Camille let her mouth hang open.

"You've gone through the first five chapters already? That's - that's amazing," Camille said, fervently. She couldn't imagine even going through one chapter by herself, let alone five.

"I would love to work with you, if you don't mind me being a bit slow to understand things." Camille smiled tentatively. "I'll try to keep up with the coursework and hopefully we can ace this subject together! As for Professor Nico..."

She glanced towards the sleeping figure and snorted.

"I think you can try waking him, but he looks pretty deep in sleep, to be honest - but you can try! I don't think he'll hex you or anything... probably," she teased. "I'll be your backup!"

Emma was furious.

She was doing her best to control her temper, but it wasn't easy. She had been looking forward to Arithmancy more than any other class, and here the professor was deliberately NOT going to teach them anything at all!

She didn't have a problem with meditation. Her parents had forced her to learn meditation during their last several years in India in order to control the magical outbursts that they couldn't identify when she was emotional. It was that she was being denied the privilege of learning more about the magical world.

Emma leaned over to Rylee and Rose and whispered, "What's he bloody playing at?"

Before Camille could answer, Natalie whipped out her wand,

"Accio notebook!"

A black moleskin flew out of Natalie's bag a few feet away and landed at her feet. She picked up the book and flipped a few pages in. In bold letters at the top of the page she had written, "Character Numbers: Discovering Your Companions". Ripping out a page from the back she turned back to Camille.

"First and most importantly, each letter of the alphabet is assigned a number between 1 and 9,"

Natalie labeled the top of the paper 1 through 9 and slowly started assigning letters a number. http://i58.tinypic.com/331f4g6.jpg">

"Then you have to write out their name and find the value of each number. In this case we'll use Professor Nico... 7 9 6 6 5 1 1 6 9 -- 5 9 3 6"

Natalie began adding the numbers on the paper. 73.

"73. However, a character number is one digit and cannot be greater than 9. You add the two together until you get a proper result. 7 + 3 = 10. 10 is too high, so we add 1 + 0, which means Professor Nico's character number is 1. ()"

Natalie pointed to a paragraph in her notes labeled, "Character Number 1".

"Ones are drawn to many things at once but commit to none. They are adventurous, energetic and willing to take risks. They enjoy travel and meeting new people but may not stay in one place very long. Onees can be conceited, irresponsible , quick-tempered and impatient."

Natalie closed her notebook and pondered. Based on his description we are going to get nowhere this semester Looking up from her notebook, Natalie noticed that more of the students had begun talking to one another, one student in particular caught her eye ()

"Wait..Camille...does...does she have tiny sparks flying out of her head?"

"What are you talking ab-"

Camille turned around and spotted the particularly angry looking Hufflepuff, clearly sparking at the head. Baffled, she shook her head and whispered to Natalie, "That's Emma. We haven't really spoken before so I don't really know her that well, but I'm thinking maybe she's angry at Professor Nico? I heard she was really looking forward to this subject... I-I mean, I'm just guessing, of course, she could be thinking of something totally different."

Camille flushed, and ducked her head, tracing the numbers on Natalie's notebook. Embarrassed by her own conjecture and stuttering, she attempted to change the subject.

"So um, Professor Nico... Do you really think he's the type to get really angry?" asked Camille, anxiously fiddling with her fingers. "I don't fancy myself messing up and then he ends up yelling and hexing me, or something. These personality traits of ones don't sound very promising for our class."

(ooc: damn that is some serious research!! at first, i only glanced at your post and the first thing i saw was that chart with numbers and letters and i was like oh no bc i am actual crap at numbers in rl too l o l;;; but then you explained it and then i was like ohhhhhhhHHHHHH this is super interesting!!)

Turokai relaxed as the professor drawled out his instructions. Arithmancy was the one class she had really feared. 1,2,3,4,5... she dutifully repeated, as Chua hissed snake laughter into her ear. Now that she said the numbers out loud, they really weren't so scary. One...two...three, the sound of the chanted numbers flowed hypnotically. Chua slithered down onto the ground, still giggling and began contorting his body into the shape of the numbers as Turo' said them. The little king snake looked like he was dancing in the grass. So absorbed in the sounds and shapes of the numbers, Turokai failed to notice that their professor was now sound asleep and snoring, though she looked up when she overheard another student mention a book about warrior cats. ( ) I wonder if she means Kneazels? she thought, marking the student to track down when they weren't in class to ask about the book. [edit] Turokai, Slytherin house

Kainra overheard Natalie and wanted to move closer to listen in. He closed his book. "I'll be back, Serena. I want to hear what this person is saying." He said and moved close to Natalie, trying to look at Natalie's notebook. "Mind if I look at your notebook? I overheard a bit of what you were saying, it sounds interesting. A lot more interesting than our current teacher."

Chook was happy to sit on the grass for an hour or so. Some of the other students were not but why not? Sun drowning your body in warmth, the smell of new mown lawn, drifting into a hazy, lazy, near sleep. Counting clouds, or stretching your imagination into seeing a sheep or a dinosaur. It was a wonderful gift Professor Nico had given to us all. If only the others could realise it.

Milla was slightly taken aback by professor Nico's way of teaching, but alas, it was only the very first lesson with him. Maybe he would get more engaged in teaching as the lessons went on. At least she hoped so. Sitting around and doing nothing other than count to ten for an entire lesson was, in her opinion, a enormous waste of time! She sat back with a big sigh, and a frown on her face, and dug the Arithmancy book out of her bag. She might as well do some more reading on the subject, instead of just sitting here, like a lazy sloth.

Rox stood there, unsure what to do next. She had been looking forward to Arithmancy, but she wasn’t sure if she was going to learn anything in these classes. She looked over to the professor, he was still sleeping in the grass. She was sure that he was making a joke earlier, but now she was sure that he wasn’t going to teach them anything.

She was debating with herself whether she should go to the headmistress, but decided against it, as she was hoping the next lesson would be better.

She walked through the grass, trying to decide what she would do next, when she heard a girl from Ravenclaw talk about Arithmancy, it appeared the girl had already read the study book from the class.

She stood still for a moment and listened to the other girl explaining her notes to a friend. It didn’t sound too hard she believed. She took a glimpse over the shoulder of the other girl to see how she adjusted the numbers, then grabbed her notebook and started to make her own. After having done that, she realized that she hadn’t heard enough to know what to do with the numbers now and it didn’t seem like she could go and ask the professor about it.

Rox looked at the professor who was still sleeping and then grabbed her book out of her bag, she was always carrying around the interesting books. She looked for a nice spot to sit and started to read.That way she would learn something in this class and maybe she would find out what to do with the numbers.

Tate grinned at at his fellow classmates, this had to be the weirdest 'lesson' he'd had so fast but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. He had been struggling to keep up with the other assignments, so he definitely wouldn't say no to a more chilled out lesson.

Tate wasn't sure he could sit and meditate for the rest of the lesson though.

"Do you think this guy's serious?" he asked the Hufflepuff girl sat nearby. She had her books out and looked ready to start some work. ()

Tate got up and walked over to the professor who was now softly snoring. He gently kicked Professor Nico's left foot to see if he would stir, figuring that if he didn't he could go for a wander.

Milla looked up form her book, and at the Gryffindor boy, "Even though I really hope he is not, I think he is serious about this." She gave a slight shrug, "It's such a waste of time, and not even a proper class if he doesn't even teach!" she exclaimed annoyed. Milla went back to her book, considering whether or not she should just leave this class already.

Mae watched the professor snore in disbelief, definitly not the idea she had of an intresting class. Maybe it was a sort of test to get ride of the ones who weren’t fit for Arithmancy? She decided to sat a little away from her classmates to read the book and mind her own business, she didn’t know any of them. They seemed to have find something to do and were chatting happily. The book without a teacher was difficult to make sense so she let it aside and gazed around hoping the next class would be better.

OOC I'm in Ravenclaw and very new to RP, I'm sorry if I do things wrong :/ Also I'm not a native speaker so I apologies for the mistakes ^^"

Finally, Arithmancy classes! Paddy had been looking forward to this class almost as much as her first flying lesson. She was a little surprised that they weren't going to need their books, but that could mean a practical lesson, and those were even more fun.

I just want you to count to ten. Go on, count

....count to ten? Seriously? Just. Count. To. Ten?? Paddy stared at the "professor" although she was becoming convinced that he was really an interloper just disguised as a professor. She'd read a little about Polyjuice Potion and half wondered if he was actually a student disguising himself as the professor.... although surely they'd have made the professor look more formal?

No, either this had to be a practical joke, or the professor really was stuck in the 1960s. She just hoped that the next lesson would be a lot more informative.

Looking around he saw most of his fellow classmates who were bored and didn´t know what to do. Well he could take a nap couldn´t he...

Other students were visibly delighted, enraged, irritated, relaxed, or taking the opportunity to catnap, read, or mingle. Everyone was definitely confused though.

"Okay, ok, 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10... I suck at clearing my mind," thought Poppy. After a few lackluster attempts to be zen she decided to people watch and enjoy the opportunity to sun herself. "Meditating is just another word for thinking, and the professor himself seems to be dreaming at this point anyway. I wonder how he'll award marks?" Poppy let her mind drift and twirled a piece of grass in her fingers. "What are numbers? Just make-believe to count with." Her bunny nibbled a patch of clover eagerly. "Biscuit, do you think you'll get graded for coming to class too?" Poppy giggled. She was starting to feel like Alice in Wonderland daydreaming on the warm grounds.

"Serena! Beth! Amanda!" shout-whispered Poppy. The other girls were sitting in a shady spot with some other students that were wondering what to do with their newfound freedom. "Come sit with me! I brought Biscuit because we're outside and Professor Nico seemed easygoing. Major understatement right? Could you imagine a co-lesson between him and Professor Trelawney? I'd like to ask if he's made any memorable predictions with Arithmancy but it seems rude to wake him up. Can you even prophecy in this field of study?"

Thana's attention shifted from her Potions book, to a convergence of fellow students. At the centre sat a girl, who appeared to be consulting some sort of numerical chart. From her position behind the girl, she could just about see the chart in her hand. Looks simple enough, she thought, and I am so bored right now, I'll try anything.

Should I use my full name or not?...could be more accurate. Thana puzzled. Athanasia...1, 2, 8, 1, 5, 1, 1, 9, 1; equals 29. She quickly scribbled the '3, 1, 9, 9, 6, 5' of her surname, reaching 33. Added together is..62. And add 6 and 2.. Thana finished penning a neat figure 8, circling it to finish. She had no way of knowing what that meant, however. Time to consult her fellows, perhaps.

Clutching her notebook, Thana approached and coughed to announce her presence. "Hello, er, I couldn't help but overhear - the name-number thing, I..you..." she trailed off, blushing at her stumbling over words. She was still so worried about saying the wrong thing and offending someone that she was being too careful, ultimately making a total idiot of herself. I know how to be polite, ladylike, and social, she reminded herself. I've had those stupid lessons for as long as I can remember, they must have taught me something!

Sighing, she offered her hand to the girl for a shake. "Sorry, I don't think I fully woke up this morning." she explained by way of apology. "Allow me to start again. My name is Athanasia - or Thana, for short. And you are?" she asked with a smile, pausing to allow the girl to respond. "I saw your chart and it looked fascinating, so I added up the numbers of my own name -" she showed the girl her workings on the notepad, " - and it totalled 8. Would you...be kind enough to help me figure out what that means?"

Amanda/Literature - Ravenclaw

When Professor Nico started snoring Amanda couldn't help but laugh quietly. Was this guy serious? She was here to learn arithmancy, not to waste her time meditating. She tried to follow his directions anyway, for a moment. After counting to 10 a few times, she sat cross-legged and tried to clear her mind. There was so much whispering and giggling from student's around her though that she was having trouble concentrating. She spent some more time thinking about numbers, and eventually got sucked down a worm hole in her mind. Numbers were pretty...crazy. She hoped that the next class would shed some more light on the value of numbers in magic.

Amanda heard Poppy whispering to her from nearby. She stood up and went to sit with her and the other students that were starting to join her. Reaching down to pet Biscuit, she looked at Poppy and laughed. The idea of Trelawney and this guy trying to teach together was hilarious.

She sighed and said to the girls, "I was really hoping that we were going to do something worthwhile today! I think this is just a little silly though. Hopefully the next lesson will be better, and hopefully we'll get to use the book!" Amanda loved books, and was eager to be guided through the art of arithmancy from the professor along with the author of their textbook.

[IMG]http://i57.tinypic.com/33zg3tv.png[/IMG] [Br] Hufflepuff [Br] Chrystle was shocked to see the proffessor sitting on the ground beneath a tree, but she sat down just outside the ring of shade and grinned briefly at him. She listened to him talk and stared, in spite of herself, at the strange, strange man before she lay back in the grass, spread her hair above her and let the brief bursts of sunlight warm her gently shut eyelids. She already liked this class for some reason she couldn't put her finger on. It wasn't the numbers. . . She'd been awful with numbers for a very long time. "1" She breathed in "2" She breathed out. She continued very slowly and peacefully until she got to 10, and realized she was one of the last to finish up. She also found that she was distinctly more focused, calmer, less nervous of those around her. More comfortable. "I wonder if we're going to do this every time" She cooed softly, too relaxed to speak loudly. She liked that it was so relaxed. It was when she was nervous that she started to mess up her numbers. If he was always willing to be this calm with her she could actually learn something. She wondered idly if perhaps he'd just been too tired to start so much right away or if he was purposefully easing them in. She hoped she'd get to see more of his teaching style next lesson. She kept her eyes closed and felt the sun on her skin while she drifted, floating between worlds. Half dreaming, half listening to the buzz of the earth around her.
