I hope that whatever ends up happening it's not limited like some people are suggesting. I don't mind limited colors, but changing a previously constantly available(as long as you had the map) color to a limited one would not be cool. =/
Edit: Actually, if people really want a Keelhauliday limited color, why not a variation of Hydrus like Harvest is to Glade? I'd like to see an ocean theme with blues and greens, personally. :D

You mean an item sacrifice or someone else?

We literally had 10 years to go and get it easily, there is nothing wrong with something that was easy to get for a decade to be more limited if the lore goes in that way.
Basically why we've been talking about it over Skype and why wanted to make a topic about it. D: Glad replied and cleared it up! There are holidays coming back to back from now until Vesnali and we weren't sure if they'd find the time to squeeze this in due to burnout, or if it's been forgotten because of the holiday hassle.

There's a difference between something being limited but otherwise available year-round for a hefty price (and a big heap of luck), and something being available for 1-2 weeks only with a sidenote of "haha sucks to be you if you can't be here for every holiday. :D :D :D"
If they can make it so you can obtain the blessing year-round for a fee, but it's available during Keelhauliday for free, that's fine with me. It's basically what they did with the genderless robot pets for Masquerade and the genderless berry. If you don't mind waiting to get it for basically free - yay! If you don't mind cashing out, it's still available year-round for a nice amount of sP (and you don't have to get anyone else involved to transfer pets ad nauseam so you can get your hydrus critter). Everybody's happy, the colour is available all the time and Keelhauliday gets a cool little bonus to it. Win-win!
Would also be down for a non-cursed potion variation of hydrus that works with the system mentioned above. :X I doubt Jacques would be too happy if he found out we were peddling his completely-legally-acquired goods to Merana to get our pets cursed, he's still upset about what happened to Amy.
I'm not a fan of the idea of changing it to once-a-year(although it sounds like that won't be the case) or of limiting it to REs(because seriously, I rarely get any RE at all and I imagine it'd be just as frustrating for others, too). However, I don't mind it being made more of an sp sink or being more involved, like doing activities around the site or something. There's no reason the lore couldn't fit something like that; we don't necessarily need Merana to curse our pets, her temple is right there on the island. This is a game, first and foremost; the lore shouldn't take away from the fun of it, it should add to it.
Because the map was totally fair for new users, especially when it was around 45M to complete the set. Yeah, totally fairer than having the color unlimited for 10 days
Since when people actually LIKED having a color locked behind a map?
From what I remember, nobody liked the mechanics of Hydrus (being account tied, the quests being permanent on a pet, until recently, it was impossible to cancel a quest, the items being random means that you could end up with having to spend several millions on a quest...)
This is like saying people like the mechanics of Steamworks taking three days to get.
The Hydrus mechanics were user unfriendly, clunky and were often at the mercy of map oligopols, where a couple users could buy the entire supply of a map piece to gouge prices. The fact that the pets reverted to Common in the pound also made the system even more biased towards buying the map.
It was not fun.
The whole map is a little over 600k right now. I wasn't aware that they had gotten up to 45mil, but clearly something changed. And things being expensive =/= limited. Heck, if you want an angelic potion with sp you're spending way more than 45mil, and I wouldn't call that limited since it's available when you want it.
Regardless, staff has the opportunity to make it more user-friendly now. I'd just rather not see something that used to only be dependent on sp become solely luck or timing based.
Anyone care to call me exactly what happened to Merana? With the site not working for me and being busy with a full-time college schedule, I don't know what happened, and to finally find out I can't use my map for literately the only reason I got it is really, really aggravating, especially between the lack of communication from staff overall that's been going on.
The most recent plot that just happened like last month took place on the Omen Islands. At the end of the plot, we accidentally broke the spell that was keeping Merana contained to the island. So now she's escaped and is wandering around who knows where around Subeta's waters, so she's not currently at her temple on the island.
According to staff, there will be a way to get hydrus pets again in the future. We just have no idea what that will be yet, or if Merana is coming back or setting up somewhere else or what. We'll have to wait and see.
Okay thanks, I appreciate it! Hopefully it's just a move to make hydrus attainable the usual way, just without the map, or something (or her just... taking a vacation, I guess). :( Though the fact it's been over a month - with I (assume) to further mention - doesn't exactly... feel the most comforting.

My post was mainly a joke. Like the whole sacrifice an npc sort of deal.
On a more thread-related comment, I don't mind this being unavailable for a time being (personally I do wonder how many people that NEED a hydrus pet RIGHT NOW would have been seeking one if this had not happened). They aren't retired, and pet colors aren't always available and easier to get (Hell, not everyone could get one as it HAD ITS LIMITS). I actually have a feeling this is going to make it more available, though it could also make it more expensive (I remember back when I first joined a lot of people complained that it was too expensive to finish her quests). The site has already decided on what they are going to do, there's really no point in suggesting anything. And I am excited to see what's to come.
There is always a point in suggesting stuff! Bob the Fishing Ontra was actually her 2nd in command and his disappearance was him preparing to set her free!!! WHOA WHOA THERE
I really hope this gets resolved soon. I was hoping there would be a way to obtain hydrus normally after the plot, but we're still waiting on it...
(I don't need it personally, but it's an unnecessary wait for people that spent the money to unlock it.)
Yeah, they said it would come back, but this timeline seems more stretched than I would've guessed.
Also putting my standard "please give us a way to drop her quests for the love of all that is good" 2 cents in. Or at least show us -what pet it is for-. At least the whole 'pets keep their quests even in the pound/after adoption' thing got fixed.
