YAY! I've had one foreverrr that I have no idea who it's assigned to, and it's the worst. This is so lovely to hear. I figured bringing her/Hydrus back would be a good time to improve it (since it wasn't done when the other - for sure much more serious - issue was fixed).

I feel dumb because I didn't realize she was like 100% gone! That really really stinks... she's actually one of my favorite NPCs XD

I'm wondering if her quests are still going to be an exclusive thing? Like how previously you had to put the map together to access her quests at the island. I like Hydrus being something semi-difficult to get.

I like the irrevocability of her quests and hope this continues. Hydrus is a curse.

The way I see it is if you really wanted a hydrus pet and had access to Merana's quests, you would have gotten the color before the plot anyway. It doesn't sound like something you would mull over like oh I'm going to let this quest rot here for months on end BUT I REALLY WANT THAT HYDRUS PET because that really doesn't make much sense. :x

And if you were planning or indecisive then surely it being gone temporarily (as staff has said they will bring it back) is not going to change much anyway.

I hope that whenever we get the hydrus option back it ties in nicely with the established lore.

I agree with Delirium. Not only am I hoping she comes back for those who want to color their pets, but I REALLY want to see Merana again and whatever development/lore is being built for her. I really, really hope there's more story there and not just "she's evil because reasons." In fact, if she does come back, I'd love to know more about where the spell she was casting during the Omen Islands plot years ago was leading. (Even though I'm still attached to my own theory, see link in signature.)

While it is true that there are such things as curses that affect entire families or villages, usually curses are attached to individuals. Here on Subeta that would be the pet. That the curse is attached to the pet is emphasized by how Merana herself has you pick one out specifically. The pet stays the same person it was before even if it switches accounts, so the curse goes with it and there's no reason to bind it to any account.

If you want your HA to look Hydrus you can mess with NPC Ian's mad science which is not a curse, or dress up in your Wardrobe with various Hydrus items which is even safer. It's not the user who is cursed nor are any of their other pets.

One can only have a single pet cursed at once, and there is no way to cancel a quest once started.

This means that if someone started a quest for a pet, did not complete it and instead put it up for adoption, and I adopt that pet from the pound, use an expensive potion on it to make it the color I want and then decide that I want to change a different pet to Hydrus, I would not be able to without first finishing the quest that I didn't even start/want in the first place. Meaning the potion I used would be wasted, and to get MY pet back to what I want it to look like I'd have to spend even more.

Does that make the issue clearer to you?

I have never understand why bhakorus, bumbusses and hydrus colors dissapear when a pet is put in the pound. I have never sew the need about his fact. shrugs

Anyway. I'm glad to hear Merana will turn back. I would also know more about Kohia a friend from Matlal and Kahaleitzli.

they disappear because to get those colors requires effort and this effort cannot be replaced by money since pets cannot be traded or sold. Allowing them to keep their color encourages rules-breaking. This also trivializes the effort to get those colors, and this makes owners of pets with those colors angry.

when you adopt or foster a kitty in RL you get that pet warts and all with all the baggage of previous owners' doings, seen and unseen. If you adopt a Subetapet from the pound, you get the curse with it and (independently of the curse, but another hazard of adoption in Subeta) you the user personally are also subject to being actually frozen if their petpage is in some way inappropriate and breaks Subeta's rules. Adoption has always been risky.

I understand that the curse costs to fix, but that's the thing about curses they are costly and unfair. Merana is an EVIL goddess. Therefore I don't like your suggestion here that somehow the Adopt R Us can fix that. Users should treat Merana with respect and carefully consider what they are doing before they start. This is part of the understandings of many european styles of magic and fits in with the fantasy/rp. Users should not go 'meh I can undo this by pounding her'. That is not what the pound is for, no more than it is for folks to get effort-colors with ease.

Now, there is no reason that Merana can't be sP-sinky venal and request a donation of say five million to give up her claim on that pet. I would get behind something like that. I would also be fine with the same warning button that asks you how much you are gonna pay for the pet do you really wanna adopt also says that upon closer examination there's a curse mark on the pet do you really wanna adopt. But these aren't really feedback they're Suggestions.

^This all the way. Lore-wise, it makes sense, I don't think it's a good game mechanic. It is just super unfair that you can't drop a quest that you never wanted and it can cost millions to reverse, especially since I don't think you get any warning that you are adopting a pet on the quest. If you did it, then that's your fault, but if you inherited it, then it can be super frustrating.

At the end of the day, it should just be a fun and interesting way to earn a somewhat exclusive colour. It shouldn't be frustrating and bank-breaking, especially if the reason is on somebody else. Lore shouldn't encompass everything in a game, especially because not everybody plays for the lore or cares for it.
