Where are we on this?
Osterizer do you have further thoughts on what you were planning?
Georgie have you made any final decisions? Are we going ahead? If we are, how exactly should the notes read?

I think we need to do something. Yes. I have yet to hear a great way of doing it though.
I'm still up for helping get this sorted once we figure out the best way to implement it. I'm super overtaxed at the moment though so it would have to wait until later in the month haha.
I'm much, much more available to help on projects for the next two months, so anything you want to throw my way, feel free.
What if we were just to create a list of all of the achievements requiring items, and each achievement is a link to the list of items needed? Would that be easier for us while still being helpful to our users?
It would be a lot easier, but I'm not sure it would the most helpful.
I was thinking about this for a long time before we started to talk about it as a group. The thing that first got me thinking about it was getting an item in my inventory that was wishlisted. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why it was wishlisted and when I went to SubetaLodge to look up the item, there was nothing in its notes or description that suggested why I might have wishlisted it. Not a genetech ingredient or anything else obvious. I wondered if maybe it was a requirement for an achievement, but there was no way to check that.
A list would have helped, I could have looked up the item that way. But I might not have thought of that. Having a note right on the item would have been easiest and most useful.

- Ah, I didn't think about it from that perspective. An item note would be especially useful for that.
Perhaps we need a different field, similar to the item notes? Maybe on our end, a checkbox that asks whether it's an achievement item or not, then an empty box next to it where we can fill in the name of the achievement. On the user side, it wouldn't display anything if we were to check "no", but if we were to check "yes", it would display that it's an achievement item and then show just the name of the achievement, or perhaps the name to link to a list of the other items needed for the achievement.
I like that, seems easier to enter. But could that be incorporated into making a custom checklist? Or a search list - if I wanted to find all the items in a specific achievement?

I think that would be a question for . You know how in the item notes, we can create a link for say the new Subeautique line? I'm wondering if we were to create a new field, like I said above, if that could be a link as well. Then in our search box, perhaps we could add "achievement" as a search option, which would search that new field?
I have no idea how programming works, so this could be completely unrealistic...
Okay so - are we thinking of just adding notes to the items required for achievements along with the achievement name (for example, "Required for/Used in Achievement: NAME") and maybe a link to the achievements page (put in on the part that just says achievement and links to the main page)?
Or something more complicated?
I feel like, if we keep it simple-ish (like above), it's searchable in the notes via either achievement as a whole or specifically by achievement: name as a notes search. It also might help cut back on people blaming us if something gets retired etc because we're not telling them the steps or anything like that, just giving them the note that it is required for an achievement and here's a link to the page where they can search the specific achievement name and see full requirements (use/eat/read/etc) as well as see whether subeta has officially retired it.
I think we better wait a bit, from what it looks like on Twitter and FB, they are changing the layout, including the one of the achievements, so it might be easier to handle all the items - achievements, with links and so on..
Questions to answer: Why are we doing this? Knowing why we are doing it, what we hope to accomplish can help us eliminate paths that simply won't do what we need.
I want to do it for two reasons. One, I want to be able to look up an item in my inventory (name search), pull the item up and see what its used for.
Two, I want to be able to make a checklist for all the stickers that get used in achievements. (because I don't use or collect stickers I have to make a particular effort to buy these for achievements). Plushies and beanbags don't matter as much because I buy them anyway. Clothes - well, LOL I'm a total clothes horse and ALL the clothes go in the wardrobe. So basically I want to be able to make checklists for achievements based on certain parameters.
What do you think is the best way to accomplish the above question?
I feel that an item note can accomplish the above: Achievement item: achievement category, Achievement name.
Pros - we decide ahead of time what the note will be, how to word it. Going from most general to most specific allows the greatest range of making checklists based on the notes. So I could make a checklist for all achievement items, or all plushies that are achievements, or for all items needed to get a specific achievement. Its easy in that it doesn't require any changes to the item entry form or programming bits.
Cons - we have to be very careful in making those notes, now and in the future. Even minor typos will screw up potential checklists/searches. No standardization in terms of drop boxes, all typed in means lots more scope for typos.
Another, more complicated option, but might be better in the long run:
What about something like the weapon form?
We create a new Item Type (Achievement) which then brings up a table we fill in. At some point we decide what info needs to be added, for example - the category in the Subeta achievement page (basic, pets, wardrobe, etc), the achievement name, what you need to do (feed, read, inventory, delete, etc). The only question is can users make checklist based off of this information?
I'm very leery of "waiting" for Subeta to get something done. Anyone wanna come with me for a sit down at the tea house?

:
Bug just released a new layout for the foods eaten page tonight, so I'm going to be updating the mass-add script tonight to reflect the changes.
I have an idea in mind for how I'd like the achievements to work -- doing this right will be somewhat complicated because not all of the achievements are item based, which means we have to have a way of looking up achievements (like "Have a Nightmare Pet") that doesn't work through the usual item search.
Spring break is in two weeks for me, and I'm hoping to make some progress then on how an achievement system might work.
I'm all good waiting until then ❤️
Also - it looks like a stage got missed being carried over on the new survival skins page. Barnacles is an 8 stager but the second to last stage got missed out on the new pages (it's on the old viewing method and it's in the gif, but it just got skipped on this page
Personally, I don't see the need for having things like "have an X COLOR pet" listed at all. Not even sure where we would likst it at all other than maybe on the potioin.
I think as simple as possible is ideal
Mass Add still isn't working for foods apparently. I accidentally cleared my list for my gourmand and I cannot use mass add (not the url or the source code)
Are we doing this or are we just blowing it off?
Personally I think we need to do SOMETHING to get our juices flowing again, as it were. We seem to have become stagnant. No one talks anymore. Nothing is happening other than entering items and posting news. Which si GREAT and what we are here for! But are we going to continue to be more than that or are we tired of it all?
I definitely want to work on this, but need direction.
Osterizer mentioned testing something out, is there more on that?
Are we looking at doing something for all achievements - i.e. basically a how to guide with links etc. or just focus on achievements that require specific items?
Even if we go with a how to guide, I would still want to go to specific items in the database and add a note: Achievement item: achievement name Possibly add (in inventory, in wardrobe, in collection, etc)

- I have two more weeks of school, then summer vacation, which means I'll be around and active more (hopefully). I am all for working on a project!
I think adding item notes to items that are used in achievements would be great. Also, a page (or two or three) that list achievements and link directly to the items used/needed would be super useful.
Me too. Would they need to link to the other titems required for that ach. ? It could become really cumbersome for some of them. Maybe a link to all of them in one? Something to think about
