Magnus beamed and high fived Beth. He seemed pretty good with charms. Heck, Charms was one of his best subjects.

"Protego Horribilis? What does that do? The others seem self explanatory, but that one I can't figure out."

[img align=left]http://i.imgur.com/ewypPQR.png?1[/img] Beth replied, "Protego horribilis is used to protect an area against highly Dark Magic. Any dark magic is rebounded by the shield that is conjured. It's not really a shield charm used during duels but rather in battles."

", are you ready to use the shield charm against 's spell? You can try using one of the other versions of the shield charm if you like."

", I think it's time for you to practice the shield charm against Rowan's () stunning spell."

"Everyone's been doing a great job so far. We'll be learn a couple more spells later today. If anybody would like to teach a spell to the club, please let me know," Beth announced eagerly.

() "Sure thing! We have used most of the protego spells at home. Dad has trained me on the spells using twigs. He said I always needed to be prepared, but never taught me to attack!" Gaia though it would have been helpful to learn about defensive spells when coming to Hogwarts but her dad didn't want to teach her.

She turned to and shouted, "Stupefy!"

"Protego!" waving her wand sharply and bracing herself she saw as the red light hit her shield with sparks. It was a little too close for comfort though. "I guess I should be paying more attention!" with a smile she shouted "Stupefy!" pointing her wand at Poppy.

() Gaia smiled. "Some times... I had to get used to it with my owls. Sometimes the wild animals would try to get in so my dad would use magic and I would have to close the gate to the owls house. He said it would help me learning to do things without magic. I guess his reflex lessons worked! Wanna keep going?"

This is my first time hearing about some of them, let alone casting them on people. I feel like practicing the Stunning Spell is great stress relief. It looks rather pretty against the Shield Charm too."

"Protego" said Hannah quickly before Deme said "Stupefy," each going back and forth. Then they heard Beth(), mention a few new spells to protect and tried to do them as well. Hannah would try to add in new spells to keep stuff interesting like locomotor and Avis, while Deme would use Protego Maxima and Protego Horribilis.

Magnus had to admit he was really good with charms so he started with that, waved his wand in the motions Beth indicated and within a few moments he felt he could probably try.

The smoke screen spell could be useful when he wanted to play pranks or wander off. He practised the swirl motion and kept thinking in his head Fumos. When he felt he might be ready, he started drawing the spells and wand movements in his ever present sketchbook.

Aderyn listened carefully as Beth gave them new instructions on two new spells. She was familiar with the disarming charm, having practiced it in defense against the dark arts class at one time, but she'd never tried the smokescreen spell. Muttering the incantation quietly to herself to cement it into her head, she practiced the swirling hand motion a few times. She stepped off to the side, wanting to practice a few times on her own before soliciting another student's help with practicing in pairs.

Practicing the hand motion a few more times, Aderyn was fairly confident that she had it. Finally, she waved her wand properly, this time calling out the incantation.

"Fumos!"

As she performed the spell, several wisps of smoke shot from her wand and hung in the air around her. The smoke wasn't very dense and wouldn't be overly effective, but she was satisfied with her first try - at least something had happened.

Turning to Magnus, she asked, "Would you like to try the Smokescreen Spell?"

Aderyn smiled as Beth () lauded her effort.

"It took me a while to get decent at the stunning spell, but this one somehow seems more intuitive."

Focusing back on her work, she practiced the wand movements again a couple more times, trying to iron out the little kinks in her technique.

Magnus finished drawing just as Beth asked if he wanted to try. Eagerly he nodded. Stowing his book and pencil, he started waving his wand in the swirl motion and said "Fomus," which set several sparks into the air and mad him jump in surprise. He realised he said the spell wrong and tried again, "Fumos." nothing happened for several tries. So he practiced the spell in his head whilst making the motions. "Fumos," he said in his mind, "fumos." Suddenly smoke billowed out around him. Magnus stood there in shock, he hadn't said it outloud.
