I have created a new PING group pertaining to helping WildLife in general! - JOIN - - And read the description! Thank You <3

So, Where I live more and more of the forest is being cleared out. Leaving less space for the bears to go, as well, a very poor Spring last year left them with little food. On top of that, everyone goes into the bush and picks all of the blueberries that are left so unfortunately the bears have had to keep moving in order to find food.

As a result, the people building, eating what little food they have, etc. are putting people in danger and now they want to put the bears in danger...

My Province, and city have decided the best way to take care of it is a spring bear hunt. Rather than take care of a problem that they (the humans) caused this is what they have decided.

Not only will this leave many bear cubs orphaned and wondering around there is evidence to show that it for some reason is bringing in MORE bears.

I have a link with very important info regarding the bears lives, their habits, and how they ACTUALLY act, rather than the monsters some are making them out to be.

And at the bottom of the article, you can vote NO to the bear hunt. Please help me in sending a message to my city that there are people out there that disagree with them and actually care about the animals that can't speak for themselves!

I'm with you ! People need to quit killing as a solution to all of our problems and look at humane alternatives. This (killing) can lead to extinction of a natural predator, which has time and again proven to weaken the ecosystem. Good for you for spreading the word on this awful practice and advocating for the bears! <3

Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately I ran into some, less than caring individuals regarding it in the SB... it's nice to hear a thoughtful perspective! <3

People close their eyes to the damages we cause our environment on a daily basis. It seems that for many, if something doesn't affect them personally and immediately, then it doesn't matter.

Unfortunately, in some places the spring hunt is necessary. As one of the northern wilderness of Ontario, the spring bear hunt is a good thing. Where I am from the forest is not being clear cut and the regulations of the hunt is enforced. Over population of the bears, an apex predator is controlled by human and natural food sources. However starvation is NOT a fun thing to think about. Those who hunt are not all about trophies. Bothersome bears are relocated when they can be. But sometimes there are repeat offenders and they are moved to sanctuaries such as Bear With Us. Or zoos. Some bears who pose a threat to people's safety, such as ones who have killed humans are shot. because they are considered dangerous. Like when humans kill humans. The spring bear hunt, like the fall bear hunt is NOT cruel, but helping manage the population. Just like the Deer hunt. The only reason there are two bear hunts is again, nothing challenges a bear but humans.

I hear ya. It happens a lot. I think it is a survival technique for some. There is nothing wrong if you can't bare to think of some things because they make you angry, sad, etc. It is just the people that are outright bent on hurting someone/something that I will never get.

I feel like this topic in particular bothers me because it is so obvious that it is caused by; 1. Nature (poor Spring, not yielding enough for the animals), 2. The People/Big Business. Going for the short, fear-based answer is just not smart without putting a lot of thought behind it.

I am not against hunting in general... when it is necessary for a family's survival.

I am talking about the ones who shout, 'here-here'! because they just want to go out and kill something.

For example in the Arctic, it is all they have and it has been family tradition for centuries. As well, I believe wild meat is likely healthier than the meat we get in our grocery stores from factory farming. I just don't believe in hunting for sport.

I have heard many a story of a town being very resourceful and stopping the bears from getting into their suburbs, etc. (around people) without doing any killing. I'll try to find articles on that.

The Ministry of Natural Resources stopped doing a lot of things from around where I live. I am not sure as to whether it is because there is a lack of funds or what. But, again, the way things played out... at least where I'm from, there is no welfare for the wildlife being talked about, at least not in the public media.

And it does not seem as though they have factored in the bear population. I have been to a couple of seminars about it and this is what I keep hearing.

I have lived here all of my life. I have encountered a bear while biking in/near the bush once some years ago. Last year though, I have heard more and more are being spotted by other people. And for the first time since that one I saw a long time ago, I witnessed a small black bear cross the highway in front of me. My first thought was not my well being, because I know they are not after me. It was just sadness for the animal because why would they put their lives in danger unless they are starving?

Ultimately, is there anything wrong with wanting to preserve the animals around us (mainly from humans, I'm not talking about nature)? They are all part of our ecosystem, which we are part of.

Hey bear, I'm invading your space and I shall kill you bc you seem scary. Awesome logic.

I've met several bears in my life because I'm a curious thing and I love hiking. Still waiting to be mauled by one of them "predators".

I just can't get behind the act of murdering animals because of humans. If we go with such logic, we should select humans and kill them because we are overpopulated? An animal did not sign up for this shit tbh.

Sooo many people have voted NO in the last day that the percentage has finally gone up in our favour. I honestly have no idea how much leverage this little 'Poll' holds. But I know it will at least send some kind of message to those looking. I am on a local FB page that I think I will eventually share it with where there is an MP (Member of Parliament) that frequents there. Not sure, but I hope it at least opens people's eyes.

I know there are plenty of others in my municipality that feel this way about the bears, it is just finding them that is hard to do.

So far, I am part of a 'Save the Black Bears' page on FB and they have fueled a lot of this positive energy towards a more thoughtful alternative to help everyone, including the bears.

Thank you to all those fellow animal lovers here in Subeta who have helped! ❤ ❤ ❤

I voted no dear!

I totally understand hunting when it is 'necessary' or otherwise 'for safety'. I do not understand people who hunt purely for their own pleasure, who hunt them down THEIR territory. If they are home and they don't hurt anyone, why chase them? So many animals have seen their natural habitat drastically reduced due to humans.

And we still do not learn x.x

I voted no yesterday... just didn't have the time to leave a comment.

There's black bear sightings in certain parts of Central Florida. I've never seen one story about humans killing them. The bears always leave on their own. So, I think the bear hunting is unnecessary, especially since it was humans that destroyed their natural habitat.

Goddamnit, why do so many people think the answer to everything is to fucking kill it?! Dumbasses. Good to see the NO votes are winning anyways. At least some people have some sense. Does no one realize it was the bears' land in the first place and it's us dumbfuck humans that encroached on it?? Animals were here first, not us. We're just squatters.

I hope many more people say no here. I only stumbled over it through friend feed, I am not much around in the chit chat forums normally. Perhaps there is a way to get even more votes in another forum? ^-^
