basically live anywhere and do his job. Made things easier when he married Mic. Sadly, his parents died when he was little. There was a fire in the family home. He didn&;t have any siblings, except that he considered Jack like a brother since they grew up together.

Henrietta really liked Ray. He was a breath of fresh air. She could see why Mic fell for him. He was so genuine and caring, and he made the most delicious trifle! "Yes, well, baking is my hobby. You name it, I&;ll bake it, or at least learn to bake it."

"You know, my grandmother made beef wellington at Christmas, but I never had the chance to learn how. Would you be able to teach me maybe?"

"I&;ve never made one before, but I love a challenge! Let me research it a bit and I&;ll get back to you." He reached over and squeezed her hand. Yup, Ray was a keeper. If Mic ever changed his mind, she&;d snatch him right up! Or not.

Margo and Jasper enjoyed the dinner as well. Bit odd for a first date, to each their own though.

Liza started to describe some of her worst online dates just as dessert finished. No doubt this would go on for at least an hour. Henrietta giggled to herself. This might have be the best friends dinner ever. She almost didn&;t want the evening to end.

"You know, there is nothing like a wonderful evening with friends. They are the people who get you the most. Until tomorrow!"

Sorry for my delay in posting, the power was out for maintenance until a bit ago !

"Err Hey guys, how&;s your week going? Good news is you&;ve made it past the halfway point! Bad news is, I..um...don&;t have a new chapter for you. See, Rodney went a little over board with the eggnog tonight, and I&;ve had to carry him to his stall for the night. I can&;t really be mad with him. He&;s ever so cute when he&;s tipsy :) Enjoy these lovely refreshments in the mean time."

"I&;m here! I&;m just not, all here. Nog is one of my weaknesses and once I started last night, I just couldn&;t stop. I&;m sure you guys understand that. You have one of those things you just can&;t say no to? I&;m sure you can&;t say no to a new chapter, so here it is!"

After a hearty game of charades, where Liza&;s lack of acting was very apparent, (I mean who can&;t act out a scene from Dr Who), Ray had started making some fancy boozy drinks for everyone. Henrietta&;s threshold seemed to be two only, as things started getting fuzzy. She vaguely remembers dancing with Bean Bunny, and maybe a broomstick? Either way she was lying awake in bed now, not knowing how she got home, and the room was spinning.

A grey blur was slowing creeping up the bed, and then whiskers and a nose came into focus. Spirit rubbed his head under her chin and started to purr. "Hey little man. Thank you for the morning greeting." She reached up and scratched his ears. After a few moments she started to reach around her bedside table for her phone. It wasn&;t there. She reached under her pillows as that was another spot she would store it. Nope, nadda. Wasn&;t there either. "Well maybe I left it in the kitchen? or downstairs? Ugg, that seems too far today." She looked at Spirit as she spoke again. "I think today is a non work day, I deserve it right?" He gave a merrr and then jumped off the bed. "Ah. You don&;t really care do you, as long as you get fed." She stretched and then very slowly got out of bed and shuffled her feet to the kitchen.

The room wasn&;t spinning so much anymore, so that was a bonus. With Spirit enjoying his whole can of wet food, Henrietta attempted again to find her phone, coming up empty handed again. The last place to look would have to be the shop. She made her way down the stairs holding on to the wall as she went. Her head had started to pound. "What on earth did Ray put in those drinks!" Finally she made it to the shop and turned on the lights. Jube Jube was squawking away. Oh man, she forgot about Jube Jube. In as much as a rush as she could muster, Henrietta uncovered Jube Jube&;s cage, took her out and let her fly around the store. "You can come back upstairs to eat your breakfast. I&;m not staying here today." She also searched the cash counter, and around the door for her phone but it wasn&;t here either. Heaven forbid she&;d have to use the landline and call Liza.

"Hello, Liza&;s Java Shack, how may I serve you today?"

"Liza, it&;s me."

"Well well, hello drunkypants. How are you feeling this morning?"

"I was not drunkypants. But also, I am not that great. I&;m not opening shop today."

"You were too drunkypants. You lady are a cheap drunk. And we all enjoyed it!"

"Oh god. I don&;t even want to know what happened. However, could you tell me how I got home? and where the heck is my phone?"

Liza was laughing heartily. "Oh Rita, it wasn&;t that bad. I do have some great pictures of you with the coat rack though. I&;m saving those for blackmail someday. You did get a little chummy with Jack. He&;s actually the one who brought you home. As to where your phone is, I&;ve no idea. Maybe you left it at Mic&;s?"

Ah, so not a broom, a coat rack. Not any better. "Hmm I guess I&;ll have to call over then and see if it&;s there. Wait, chummy? What do you mean chummy? Please tell me I didn&;t kiss him and I don&;t even remember it!"

"haha, no, I don&;t think you kissed, unless that happened after you left...hmm...but I mean you were sitting on the couch pretty close and having a good time chatting."

"Phew. Ok, the room is starting to spin again. I&;ll call Mic quick, but then I&;m heading to my couch for the day. If you need me you know where to find me."

"Alright hun. Drink some water and relax. I&;ll check on you later."

Henrietta hung up with Liza, and called Mic&;s flower shop. "Hello, you need flowers, we got em."

"Mic, it&;s Henrieatta. I was just wondering if I left my phone at your place?"

"Hello pretty lady. Yes, I think Ray said he found a phone under the front door mat. I&;ll have him bring it over later. He&;s running an errand right now."

"Oh good, as long as I know where it is. Thanks so much. And thanks again for last night. It was a great evening, of what I can remember."

"It was very lovely yes. I&;m grateful that you all like Ray too. I was very worried. Now, my heart is complete."

"Oh Mic, you never had to worry about what we thought. We love you, and in extension whomever you are with. Ray is amazing and I&;m so happy you found him."

The was a wet kinda grunt on the other end of the phone. "Thank you."

"Have a good day today Sir. Just have Ray let himself in with the spare key when he brings the phone over."

"Ok. Bye lady"

And with that, Henrietta headed back upstairs, with Jube Jube on her shoulder. It was time for a big cup of tea, and a nap on the couch. Her embarrassment and ridicule on Ray would have to wait till she could think better.

"Boy do I know how Henrietta feels. I didn&;t do much today myself. Tomorrow I&;ll have to make it up to CF, again. I seem to keep owing her a lot."

We've all been there :p

IMPORTANT WEATHER ANNOUCEMENT

The intermittent ice storms we&;ve been experiencing the last 3 days has finally moved away from the north pole. Power has been restored. You may resume your regular scheduled work day.

**************************************************

"Oh man guys! What crazy weather we&;ve had eh? So glad the storm has passed on, just in time to finish things before the big night! Can you believe it&;s 6 days!! I&;m can hardly contain my excitement! I almost left tonight&;s chapter at the grocery store..haha."

Sunday afternoon came and went. Henrietta and Spirit did a lot of napping, while Jube Jube had a lot of fun flying around. By the time it got dark out, Henrietta&;s tummy was grumbling. Spirit was looking at her funny, and she started to laugh out loud. "Sorry to interrupt your nap little man. Guess it&;s time for dinner. Are you hungry too?" SQWAAAK "Yes yes your majesty, you can have dinner too."

She opened a can of wet food for Spirit, and placed a bowl of cranberry birdfeed on the kitchen counter for Jube Jube. Then she went to the cupboard to find a can of soup for herself. Tonight would be a mushroom soup kinda night.

As the soup was heating up on the stove, she heard a clunking sound from her front door. She grabbed a spatula and slowly made her way to the door. More clunking and a &;murrfph&;. She reached for the door knob and opened the door quickly sticking the spatula in front of her. "Back off, I have a weapon and I know how to use it!"

A very startled Jack jumped and tripped on the carpet and fell to the ground. "ahhh"

"Oh my goodness! I thought you were a burlgar! I&;m sorry, are you ok?"

"Well other than my pride and my left butt cheek, yeah I&;m ok." He looked up from the ground and noticed the spatula in her hand and smiled. "Interesting choice of weapon. What are you going to do, smack a burglar into submission?"

She giggled, and turned a little red. "Yeah, well it was the first thing I grabbed. What are you doing here anyway?"

"I came to return your phone. Mic told me where the spare key was, I used it to get in downstairs, but then I dropped it, and I couldn&;t see where it went. No light." He pointed to the ceiling.

"Ah, yeah, one of the many flaws of an old building. Here, get off the floor and come in. I got to check on my dinner." She walked back to the stove and pulled her now scolding hot soup off. "Are you hungry? I made soup?"

Jack got up, went inside and shut the door behind him. He was standing in the entranceway unsure of what to do. "Um..no I already ate with the boys. Thanks."

"Ah, well come in anyway. Sit for a few minutes before you head back."

"Alright." He took his boots and coat off and walked to the living room. He admired her tree for a few moments before he noticed something moving in it. "uhh, there seems to be an animal in your tree."

"Oh, that&;s just Jube Jube. Might want to avoid her though, she tends to dive bomb people she doesn&;t know, or even the people she does. haha Have a seat on the couch, I&;ll be right there."

He sat down on the couch, leaned forward and placed her phone on the coffee table. As he sat back something solid was behind him. He turned around and saw a lump of grey floof. "Oh I&;m sorry, is this your spot?" Jack switched over to the next cushion. Spirit watched him for moment, and then put a paw on his arm.

"That&;s Spirit. He was rescued last week from a frozen lake. I&;m looking after him till we can find him a forever home. Looks like he likes you. That&;s one of his ways to ask for attention. You sure you don&;t want a cat right now?" Henrietta sat down on the floor on the opposite side of the coffee table with her bowl of soup and a few crackers.

Jack reached out and started to pet the grey cat. "He seems very friendly, and in great shape for just being in a frozen lake last week. Alas, I just can&;t keep an animal right now."

Henrietta smiled and then proceeded to eat.

"So, that was some evening last night. You&;re very entertaining when you&;re drunk."

Henrietta choked and sputtered on her soup. Her face now turning the shade of a candy apple. "Ugg. I am so sorry for whatever I did last night. I really don&;t remember much. I was going to yell at Ray today when he brought me my phone. Remind me to do that next time I see him."

"haha, don&;t worry, you didn&;t do anything that bad. You&;re a great dancer. Just ask he Coat Rack."

She threw a pillow at him. "Don&;t make me get the spatula."

Now they were both laughing.

As Henrietta ate her dinner, they chit chatted. She asked how long Jack was going to be staying in town, and where his next photo job would be. "Well, I&;m not sure really. I&;d like a bit of a break as I was away for almost a month on my last job. Would be nice to unwind. Figured I&;d stay a few weeks at the least. After that, not sure."

Offering him some gingerbread cookies, he asked her about the shelter fundraiser. "Ray told me it&;s some big doo, but not really what is being done." "Ah, well, there will be a silent auction for items that people have donated. There will be food and alcohol, plus dancing. I think there will be some games for the kids to participate in as well. Margo added one tiny other event, but I don&;t know how well that&;s going to go."

Jack raised his eye brows. "What tiny event?"

"She&;s calling it an auction. Basically, she weaseled some of the single people in town to get all dolled up and prance across a stage so that people can bid on them for a date. It&;s silly really. But she thinks it will bring in a lot of money, and it&;s for charity, so maybe people will be generous? I don&;t know..."

"Oh really? Are you one of the people she weaseled?"

"Well, yeah...not that I&;ll rake in the big bucks. Someone like Eric, the guy who owns the fitness center, who also modelled for a few years, will fetch a high price. I think his picture is on the poster, to try and bring as many single ladies from the city in. I&;m sure it was Liza&;s idea. Just like this auction. I told Liza she had to bid on me so I didn&;t look pathetic standing up there. Ack, that reminds me, I don&;t have anything to wear!" She reached for her phone and started texting.

Jack looked like he was pondering something. "Well, I really should head back. Don&;t want the boys worried I got lost or something." He stood to leave. "Thanks for the cookies, they were amazing. Can I take some for the road?"

Henrietta got up, and walked him towards the door, sad that he was leaving. The evening was so nice and relaxing. It was great having a guy around she could feel comfortable with. "Sure thing." She grabbed a small container off the counter. "It&;s full. Feel free to not share them with the boys." She winked at him.

"Haha, well I might not." Spirit was twining around his legs. "Oh my, someone doesn&;t want me to go."

"Aww he does seem smitten with you." That makes two of us, she thought.

"Well I&;ll come by and visit then shall I." He reached down and petted the grey floof again.

"Sure, anytime." Like to tomorrow?

He took the container of cookies and left. "Careful you don&;t fall down the stairs on your way out," she yelled after him.

Shutting the door, Henrietta looked down at Spirit. "Welp, I guess I scared him off with the talk of the auction. When will I ever catch a break." She picked up the cat and cuddled him close. "At least I still have you. Ya know, maybe you should be a foster fail. You have fit in so well here. Would you like that?" He just snuggled closer and purred.

"Aww foster fails are the best! Man, now I want cookies. I&;m gonna go raid the kitchen. Have a good night folks!"
