Oh man, I remember suggesting skeletal-type pets like... years ago. The thread got a lot of support, actually! I think the big sticking point was how to work the skeleton for pets that wouldn't actually have one, like the Aeanoid and the Dilemma.
maybe add Riftborn to the OP? People complain it looks too similar to Darkmatter, but I disagree.
i also had an idea for beach/ocean pets, my original thread found here. Been told it was somehow too close to Hydrus.
If I'm not mistaken, Hydrus is pretty close to being done along with darkmatter.

See though that argument doesn't make sense, plants have skeletons and many soft toys do too, and the Dilemma is obviously pose-able.
I even did a basic-pose skeletal aeanoid, it was one of my favourites.

and failing a metal toy 'skeleton'..
why not...?

I love the whole idea of having a set of colours where you can only achieve it by having to complete a second step/activity/quest sort of thing. And the fact that Rah has given us some hints of what's to come. It's making me feel less frustrated with the couple pets I have that I just can't decide on a colour for.
I truly want an Autumn pet so much.
One thought I have is about the pet zapper. Should colours like these, with two steps, be omitted from the zapper like Angelic is?
Also about the colours you'd have to get from battling, I don't know the stats for either challenger but which is more difficult, losing to the Ice King or beating Forj? Anyone can lose a battle and I think getting the Magma colour should be more difficult. Turning it back to Reborn should be the easier part. (The potion would be the easiest probably but..)
For example, if someone's battle pet were Reborn, wanted to keep it that way, but didn't realise what would happen until after losing to the Ice King. They'd then have to battle someone else and they'd have to win, or buy the potion they'd already bought once. And what if they really wanted to keep trying to beat the Ice King. That's a lot of extra work to keep fixing their pet. Getting a Magma pet seems more punishable then a reward.
I should think so, I think it'd be a bit... unfair? Loophole-ish? if you could just 'skip' the first stage and go straight to the second. I was thinking maybe the zapper could give you the second stage, but only if your pet was already the correct first stage and you got really, really, really lucky, but programming it to pick up on that might be kind of tricky, and probably a waste of time.
Losing to the Ice King is super easy, but ye I need to update the Forj one, I was thinking 'well make it a challenge...' but... Forj's awakened form is hard to the point of it being unfair imo. I was thinking that fighting any of Forj's forms could give you the option, but eh, I just don't get the idea of something hot as Reborn solidifying from a hotter creature? It doesn't work in my head XD but visually I think it probably works better. That said, Ice King is a random event, so that one actually changes up the how-to-get element again, but in a different way to Tempest.
Like with SW pets I think there should be a timer? 24 hours maybe? So if you loose with your RB pet and don't realize the site is like "oh no, something strange is happening to your pet maybe you should take it to [healer link]" where the Healer can stop the solidifying process. [edit] OP updated
I love these ideas, especially since, as stated, some colors are nearly finished!
I know that I personally would love Aurora, Autumn, and Robotic for some of my pets - they would be a much better fit for them. I also have been using my 1550 as my "rift" pet, but would definitely consider a rift color as being an amazing addition. :3 And if a beach color can be like the 870, or maybe even just a Saheric color, that would be amazing too!
I also love that these involve already having a pet of a particular color and "upgrading." A lot of colors are super easy to get, which is nice, but not challenging. I think that might be why I love the experiments so much... it is hard to get them and takes time. So an upgrade would be something fun to work towards... even if not excessively hard!
According to Subetalodge, this is the current breakdown of how many pets, out of 68 available species, are still unavailable per redraw colour (colourfills, including Blacklight, excluded):
Angelic: 8 Bloodred: 2 Chibi (experiments are excluded): 1 Darkmatter: 6 Galactic: 2 Glacier: 3 Glade: 4 Graveyard: 1 Hydrus: 9 Nightmare: 9 Nostalgic: 20 Reborn: 2 Scribble: COMPLETE Spectrum: 8 Steamwork: 13 Storm: 41 Sweetheart: 26
It's interesting. A lot of the site's oldest colours (angelic, spectrum, hydrus) still have yet to catch up to some of the not-as-old-not-as-new-either colours (glacier, glade), as far as completion goes.
And that's not even looking at the ones in need of revamps. xD

Ah, my favourite post in all the forums. I simply love all the colors, and as much indesition as it would cause me, I allways want more. The new aditions to this post are wonderful.
I do think that, even if it´s not perfect, with just a bit of work the OceanTide/variations Color could be added to this thread. It´s a really interesting concept in my opinion, just not drawn in a very interesting way (again, IMO)
I didn't realize how many were almost done, weird considering Nuclear is STILL incomplete XD SW and Notalgic are going to take a while one way or the other, they're so complex and textured, at least the MK2 has simplicity on its side.
I love this idea so much I can't even say. Some colours I thought were the pinnacle of colour rarity when I first joined are now so common that I have no sweat about getting rid of them and idk if it's just that I have more SP now or that options have been added to make changing pet colours easier. I'd love to see the excitement of chasing difficult colours added back in. Plus who doesn't love new colours in general??????
Agreed, I don't think 'valuable' colours will ever be a thing here like on say Neo, don't think I'd really want them to be either, but I do miss the sense of working towards a goal and achieving it, colouring a pet now only takes as long as making up your mind and how long the page takes to load. It's dull and over in a second, the only ones with some involvement are storm (annoying as hell if you go for it legit, but still quick through other users), angelic (since csc is a wee bit harder to get than sP) and the various experiments. I want to feel like I'm putting effort into making my pets look a certain way, in getting a certain colour name.
I didn't say I agreed with it ;) I think a few of the staff artists were pointing out that not all pets have bones, and I was trying to come up with interesting work-arounds.
I'm going for a Storm Neela so that one's been like my only pet that I've had to legitimately work for-- selling art for CSC and the Tempest's blessing, and all that. Like I don't at all want things to be so exclusive that only special certain users can get it, but I also want to feel as excited as I was when I got my first special pet years ago?
But yeah, I definitely agree on the putting in effort to get certain colours. There's nothing wrong with having the option to put in elbow grease for something special. And I'd definitely put in elbow grease for some interesting colour variants on already well loved pets and poses. I mean, there are certain collectibles where the variants are rarer and make it much more exciting. on this list for example. The only difference is that pet variants would be based on effort, not chance and money. So yeah, I definitely like the idea of completing legit 'quests' for these variants.
I never said you did? Just that it was a pov that didn't make sense.
But that's why I was using the Sandragon as an example for a coastal colour palette in contrast to Hydrus. Coastal would have more bright colours, such as the white to blue to sandy brown as the Sandragon. To me, Hydrus represents the very dark, deep parts of the ocean. It actually is a pretty evil colour, considering you have to go visit Merana.
Coastal would be much more relaxing, happier and airy, which makes sense since most people enjoy the beach along the shore. Warador could be holding a parasol, Neela having coral-antlers, the dog-like pets running and splashing in wet or dry sand/incoming tide water. Seashells are everywhere in the ocean, but you always find A LOT already washed upon the shore, usually broken or really pretty ones that you can make a necklace out of. ^^
The wildlife tends to be slightly different too. More hermit crabs, those little horseshoe crabs scurrying back into the sand as the tide goes in and out, evil seagulls, and the occasional beached jellyfish. Ooh, and sand dollars!
tl;dr: basically, Coastal pets would actually maintain their normal species appearances as opposed to Hydrus, which transforms them into more fish-like creatures.

I have the exact same feelings about the new Endeavor art! I feel bad saying this, but it seems as if some of the artists are better at mecha than others. Using the Steamwork pets as an example, it seems like some of them are a bit more rounded, cute, and simple than the other SW pets. Those qualities would be great in non-robot pets, but they look a bit out of place alongside the other complex and detailed SW pets.
Steamwork is my absolute favorite color on this site, but I agree with you in that it doesn't fit the bill for all robot pets. Steampunk in general takes a lot of its aesthetic from the 19th century, so even though they are robots, they are very different from the robots that would exist in the far future, or even the present! It's like the difference between an old steam train and a Japanese bullet train, haha.
Also, I read your response in the OP, and I definitely agree with you that Calvin Blackmoon would be a great NPC to use for this color! Personally though, I think Rift makes sense for a Robotic color because according to what I remember, the Rift was used for time travel, and I thought time traveling would be perfect to explain the difference between the Steamwork pets and the new Robotic pets. :)
Maybe there's a way to do both? For example, staff could introduce the color through a plot where Calvin Blackmoon seeks the user's help. He is losing market share to Issac, and decides that the best way to regain it would be to offer a brand new style of pet. However, his designs are malfunctioning. He wants the user to go to the future, steal this technology from Future Issac or something, and bring it back to him. Then, after the plot, users would go to him to get their old Steamwork pets upgraded for a fee (with plot participants receiving a significant discount).
Also, just as an aside, I would kill to see a Robotic pets like your Manta Ray (holy crap, that is an amazing overlay), and like these:
Robotic Manchu
Robotic Feli
idk I think I'm too biased to see it? To me the coast is dark rock and sharp muscles and the memories of shipwrecks and a desire to loot that never really faded, and forgotten pillboxes crumbling on the cliffs. I'm from ye olde smuggler country = and I've been to tropical and Mediterranean beaches, but even they speak of Hydrus to me. To me the coast is dangerous and dark and predatory, it always has been. So I just can't see it any other way. The only way I can see it otherwise is focusing on sand, long sweeping mud flats and dunes and sharp grasses. I'm Cornish I don't know the meaning of beach = bright colours ^^;; Besides, Hydrus pets are covered in barnacles, starfish and seaweeds, and yeah you get those things at depth, it just screams 'rock pools' to me.
you say 'fun' I say 'glad I'm not right on the coast'
My county last year.

Definitely, that doesn't really surprise me, I mean all artists are better at one thing than the other, but then you compare the SW aeanoid to the cadogre and just euuugh... the cadogre is the newer of the two but it looks so... old and blegh already. But then there are very very few up to date cadogres/endevours that don't make me wince to look at =X so yeah, heavily biased, I want lots of robots, I just want robots I like XD
A modern robot colour should focus on function over form, rather than the SW pets, with their gilt edges and golden decorations.
The rift makes sense, but it's linked to the colour secondarily, it's a middle man, you only use it to travel in time (and didn't we stop that from happening in the event?), which isn't really required for the colour, since we already have someone in the present who's had... how many years has it been since Calvin did anything productive? I mean he's got to have been building something up there in that castle of his right? Where as a Rift colour or add on to the Galactic colour could be directly related to the rift. I'd rather see Rift/Galactic Mk 2 AND Calvin's Robots, than 2-3 colours all connected to the rift. Using Calvin leaves the rift open for another option, where as connecting the robots to the rift takes up that option and leaves nothing else, e.g. why would Calvin create Rift pets?
THAT I like, the idea of bring the technology back via the rift in the first place, and giving it to younger Calvin (or bringing back Older Calvin so they work together...).
Thank you ^///^ I do love RAY, can't claim ownership of the original design though oh how I wish I could.
Ooomg that Manchu ;w; I want it!
I did the overlays/profile art for Microsoft and Sony and I'd love to see more like that on site ;w;
Ahh...I can see where you're coming from. I'm sorry you guys had so much storm surge damage. D:
I think it's safe to say we can agree to disagree about the colour idea. I think there's still a lot of support for the coastal colour, as evidenced in the thread I had created awhile back. There are others who do agree with you too, so it's no worries. ^^
Would it still be alright if I asked you put a resized Sandragon image with the coastal colour suggestion? Might help others understand the idea for the colour better.

Yeah, I don't think I'm ever going to be able to see your pov XD no matter how good it might be, I mean if it's done and done well sure, why not? I mean I can just not get it shrugs Sure I can, no problem at all.
No problem~ ^^ Thanks
