I don't get it either, like why would you steep so low to attempt to steal, the scammers I deal with are known for wanting Giftcards that amount to THOUSANDS of dollars, it is utterly ridiculous. The CRA literally put out that they would never do this crap so I don't get why scammers are still doing this besides to get trolled at this point.

It keeps my afternoon entertaining enough.

they do it because they've managed to scam once prior and it's still a workable way to survive. At least that's the logical explanation I can come to. It is entertaining but it's also rather painful to see them ask for or demand for giftcards, items or money.
