Serena opened her eyes, she had apparently dozed off with the teacher. Feeling slightly embarrassed, she decided to act like she was just meditating. She audibly started to take deep breaths in and out, to keep up with her charade. When she heard her name, Serena looked over and saw Poppy and Amanda sitting together. She stood up and walked over next to them and sat down. "Do you think all of his classes will be like this? How are we supposed to learn anything if he is asleep?" Just thinking of the professor asleep and how she herself had dozed off made her tired all over again.
Beth eagerly took out her textbook as Professor Nico started the lesson.
Beth stood there quiet, confused and shocked as she didn’t know what to do or say. Beth glanced around at her classmates, waiting for someone to laugh or for the Professor to say he was only kidding. No one laughed. Her classmates looked just as confused as she was, some even looked pleased with today’s lesson. Beth sighed before joining her classmates in counting. She glanced at Professor Nico, who remained quiet as he listened to them count.
After hearing Professor Nico’s snores, Beth furiously walked to a shady spot and sat down before silently counting to ten again and again. She couldn’t believe the day she was having. She wasn’t here to meditate. She could meditate in her free time if she so wanted. How was she supposed to learn Arithmancy now? She couldn’t help, but feel frustrated and angry.
“I was excited to finally start using our textbook,†she said as she casually flipped through the book. "Guess I’ll just continue reading it on my own for now.†she told the girls with a sigh.

"I like practical lessons best so far, but I'm hoping we'll crack open the book in his classroom. I'm dying for our Flying practical. Potions too. Maybe he just felt tired today?" said Poppy to the other three girls.
"Oh! There's also a girl from your house doing peoples' Numerology, Beth and Amanda."
Poppy, Slytherin

"Well..."
Natalie considered the professor's introduction to the class as well as the numbers they had just figured out.
"I would say anything is possible,"
"However, our reading would be even more accurate with his full name."
(ooc: I figured we needed more to work out a solid RP & this makes it fun! Do you have a picture or a description of your character? I'd love to draw this out )
Natalie beamed. She was a true Ravenclaw at heart and loved to help others learn.
"This is actually part of what we are going to be learning. I just read ahead a little bit."
She turned back to the person who had asked to go next
"Sure."
"Hey Camille how about you help out..."
"I'm sorry, I don't know your name, but Camille can help you! She just learned and she's fast."
Before she could object, Natalie gave Camille a playful shove towards the figure. Not soon after a cough caught her attention.
(ooc: This is part one of this post, given the way I write it all out i'm breaking up a huge chunk)

I wouldn't want this kind of lesson to be a common occurrence," Beth said as she watched the Professor sleep. She turned back to Poppy and said, "I'm excited for our first Potions lesson too."

Megan looks around unsure of what she should be doing. She isn't one to just count to ten and then not do anything; she enjoys a challenge. Its one of the reasons some of her housemates feel she would have been better suited as a Ravenclaw but she knows she's a Hufflepuff down to her soul.
Sitting beneath one of the nearby trees, she takes out her journal and arithmetic book and begins to study as best she can. Arithmancy has never been her strongest subject which was one of the reasons she chose to do this class. Upon meeting Professor Nico however, her idea of learning anything useful has begun to decline. Frankly, she's not sure how he got a job here to begin with as it appears the plant he smells of has addled his brain somewhat and made him far too lax in his teaching.
"What do I have to lose?" she thinks to herself. "I'll give him another shot but if he can't teach me anything then I'll speak to the Headmistress on how to find better subjects suited for my needs."

"Oh! Hi Beth! Yes, my name is Serena! I am in Slytherin, though I've been told that I don't act like a Slytherin!" Serena smiles, excited to meet new people.
Stumbling forward, and standing awkwardly in place for a moment or two, she finally forced herself to move closer to the figure and frantically tried to remember what Natalie told her.
I can do this. Okay. So Natalie said that each letter of the alphabet is assigned a number...
Camille drew a diagram and attempted to explain to the person what Natalie told her. She stumbled over her words a few times, but all in all, she felt pleased that she managed to do something she was so nervous about in the beginning.
Feeling that sense of achievement rise within her, she observed the small crowd of engaging students that had gathered around them, and thought to herself, this isn't so bad.
(ooc: i wasn't sure which figure you pushed me to, so i kinda went with a faceless one LOL also i am like a total newbie in terms of RP so i'm just developing her character as a i go on /awk ^ but picture is above! ^ )
Hannah counted to ten and then after got bored and moved a little ways away from the class into another grassy area. She had already learned and knew most stuff about Arithmancy from her summer days with her parents teaching her. She did want to practice charms more though. She took out her wand and said, "Aqua Eructo," then trying other things to craft it more. One time she couldn't control it well enough and it hit Professor Nico. "Sorry!" she said to him and then tried another charm facing way from him and the others.
Hannah, Ravenclaw.
A very annoyed Ataina glanced around at her classmates as the Professor droned on and on. Being the smartest of her parent's children she had eagerly awaited this class and knew this would be the one she would excel in the most. How she loved being the smartest in her family and was used to being doted on by other teachers. This one, however, was treating them all as if this was a remedial class, one to help the slower students catch up. She wondered if any of the others were as annoyed as she was and was delighted to note she didn't stand alone. The student sitting beside her snapped her out of her uppity attitude telling her to just wait, this teacher is known for being a force to be reckoned with and she had better pay attention, or else!
Trish. Gryffindor House.

Ethel, who had been standing next to , watched with increasing bemusement as their professor nodded off. At Gaia's incredulous muttering she snorted inelegantly and shook her head, not so much in negative response to the question but in complete disbelieve of the situation. "Don't look at me! If this is as hard as our math class gets though, I'm not going to complain." Very Un-Ravenclaw of her, but there it was.
As the students started milling about, she trailed after Gaia, listening with interest to 's (actually useful!) lecture.
"E - T - H - E - L - Q - W - E - N. Let's seen that makes me..." She felt absolutely no shame in using her fingers to find the sum. "10...no, 1! Same as Professor Nico. Oh dear."

Beth took out her notebook and quickly glanced over her notes as she heard Natalie continue her explanation. She grabbed a quill from her bag and began jotting down more notes. "Hmm...I wish I could see the chart they're talking about," she thought to herself.

Serena shrugs, "I'm not really sure. I guess Slytherins are supposed to be cunning. I have my moments, of course, but I don't feel like I am all that cunning."
Gaia is so excited that she begins to work on her own math and her face fell. She looks at Ethel (bapkate) and realizes she is also a 10... so 1. At that moment and thought crosses her mind and turns to Ethel. "Twinsies! Good thing too I love numbers! At least Professor Nico did something right for this class. It brought many of us together to get some numerology going!"
((Gaia-Ravenclaw))
Suddenly, and without any warning, a frog jumps into the circle of students ribbiting loudly. At his first croak, the teacher jumps up from his spot on the ground, wand at the ready and hair flying wildly.
"Oh" he says, as his attention comes to the class in front of him, and he pockets his wand. "Class, this is my pet. His name is Gorf. He has been watching you, and apparently, you've all made him very happy." Gorf croaks again, and jumps up onto Natalie's lap. ()
"Congratulations uh... whatever your name is. You've earned an extra ten points for your house. In fact, everyone who's passed their first class by staying here despite my-- unorthodox-- teaching methods, has won ten points for their house, but Miss uh-- you there-" he points to Natalie "have earned twenty. Good work."
Professor Nico has a glint in his eye that you weren't sure was there at first. "I really pride myself on students who follow directions, despite how strange they may think they are. This school is full of magic, what doesn't make sense at first could have a perfectly reasonable explanation in a way you don't understand." He laughed, and sat back down on the ground, this time in a crosslegged position. "So, now that you've all passed my test, I invite you to ask me questions for fun. Number related ones will get answered, and so will not number related ones. Curiosity is one thing that none of you should ever be without."

Ethel watched the gears turn in Gaia's head and wrinkled her nose when her friend's face fell. "You too, eh? Well, silver lining and all that," she said and held up her hand for a twinsie high-five.
[tot=bapkate]
Gaia raises her hand. "Excuse me Professor Nico () what happens if someone is afraid of frogs? Erm, will Gorf be around for EVERY class? and thank you for your way of teaching! Even though it is not something I am used to it was fun getting to know my classmates!" Gaia realized her hand was still up while talking and turns to Ethel () for a twinsie high-five "This is going to be fun" and in a whisper she adds to Ethel "I need your help with this frog phobia! They are everywhere!"
Professor Nico turned his eyes toward the girl () and frowned. "You're afraid of frogs?" He asked, a hint of sadness entering his voice. "My dear, I'm so sorry to hear that." He patted his leg, and Gorf hopped back toward him. "Yes, Gorf will be around all classes. I'm sorry you're afraid of frogs, they're really quite gentle creatures. If you like, I will keep him away from you, though I think it will hurt his feelings." He looked toward Gorf, and Gorf put on his most pathetic depressed expression, even though it was apparent he was being overdramatic.

"I am so sorry Gorf! It is not your fault. Professor Nico I should have known this would happen given toads and frogs are accepted pets in school. It was just a little startling." Gaia gulps. "I propose a compromise" she says opening her eyes to look at Gorf "if it is okay with you and Gorf of course he could spend some time on my desk? Maybe I can get used to him around and even associate frogs with numbers which might help me. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings." Gaia looks down waiting for an answer.

"Slytherins have other great qualities like determination, ambition and resourcefulness that make them Slytherins. They make great leaders. Plus, I've heard the Sorting Hat is never wrong," she said with a smile.
