GODDAMNIT I WANT THIS SO BAD NOW.

(also i never saw atlantis - the lost empire, but the concept ideas make it sounds so great, lorewise)

Atlantis the Lost Empire had it's own ALPHABET MADE. I love Disney's Atlantis, man.

Mannn now I'm wishing the bright colors of Dia De Los Muertos had been incorporated.

tbh when i first saw the name i thought of shenkuu too lmao. but it's not like the name means something offensive (contrary to what "subeta" means in japanese rofl?) so i think it's fine. people who do find the name offensive should honestly just get off the internet or something because there's seriously nothing wrong with having real chinese words as a name for something on a website.

but i just really really do appreciate that staff decided to introduce this land. like many have said, there's just so much untapped potential - from foods to fashions to maybe just maybe subeta versions of lunar new year or midautumn festival? oh gosh this is all too awesome.

I've never played Neopets. But I don't really care if Subeta copies them (although I really don't think they are) because Subeta is better and more adult, etc. Like we don't get banned for talking about being gay, which is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Neo :P

Personally I'm in love with the idea of this new land and I can't wait to see some Asian-inspired wears come out that aren't all old and retired and plasticy. Personally I think the name of the place doesn't even matter? It's what the land will have inside it. No one complained (that I know of) when the Yukisumi set came out which is /clearly/ Asian-themed. We have so many kimonos and what not that I think this is going to make a lot of people happy, myself included. I'm extremely excited to see where this gets us. Gimme some pretty wears v

I don't see Shenkuu here at all. I see a land that is so scenic and mystical just like the rest of the lands on subeta's map.

- You need to watch Atlantis, ASAP. I watched it for the first time about a year ago, and I kicked myself for not watching it sooner. It's so good omg.

Nobody said offensive. You can dislike something without being offended. Not everything is clear cut and black and white.

I didn't like the name because it was too close to Earth culture, and in my mind, it clashed with the Word of God concerning Subeta lore as it, it was supposed to be independent from Earth cultures.

Apparently, it's not that independent, now.

It's still one of my least favorite lands name, but Saherimos is still worse.

WILL DO, BOSS. :D

I totally missed on disney movies after Hunchback.

ahh sorry if you thought i was targeting you in my post! truly wasn't, only said that because one of the points you brought up a possibility that someone in the future would cause some drama over the name that's all. :p

i mean i personally don't like the name too much either but the whole site shouldn't cater to a few dislikes from a small amount of people haha.

We&;d decided early on on the Subeta species that would be native to Shengui Guo, the Chelon being one of them.

Ok this is getting off topic but this just clicked and I have to write it down somewhere. Chelons and legeicas both have gems. Mahars and celinoxes have gems. What if... :o

AS A CHINESE PERSON WITH A COMPLETELY CHINESE FAMILY, I CAN TELL YOU I APPROVE OF THIS NEW LAND AND ITS NAME. thumbs-up

I was actually hoping for an Eastern-inspired land SOME TIME SOON and I'm so happyyyyyyyy aaaaaaa.

Also, do you know how hard it is to name anything and make it sound Asian without sounding racist? Very difficult. (ching chong ling long ting tong)

Oh, it was only a prediction, considering some of the past reactions to things. ;)

No offense taken, really.

But yeah, so far, the reactions seem to go from SO AWESOME IT'S COOL to "eh. idk, i'm not sure about it, it doesn't really flow with Subeta lore to me?"

I'd say yes for Mahars. Celinox look more like a Ytiva thing to me, because of this

I agree that Atlantis' scenery is stunning, but that was done over the course or four or five years, roughly a $100 million budget, and too many artists to fit on your screen at one time, haha. I think Subeta does pretty good considering all the more resources they have.

Those other influences are great and it would be nice to see them represented too, but idk, there's a ton of lore about spirits in Asia and I'm glad they stuck to the cultural theme in this case.

To each his own though. -shrug-

OMG this I really thought it would be a mix of dia de los muertos / Asian myths. I really really want the whole story!

I'm East Asian (Korean to be exact) and I thought of Avatar first, which is derived from a mishmash of Asian cultures. Not racist or copying, in fact really beautifully done so far.

I am very, very excited by Shengui Guo! The art for Kiyo has just blown me away, and I can't wait to see what else is there! I'm hoping for Spirited Away inspired shopkeepers. Besides, anything that Neo does Subeta can do 100X better.

Quote by Kestrel
I agree. As if we did not have enough weeaboos or whatever running around with their precious CW kimonos.

You do realize that Subeta has an abundance of actual Asian users and that people can finds things attractive about a different culture without obsessing over and fetishizing it, right?

Why do you even care what people are dressing their HAs in?

The kimono hate is bizarre. I dislike the 'little pout' lip option on the Subeta HAs but you don't see me bitching about it and insulting everyone who likes it.

I love the ideas that went into this new land, but the inspiration is so blatantly obvious that it feels out of place. That&;s a big part of why it feels so similar to Shenkuu and Pandaria. They use the same source material and don&;t do anything truly unique with it. (And for the record, I think Shenkuu is just Shengui with the spelling changed, so the two cities basically have the same name.)

THANK you so much, this is exactly what I was trying to get across but I couldn't find the right words for it

Shengui Guo doesn't remind me of Shenkuu at all. I've always hated how cluttered Shenkuu's map was; it was really just a bunch of buildings clumped together, with pictures for signs to make it feel different. Shengui Guo, on the other hand, has a very elegant design; you can tell Subeta's artists put a lot of time and effort into creating it.

Also, what's wrong with having a Mandarin name that references the cultural beliefs that inspired the plot? I think it's a refreshing change to include other cultures instead of using more obvious references (like naming the land some variation of "Hades", for example).

  • let's call it Brooklyn

I absolutely would have looked into something other than standard Mandarin, the most widely spoken language on Earth, to give a name to my land of the spirits

yeah that would be nice. I think it would be cool to have a name a little different from that. They could have grabbed a name then transformed it into a subetan version of it. Like Meneb. What the fuck is Meneb? We don't know, that's why we all love it.

I wouldn't mind if they could say the town stands in the shell a giant dead turtle chelon or if it moves around Subeta as if the chelon (not to say turtle because, well, chelons) was swimming through the seas
