hi there! Im currently at work so im a bit limited on the help right now, but the pearls might be able to use a biiit more round shading!

Similarly the rose needs a bit more too - subeta's light source is top left, which means the left petals should have a bit more highlights compared to the right side. I did a super quick (mousepad yay) example in case this helps n_n

What do you need help with ---  The overlay is a complete redraw because of the long list of denial reasons I got, so I just want to know if my new version is any better, and what I may need to change if not. The original pose wasn't working for me, so I redid it. I also redrew and recolored parts of the CI as well. When I saw the list of reasons for denial, I almost gave up on it entirely. However, I really liked the idea, so I tried again. ;) Thanks for any advice you might be able to give me. <3

• ITEM and OVERLAY: Artwork does not match Subeta style, quality, or level of detail in general • ITEM and OVERLAY: Blunt/untapered lineart • ITEM and OVERLAY: Thick or heavy lineart • OVERLAY: Flat due to details being shaded individually without taking the entire form into account • OVERLAY: Pillow shading • OVERLAY: Ambiguous shading/light source unclear • OVERLAY: Shading is too faint • OVERLAY: Not enough layers of shading (Subeta artwork should have 3-5 layers of shading) • OVERLAY: Gradient or soft shaded instead of cel-shaded • OVERLAY: Color bleeds and/or stray pixels • OVERLAY: Anatomy or perspective issues • OVERLAY: Overlay perspective conflicts with the 3/4 angle of the avatar base • OVERLAY: Does not sit properly on avatar base • NOTE: There are a lot of artistic issues with this that need to be addressed, but the main one is that it is very obvious that one wing was drawn and then mirrored to be on the other side. This just doesn't work. The shading and shape of the wing were not adjusted, and it is very face-on rather than 3/4ths. Overall this is going to need a lot of work, and I highly recommend teaming up with a more experienced CW artist for some in-depth personal critique!

Okee so the new version definitely looks better -- there's no more color bleeds, the lineart might still be a bit too thick though! As for light source, you can easily fix this by making the right side a bit darker and adding a few highlights on the left.

I did a quick GIF but im really not an anatomy person -- perhaps or could help a bit with shading of feathers? I cant shade feathers to save my life lol ;;;;

Thank you, that is really helpful advice! I just have one question, should I layer over my existing shading with a more transparent layer like you did? Or update the layers I already have/add more opaque layers? I'm sorry if my question is confusing, I think we might have slightly different shading techniques. I also think it is a little confusing because I couldn't figure out how to upload my actual .psd file, as it is not listed as an option on the upload site I used.

The extra definition you gave the feathers looks really nice, though! It definitely looks less flat on the side on our right, I had be struggling at bit with that. I am a little scared that I won't be able to make it look as nice as you did. ;)

however most comfortable you are! Since I only had the png I just painted over, but you could work on the layers you have instead n_n

And pshhh im sure you can! Wings are not my forte -- come to think of it, out of over 1500 cws ive drawn I dont think even one of them are wings ahaha

I tried out the transparent overlay and I think it came out nicely. :D Tanzanites have purple and blue hints, so I think it might work.

this looks better! (Our) right side of the wings could be overall a bit darker (especially near the gap between the arm and the back of the arm because it seems a bit too light ;; )

Same for the CI, the right side of the feather looks a bit too pale - it should be darker to emulate the top left light source!

I dont know if you added the shadows on a new layer, but perhaps you could make it a tad lighter -- it's just becoming a tiny bit too dark! Sorry haha ;;;;;

Overall the overlay definitely looks better! The shadows you added on the CI have increased the 'soft shading' of the feather but you can easily fix this by adding one layer of shadow in between and some backlight to compensate the whole thing being increasingly darker.

Haha, finding that balance is tricky! I wasn't sure if you were referring to the overlay or the CI being too dark, or both, but I toned down the overlay a little, and I took your suggestion with the CI: Overlay / Custom Item

Thank you! I appreciate your help and patience with everything so much. :D You have done so many amazing CWs, I trust your judgement. I know the process varies sometimes though, so I guess we will have to wait and see. I will get a male version of the overlay ready and try submitting again. Hopefully if anything needs to be fixed this time, it will be an easier fix. ;) Since you helped me a lot with the shading, do I also give you credit when I submit the CW? I just wanted to double check, I wasn't quite sure how that worked. xD
