"Me dad says its amusing to him that the Wiggenweld Potion seems to be easier to make than the draught of living death. He said he'd thought it was the other way 'round. Told me if it came ta a really bad transforming, he would use the draught of living death on me until I was healed. We have both in our potions storage at 'ome." As too the griffin... well he just petted Dax. "Whoa there," he said laughing, "baby steps on the griffins, k? You got a green'ouse too Aderyn? Me dad has one, lets me over-see a lot o' our plants now. Though 'e's got some locked up and I can't see 'em. Don't know if their for 'is work or what." He checked his wand's timer and waved the heat off.
Aderyn nodded to Magnus ().
"My dad keeps a hothouse full of plants he uses in potions and other remedies. We have a big garden, too, where we grow a lot of our own fruit and vegetables. It's really nice in the summer time. I'm quite gifted with plants thanks to my part-fae heritage, so dad lets me handle a lot of the gardening. St. Mungo's has a hothouse where they grow the really dangerous stuff, so dad doesn't have to keep any in our garden."
"That's so cool. I wish I could see the plants they grow at Mungos! Me dad gets all quiet or talks mysteriously and creepy-like some times. I asked what 'e was growin' and 'e said 'plants.' When I asked what kind, 'e said, 'plants that you will never see, and will do best to forget about. They are secured if you want to waste your time trying to break in, be my guest. But if you 'appen to touch a portkey, don't complain at the month's long walk to get back 'ome.' So, ya know, I 'aven't bothered wif them since."
()
Aderyn pondered what Magnus had said, thinking of all the plants that she knew of and coming up empty on what might possibly be grown under such lock and key. Even though she wasn't to go near the plants St. Mungo's had, she knew what they kept, so she was at a total loss as to what Magnus' dad might have.
"Wish I could think of anything he might have, but I can't imagine anything as dangerous as what he's making it sound like he's got. Maybe we can check out the restricted section in the library one of these days to see if we can find some information there!"
"Dunno. Couldn't tell if 'e was jokin' or not. Part o' me thinks 'e knows I've got a penchent for troublemaking and was just trying to make sure I don't muck with a plant like Devils Snare or something... the other part makes me wonder if 'e's got something super rare for the Department of Mysteries. But if 'e was serious then those plants might not even been in the restricted section. Did you know Unspeakables could get a one-way trip to Azkaban for breaking secrecy on what they do? An' something things they've even taken unbreakable vows. Whatever they do if its that serious...I'm not sure if even I wanna be snooping around. I do wonder 'ow they get recruited though."
()
"Hmm, I've never even really thought about it. Maybe they're picked from pools of Aurors, or selected for their above-average skills in certain disciplines? Who knows, maybe one day they'll come and try to recruit you - maybe it's a familial thing?"
"I think you're right. 'E was in Ravenclaw an' Mum told me 'e got tons of awards when 'e was at 'Ogwarts an' was the 'Ead Boy. One 'o 'is coworks seems to know an awful lot of healin' magic and another one is 'orribly scared like 'e was an Auror or something."
Gaia had been so focused on her potion that she almost missed the conversation "What potion?" Gaia was sort of listening but going over her notes and the board. "If you need Herbology club to grow something let me know. I can check the supply of seeds." Gaia smiled briefly as she went back to her potion watching the flame that went a little too high in the second she got distracted.
( )
"Would you want to be an unspeakable if they came to recruit you? Their work is so mysterious and undoubtedly highly dangerous. I don't know if I could handle it if it was me. I've got no courage to speak of."
She spied working out of the corner of her eye and yelped a little as the girl's potion overheated a tad.
"Careful! Who knows what'll happen if you heat it too much. You might wind up growing hair out of your nose or something!"
Magnus thought carefully for a few moments before replying. "I guess it'd depend on partly what I did. I expect they wipe your memory if you say no. I really wanna be a 'ealer. If I gotta do that in someway either with the job or before than yeah it could be kinda cool. Dad seems to like it. I dunno about that Aderyn, sometimes the bravest thing is to think carefully about things and not rush in. Plus you never know 'ow brave you are till you or someone you care about are at risk. I think that's when people learn who they are and not what 'ouse they were in at school."
"That's very wise. I did come across a quote in a muggle television program once when I was at a friend's house. It was something to the effect of Live with a man 40 years. Share his house, his meals. Speak on every subject. Then tie him up, and hold him over the volcano's edge. And on that day, you will finally meet the man. I think that's along the same vein - you never really know who you are until you're put in that kind of situation, one way or the other."
He nodded. "Exactly. You can think you'll do something or act a certain way--prepare for it in all the simulations you want, but until you're there you just don't know. "
((ooc: Firefly! fangirl Squeeeee -coughs- I mean excellent quote-))
"That puts a new spin one chance favors the prepared mind. All the book knowledge in the world wouldn't help in a dire situation, I suspect. Kind of makes me wish I was Gryffindor instead."
She pulled a face and shook her head, laughing.
"Nope, no it doesn't. I'm a Ravenclaw, through and through!"
((OOC: Heck yes Firefly! <3 Best show ever! I may or may not be forever in love with Simon.))
Magnus shook his head slightly. "I don't think I'm brave at all. Rash, maybe but brave..." Laughing he then said, "both me parents where in Ravenclaw. Very smart people you lot are."
((OOC: I know right? oh, he's -drool- I actually met several of the cast members for Firefly at DragonCon, got a hug from Adam Baldwin. Dude, he's toned ;) ))
"Bravery isn't the absence of fear, it's the respect for it and the overcoming of it. I think that between the two of us, our combined knowledge and other qualities would do us a load better than either of us could do alone!"
((OOC: I've met Nathan Fillion a few times, he was born in my hometown and was best friends with my high school drama teacher, so whenever he came to town he'd come by the school to say hello to a bunch of us fans and it was awesome lol. I was supposed to meet Sean Maher once, but he cancelled his appearance due to a scheduling conflict at that Con and I was so so sad.))
"Maybe that's why so many jobs pair us with others and use our talents with others."
((ooc: aww that's bummer about Sean, but really awesome about Nathan!))
"Makes sense. It's easier to watch someone else's back than your own, so being paired up is good for that!"
She turned down the heat on her cauldron as her timer ran out and she took the cauldron off of the flames, setting it aside. She looked down at the potion in the cauldron, admiring the glossy, murky green color of it. Looking around, she motioned for Beth () to come and take a look.
"Does this look right to you? It's hard for me to tell if it's the right shade in this dungeon lighting. I've only ever brewed it at home with my dad in a room with a glass atrium, so we have lots of light."
"Yep, always best to have people watch your back." He waited for Beth to come around by way of drawing out the steps and put pictures in it.
Gaia smiled "that wouldn't be as bad as loosing my potion completely!" she said to Aderyn. ()
