Hello, bears. How is everyone today?

Despite the myriad tasks that need to be completed around the house I've decided to make today a self-care day, which I'm sure some people (cough) will be glad to hear. I had a terrible day at work yesterday and I've got two very busy days ahead so last night I went out for dinner and drinks with a friend, went to the shops next to the restaurant to pick up a couple of things (and just wander to make sure I was sober enough to drive), slept in this morning, took a nice shower to start the day, and now I'm lounging and considering going out for a quick lunch before I go to physical therapy.

Yea do take breaks if needed. Health/body is first

Don't make Lady Frieda come over there and drug you with her magical herb teas so that you can't even remember if weeks have passed by or not.... Hey thats the ticket, I could have used it this whole month. Hubby had surgery the beginning of April and his been an ill tempered bad patient.

I am so proud of my niece! She's graduating this Saturday with her associate's degree and she's starting a business. She has a webpage set up already.

Aww thanks little one, what unfolded at standing rock was ignored by anyone who could stop it from happening in our country but the rest of the world was watching and they couldn't stop the truth from getting out. We lost the battle with the "black snake" and failed to stop the sludge (tar sand) from being piped under the river , but we did not back down. When the Dakota Access Pipeline leaks and it will, they all do eventually, taking out the heartland, my kids and their kids know I tried with all I had to get big oil to find a better way.

They're coming at us with the new sandpiper route now, which if it's put in will take out most of our ricing land and white fish lakes. It's mapped to kiss the tribal lands of Leech, Cass, White Earth and Red Lake. I get that they want us dead but christ, do they have to make it that obvious?

Morning/afternoon/night Bears wherever you are! Does anybody know when Bird Watching is ending? :o I double checked the news and it didn't say that.

I'm not sure it does, perhaps in winter? Im not sure it really "ended" before, I think people stopped going. Personally I bookmark the links for games like that to find them easier (https://subeta.net/explore/festival/bird_watching.php)

I've never been remotely political, or even environmental about much of anything, I was happily existing in a bubble around "small town america" thinking everythings hunky-dory. This new "era" is a real eye-opener for me. I really miss being totally oblivious to whats being done to the only planet we have, things were much simpler then.

Beyond teaching my kids the legends of our people that stuck in my mind I as their mother fell short -- way short. We as a whole have pulled away from the traditional ways, heading to the grocery store instead of relying on mother earth for much of what we need. We tap trees for maple sap, gather wild rice, mushrooms and hunt and fish (some) but there is so much more that needs to be relearned.

One of the reasons I'm putting everything I have into helping build the main camp at Naytahwaush is to try and correct that. Until we have no choice but to try and keep the Sandpiper pipeline away from our land we're going to start traditional classes to get back some of the knowledge that's been set aside.
