There were various different critters used for the tamagotchi characters, so I suppose any pet species could have been used. Probably just an artist preference thing or how it worked out with the content planning.

Tamagotchi is still a thing, and the more modern versions have dozens of designs, as well as dozens of elements to monitor (books, jewelry, etc.). You can see the visual* difference from the handful of pixels in the 90s to the color backgrounds and distinct features now:

I don't really care that much for it being animated. It is a cute idea, I can see why people like it (or even dislike it), but I'm going to put myself in the neutral corner. It is cute, the artwork and animation are just gorgeous, but I'll probably forget about it within the next few days anyways... XD

I don't think I could personally use this design for anything, but it's pretty cute! ;w; I was not expecting that there would ever be an animated pet, and I didn't even notice that it was animated the first few times I looked at it. XD

I don't want more animated pets - this is perfect and anymore would be kinda... doing it for the sake of doing it, I think.

As soon as I saw this pet I knew I had to have one! I sold my 500 CSC for sP to buy the second pet slot from the MC, and to get an Essence of Melody. Now I have a cute little virtual virtual Keeto named Xixi :3

Just because the Tamagotchi doesn't fit some people's ideas of a pet doesn't mean that it doesn't belong on the site. My inspiration is to make a story where just because she's electronic doesn't mean she isn't a real pet with consciousness and feelings. I have a Storm pet who is fascinated by how electricity powers life, so I want to link her into it. Our brains run on electricity, after all...

I wasn't allowed to have a Tamagotchi as a kid, but I've always loved virtual pets. I'm wondering if the artist was inspired by the Pokémon care system in Pokémon Sun and Moon (IT'S SO CUTE).

I think the animation fits really well, and that a static image might feel kind of lacking. If someone really hates it, they can always use a still image for an overlay. I'm using a still image for her on my profile page, just because it fits better that way to me, but keeping the animation on her actual pet page.

It's pretty clear the pet is a Keeto to me because of the coloring from the common Keeto, and the little scar like the Keetos have. I don't think the aura would have fit, but someone could probably do a custom overlay with one without too much difficulty.

This pet is really creative and adorable, and I look forward to seeing more pet designs like this :)

I definitely want to get my hands on one of these eventually but I can understand why some people are disappointed. Its a very loose definition of pet and definitely the most "out there" Nostalgic so far.

Thanks for letting me know! I guess it could make sense in that it's kind of ghosty, like an ethereal pet.. so it's spirit was in the tamagotchi. :P

This is adorable. I try to add one or two nostalgic pets to my collection every year, and I'll be adding a Keeto as soon as I can get my hands on some instructions...

The instructions also stock at the Thimble & Co. shop, so there will be more copies out there eventually. It might be a while before the price for the instructions goes down to the level of the other ones though, if this ends up being a highly desired pet (like it kind of seems right now).

Got one like a day after. I love love love tamagotchis!! I'm still trying to figure out a plan for him, but I love the subtle lil' bit of animation going. The whole Nostalgic pets in general so far have been awesome art wise!
