Ethel weebled dramatically to the opposite side when Gaia nudged her, then wobbled back and into Gaia with a grin. "Yup! We're practically the same person. Oh! And Gaia's not keen of frogs. Poor Gorf was devastated. They talked it through though. Alls well that ends well." In her mind it was. Gaia and Gorf were destined to be epic comrades in arms. Tales would surely be sung of their adventures through the centuries. Ethel nodded to herself and combed her fingers through the grass. This seemed to remind her of something, as she brightened and added "Oh! And we're meant to count to ten."

"Natalie () showed us how to determine our character number by using this chart," Beth told Fade as she opened her notebook to the page depicting the chart Natalie showed her earlier. "As you can see each letter of the alphabet is assigned a number between 1 and 9. To calculate your character number you just have to find the value of each letter in your name and add them all up. A character cannot be greater than 9. If your calculation is greater than 9 then you just add the digits together until you have a number between 1 and 9."

"It's better if I show you how I found mine," Beth said as she showed him her calculations.

"According to my calculations my character number is seven. I'm not sure what that means yet. Why don't you try and see if you can calculate you character number. I can check your work if you like." Beth said smiling. "You can also borrow my notebook."

Leaning over to see what was written inside Beth’s () notebook, Fade cracked his own back open and quickly took notes. “Should I use my full name, do ya think, then?” With a twinge of apprehension Fade scribbled W I L L O W F A D E E V E N T I D E below his ten tally marks from earlier.

“Eight plus six is fourteen, so one plus four is five.” Looking up at nothing in particular he stated very matter-o-factly. “My number is five.” Realizing that he just thought all of that out loud he blushed and his hair drifted into a rosy-purple. Glancing at Beth he grinned nervously. “Thank you for filling me in.” Nodding to the group at large he added. “Sorry I was late. Who’s Gorf?”

Gaia shudders "Gorf is the professor's pet frog." Gaia says with an unconvincing face. "He is nice. I am sure we will get along eventually" Gaia stares at Gorf. () Natalie might be able to tell you what five in numerology! Maybe even ask the professor"

"Excuse me professor, do you perhaps know what 5 means in numerology?"

Emma sat in a slump, looking down at the pages of her Arithmancy book. Flipping back and forth. Back and forth...

She was having trouble understanding the words. Of course it didn't help that she was trying to listen to the group around the Ravenclaw girl as she tried to explain how the adding of numbers would help to predict futures and reactions.

Emma rifled furiously. She didn't understand the difference between the character number, the social number and the heart number. She glanced over at the knot of students, wondering if she ought to swallow her pride and find out what's going on.

She glared down at the pages in her lap, still simmering over the fact that the professor refused to instruct them.

Megan extracts herself from the group, the excitability getting to be a bit much for her. She notices a girl about her age () flipping through the arithmancy book and swallowing her insecurities decides to walk to her.

"Hello, I'm Megan, Hufflepuff," she says offering a smile. "Is it alright if I sit quietly here with you? I'm not usually a sociable person and I promise not to bother you further."

Tate was relieved at how relaxed and chill Professor Nico was. She was never smart when it came to numbers and arithmetic so she gladly sat down on the cool grass surrounded by flowers. She closed her eyes and tried to clear her mind. Breathe in......Breathe out "I could really get used to this" Tate mumbled to herself, knowing this could possibly be a one time thing for this class. She decided to take full advantage of it while it lasted. With the sound of the wind, faint whispers of classmates and the snores from Professor Nico, Tate slipped into a relaxing state of mind and meditation Breathe in......Breathe Out

She Tried very hard and pulled her eyebrows down in concentration "Chrystle ... that's 38971235... Berry that's 25997.." She added the numbers up, having to squeeze the sides of her head to concentrate "Let's see... all together that's seventy... 70... So.. my number is 7?" She wondered aloud.

Rose's eyebrows furrowed as Professor Nico spoke. "So... he's not going to answer any questions this period? I wonder why he would let us ask questions if he didn't intend to answer them..." she whispered, confused. "And now he wants us to figure out our character numbers?" As she rifled though her textbook, she noticed the nearby Ravenclaws who seemingly had everything figured out already. "Hmm..."

Rose got up and walked over the growing group of students. Nervously searching for a familiar face, she was relieved to see Beth beginning to explain the process to one of her fellow Ravenclaw classmates. She got closer to them, giving Beth a shy smile. She listened quietly as Beth talked. When Beth had finished, Rose felt much better about the lesson. "Thanks for letting me listen in on your explanation, Beth," she said quietly as the boy next to her began making his calculations. "You're a really great teacher. I suppose that's partly why you're in Ravenclaw. I'll catch you in the Great Hall later, maybe!"

With her new information in hand, Rose hurried back over to where Emma was sitting. Another Hufflepuff had joined her during Rose's absence. "Oh, hello!" Rose said to her classmate. "I'm not sure we've met yet! My name is Rose." She gave a friendly smile before continuing, speaking to both girls now. "I just took some notes while I was talking to Beth, and I think I could help explain how to figure out your character numbers if you need any help." She blushed, surprised by her own boldness. Hastily, she added, "Only if you wish, of course."

Laying her notes out in front of her, she began to calculate her own character number. Her quill made soft scritching noises as she scribbled her equations.

"Let's see... " ROSE THORN 9+6+1+5+2+8+6+9+5=51 5+1=6

"Hmm, wonder what that means," she pondered, not realizing she was speaking aloud.

Megan looks up as another Ravenclaw approaches her and the other girl and gives her a friendly smile.

"Oh hello, I'm Megan," she says to the new addition who introduced herself as Rose. "That would be lovely! I think I did figure it out but it'd be wonderful if someone would tell me if I did it right."

She offers her notes which read:

"Does this seem right to you?" she asks Rose.

Emma looked up startled as Megan introduced herself. She held out her hand to shake Megan's

"Emma McMonigle, also Hufflepuff," Emma replied, glancing back down at the figures and diagrams in her book. "And by all means, please do," Emma said, waving her hand to the spot next to her as Rose approached.

She listened and watched as Rose showed them what she had learned from the group around the Ravenclaw girl.

"O-kay?" Emma murmured to herself. "So, 18 plus 46 is... 64... six plus four is 10... which equals one."

She looked at her classmates frowning. "What does that mean?" she asked them.

Rose looked up from her papers to check out Megan's results. After pondering a moment, Rose smiled and nodded. "Yes, I believe that looks spot on! According to the notes I have, anyways."

Turning next to Emma, Rose began looking over her calculations. "Hm... It's so close! I think you've written down a 5 instead of a 1 for the A in your name, though," she added, pointing her notes to demonstrate. "Really good job, though, everything else looks good!"

"I'm still not exactly sure what this all means..." Rose remarked thoughtfully. "I'm sure it's in our textbook somewhere, but I wasn't able to find it. Hopefully Professor Nico will explain it to us before we leave class."

Megan smiles at the girls and decides to express something that's been on her mind.

"Isn't numerology a form of Divination though? I thought for sure it was," she looks around at everyone doing their numbers; some more confused than others. "I wonder if Professor Nico is going to teach anything this lesson," she adds thoughtfully before going back to scribbling in her journal.

(OOC- Sorry this isn't like superbly awesome. I am so exhausted from work and can't brain. D: )

But Professor Nico, I thought the assignment was counting sheep... Judy mumbles half asleep. Must have inhaled some sleeping dust, I seem to have been asleep for almost a week! psst, where are you guys?

Ataina looked around at the others hoping they wouldn't notice she was horribly late doing her assignment. She felt very grateful her prefect nudged her and desperately hoped she'd completed it in time. Just wishes though that she'd share some of that sleeping dust!

Rox had read a part of the study book herself and then looked at her notes again. She was finally able to get her character number, she still wasn't sure what it meant though. Then she heard professor Nico tell some of the others that they would work on that in the next class. She was glad to hear that as she had already been afraid they wouldn't do anything in any of the classes.
