Yay, glad to see you! Take it steady during recovery and heal well. :)

Now, that is an awesome pet name, congrats!

Terry Pratchett was inspired. Death and the Witches are my favourites. Everyone needs the wisdom of Granny Weatherwax.

So many great characters. Susan versus Mr Teatime! And I was always fond of the Librarian and the Luggage. Even the trunk had personality!

I know what you mean, but they are helpful for getting stats a bit faster. And I still need some of the achievement tiers for completing them.

Also if you're going for even stats, I'm pretty sure T9 is at ~1350 for each one.

Thanks! I'm very happy with it. 😊

Good luck with the chili cook-off!

- Yes! I remember the Fuzzies book! XD I need to re-read that one sometime but first - I seriously need to get back on re-reading HP! I was doing so good before I went to visit Kupy! I'm about halfway through Goblet of Fire so I'm doing good but still a long ways to go.

I'll do that this morning - get my questing done and then read. This afternoon we've got a work event, they're hosting a family day up at a Nashville Sounds baseball game. I've never been to a baseball game before and neither have my kids so it should be fun. :)

How's everyone's sharky Saturday going?

I should start re-reading them soon while I have some time. I'll probably work on it over the summer.

Ah, baseball games are super fun! Even if you don't necessarily like the sport or watching it on TV, something about the atmosphere at the actual field is just great. I hope you guys have lots of fun, that's exciting!

- Yes! Summer is great reading time! :D What do you think you'll read first?

And yes, that's what our HR girl said - even if you aren't really into the sport itself, it's a great people-watching opportunity and it'll be good to see (some of) the people from my work outside of the professional setting. We'll see how the setup is once we get there, but I think we'll have a great time!

Also I'm not good at following my own directions because I started questing, decided to vacuum and steam clean the living room carpet and dyed my hair - now I'm questing while I wait for the dye but THEN I will read! Haha

I'll probably start with HP and then maybe throw in LotR too, if I have the time. That might end up covering most of the summer, depending on how busy I end up, but if I have more time I'll probably try to start reading some of the books on my list that I haven't read yet.

I haven't been to a baseball game in a while, but I used to love going as a kid. My dad's company would do similar things too, like invite employees and their families to some of the games. That was always great, so I'm sure your kids will have fun if there are others their age to hang out with. It can be an awesome time!

Haha, at least you were being productive though!

Thanks for the stickers :)

Baseball games are super fun. It's especially great as a kid because Mom wouldn't complain about us eating unhealthy food haha. My dad is a huge sports fan, and I've inherited that love. My boyfriend's dad sometimes gets us tickets through friends that still work out here. I actually really like chilly games because I get to have hot cocoa and chowder haha. Hope the weather is good for you guys!

- Woo! Sounds like you've got some good books lined up! :) I've been enjoying re-reading HP, just got distracted from it. There are so many small details I've forgotten about since my last time reading! And yeah, productivity has to be taken advantage of when I have the urge to do things because I have a hard time making myself do things when I don't want to. XD

- Aww, it sounds like you have some awesome memories at baseball games! ^_^ Also that's awesome your boyfriend's Dad gets you tickets sometimes through work! Our typically have hockey tickets to hand out from time to time and those are really fun games to go to, but I'm glad they changed it up a bit and decided to go with a baseball game - feels much more spring-time appropriate! It's supposed to be sunny and 85, great weather as long as I remember my sunglasses. :D I love the background you have on your HA!

Yeah, I've only really ever read them all completely about once each. There have been a few times when I went back to read a particular passage or chapter again, but I think it will be nice to reread since it's been so long. And like you said, so many details and things not covered or even changed in the movies (I watch those all the time), so yeah that's why I want to reread them.

And I wanted to reread The Hobbit, because it's been years since I last read that even though I did see the recent movies. So I might as well reread the rest of LotR as well. And maybe watch the movies again. :P

Weather sounds like it will be nice too, that's great! Hope you have an awesome day. :)

Thanks! Sounds like perfect baseball weather. Hockey is so much fun too, but at this point in the year, we're well into playoff season so baseball seems more appropriate. It's gross and cool and rainy here (still). It's hard to believe we're already a month+ into spring when the weather has been crap pretty much the entire time!

I obsessively reread HP for a while so I picked up on a lot of the little details. The movies didn't do anything for me because they left out so many things that I was looking for. I watched the first and last movie in theaters, and streamed the rest before watching the last installment. I have friends that rewatch the movies regularly. I reread the books instead :)

Yeah I can understand that. I used to be disappointed when movies based on books would be so different or leave things out, but now I've just come to accept that they will be different and even if they do remain mostly faithful, realistically they just can't include everything or it would be like a 5 hour movie. I just appreciate both for what they are.

Although I will say at least in The Hobbit's case, they really didn't need to stretch that as much as they did. I know they were trying to put in some extra stuff to connect it more to the later trilogy and the rest of the universe that Tolkien had established, but I felt like it didn't really work that well. A bit disappointing, because I actually thought the actors were all great, and I noticed a lot of the dialogue especially in the first movie was actually pretty faithful to the book. I could have seen them maybe splitting it into two long movies, but three was a bit too much. /sorry for the rant

For the most part I can handle it, but I was so young when HP first came out that it was incredibly disappointing to see them leave out tidbits I really liked.

I never read the Hobbit, but my dad has and LOVED it. Didn't they add in some stuff from the Silmarillion? I never really understood why they split such a small book into 3 movies, especially when the second movie basically never had any resolution and then the third movie was the proper end to the second movie plus a big battle.

I hate the trend of splitting one book into two or three movies. In the case of the Hobbit, two movies would make sense. Three was a stretch. But for the majority of movies, splitting the final movie into two parts and waiting a year between releases is just a means to get us to pay up to see the conclusion. They've left out enough in the first installments and then decide to be faithful at the end. I don't even MIND long movies. If the pace is good, I don't care if I'm in the theatre for 2.5+ hours as long as the movie is actually a close adaptation to the source material. Ugh drives me crazy. /my own little rant. I have very strong opinions on book/movie adaptations haha

I do remember it being a bit disappointing, but that's why I want to read them again. So I can remember and enjoy the parts like that!

I read The Hobbit for the first time for school when I was about 12 or 13. I loved it back then, if you like fantasy it's pretty good. The tone is a bit different from the LotR trilogy though, because it was originally written more for children/younger readers. I've heard that yeah, they did try to add some stuff from The Silmarillion, although I haven't read that one myself yet. But they also included too much stuff from the elves and even created that girl elf that didn't even exist in anything originally. I think two movies would have been sufficient though. The first for establishing the problem and showing the buildup of the adventure, maybe have them getting stopped by the elves in the end of the first one to create some suspense. Then the second movie would be getting to the Mountain and the battle and all of that.

I agree about that though, especially when the books themselves don't have a whole lot of material that even makes for good screen time. Harry Potter was like the first one to do that "split the last book into two movies" thing and then everyone else copied it. But I've heard in the case of ones like Twilight or Hunger Games, the first part of the last book was not very eventful, so they probably could have cut out a bunch of that and still made a decent one movie conclusion. Also the need to turn every young adult series that even becomes mildly popular into huge movies. Harry Potter was like insanely popular, and while it's true that stuff like Hunger Games and the Divergent series were also popular, I don't think they were anywhere near on the same level really. But they got movies anyway.

I was so mad when I realized the female elf wasn't canon. Why does everyone need a love interest?

Two movies would have been perfect for the Hobbit. The first movie was great, but they definitely could have condensed part of it so they could combine the second two movies.

I hated the Twilight books (actually ripped them apart for an English assignment in undergrad. That was fun haha) but I watched the first movie just to see what it was like. Hated it, so I didn't watch the rest, but not much happened in the books so I can't see how splitting that up went haha. Hunger Games was a trilogy and should have stayed as such. The first half of the third book was all set up, so it was a very boring movie. They really just should have set up the movies differently so the second and third books were split into two movies but not necessarily along book lines. It would have made for much better movies.

The Hunger Games and Divergent series I don't mind as much (provided they don't completely change the plot in Divergent), but I didn't understand WHY Twilight and 50 Shades got movies. There was no goddamn plot in the first, and the latter was a fanfic gone SO wrong. I get that there is a lot of money in film adaptations of books, but I'm dying for some new movies that are based on less popular but more inventive books.

I was so upset with the film and TV adaptations of the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. I won't say that they're the best-written books (they're not), but the story is different and could have been really good. Instead it's another film that the fanbase prefers to pretend never happened. I actually much prefer the prequel series (especially because it's set in Victorian England which is just such a rich environment), so hopefully that doesn't get ruined with a screen adaptation.
