i used to not like them when i was younger, but ive seen a lot of really cute clownsonas and i actually really like them these days. i like the fun and friendly colourful designs.
thats beside the point anyways though. since theyre all labelled clown it's kind of a crapshoot any way you slice it. i still think they could all be useful as afro items though.
I definitely want the list to be a group effort so I am always glad to hear all opinions! :) :) If anyone ever disagrees w what I have listed I'm not going to say "well it's my list so there!" So thanks for chatting about it. Here are my thoughts on this, after a long day at work and one (1) beer. :P I am just verbose and rambly so don't take my wall of text too seriously.
It is difficult to make judgment calls in stuff like this because so many hair styles aren't intended as natural/afrocentric and still can "get away" with it, and because of the relative scarcity of curly styles I am pretty lenient about what gets on the list if it can be useful in some way to communicate the avatar is supposed to be a particular ethnicity.
On one hand the clown wigs can definitely work as afro hair, they are the right texture and shape, and they are a color/style combo that isn't available otherwise. I've personally gotten some use out of them for non-clown avatars.
On the other hand that color and style combo isn't available otherwise, and it's a huge bummer to think that the best they can do in that circumstance is a clown wig. Not only clown in the title but the item art has clown faces, so there's no getting around that it's not actual representation. Subeta's not the only place to have this type of problem, for example there have been a distinct lack of dark skin and curly hair options in older Animal Crossing games, and I think they also had the same specific problem of not having curly hair options but they did in fact have a clown wig. And that kind of sucks, when clowns get more representation than my own naturally curly hair haha.
At this point Subeta really has come a long way since I made my list like two years ago! The staff artists have made a point be intentional about inclusivity and representation, and I am hopeful they continue on this trajectory. I mean, have you seen items like ?? I didn't know the artists could make such gorgeous and detailed hair, that actually looks like my real life honest to god actual hair. It was so moving to see these items be released and I hope (and will continue to ask) for more, especially ones that aren't cash shop items so they are more easily accessible to newbies.
Therefore I am fine with just letting them be clown wigs, and at the very least bumping them down to "debatable". We have better items and will be getting more. And I am fine if they stay clown wigs, I feel like the amount of work of re-organizing the names and revamping art would be better suited giving us more new styles to work with. I surely hope they can give us a redeemable wig (or ten! :D ) in that style that isn't a clown reference so we can get creative with the colors ourselves.
And as long as we're throwing our hats in the ring, I love clowns! They're fun and make me laugh and can be very cute and uplifting and I'd love more non-scary clown items on the site because they rule.

I'm Mackenzi and thanks for coming to my Ted Talk lol
Maybe these will come in handy sorry if they're already listed
Thank you for the suggestions !
I just saw available in the CW shop, seems pretty curly.
Thank you ! The list has been updated
Is this "debatable" ?
Forgot to let you know I did a recolor: If you'd like to also add this recolor:
Hey, I just came across this thread and wanted to say: thank you so, so, so much for doing this work. As a black person myself, I've felt discouraged looking up "curls" in the wardrobe search and finding a proliferation of straight, wavy, or curling-iron-curls items (as lovely as they all are), and I can imagine that the feeling is worse for people with tighter curls than mine. This thread is a fantastic resource and I am so happy to have found it.
As a new CW creator as well, this really encourages me to keep making naturally curly wigs – especially tight curls in a variety of styles.
(I made this one – thrilled to see it on here!)
Thank you, thank you. <3
Thanks! & Like most of my "debateables" I'll stick it on the list and see if it still feels right in a few days.
(love your username!) I am so glad it's helpful! Yeah the inability to search for specific hair is one of the reasons I wanted to compile this list in the first place, especially when it was clear they actually started adding more curly hair to the site after it was requested. Sifting thru all hair items for natural curls is just impossible lol. I'm definitely following your CW shop for future updates! Thank you for contributing to the tiny little pool of CW natural curls. :D They're so appreciated! <3
No problem ! As much as I like the lamb wig, I feel they could have really gone in on a more textured style.
Agreed, it's pretty cute but could have used a fuzzier texture, based on actual wool maybe?
That's what I had thought it would be when I saw it. It's still pretty accurate to friends' hair when it's a bit relaxed, but not what my brain would have thought it would look like.
Absolutely, having all these naturally curly hair items laid out like this is so helpful in so many ways, and I know I'll be referring back to this thread a lot in the future. And thank you so much, I appreciate that immensely. <3 I'll do my best! :)
Ah, this thread is a blessing, thank you!
I'm Pacific Islander and finding proper curls can be so tough!

Glad to be of service! ^o^ Yeah when you're just out browsing for curls it can look pretty bleak haha.
look what started dropping as battle loot!

Oh nice, that's an adorable one too, it looks like someone from Whoville haha
Slides in Just skimmed through new wigs to see if any needed to be added for you. New: Recolors:
Here's some I found, not sure if they're on your list already:
Also this line of items is probably not quite as curly as what you're looking for, but the design is still cute:
Thank you for making this thread btw! I have looser curls (somewhere between 3a-3b depending on individual strands) and it's extremely difficult to find items that look like my hair. I can't even imagine how much worse it is for someone with coily hair.
