Pet Colour: Response To 'Too Similar' Colour Ideas

There has been an increase in requests for colours that are similar to colours we already have, but imo are all good ideas, just on their own are too similar to justify, particularly when we're still short on recolours. But something I've wanted to see on site since forever is a second tier to colours, accessed through some other method than just potions.
Ideas floating around on the top couple of pages right now: [li]Supernova/Aurora, similar to Galactic/spectrum/blacklight, often put down because of that reason. [li]Skeletal, similar to Graveyard [li]Spirit, similar to Nightmare [li]Autumn, similar to Glade [li]Magma/lava, similar to Reborn
Most of these are shrugged off as 'get an overlay', but I feel enough people are asking and supporting these colours that they might warrant consideration, and they're all colours I've seen repeatedly suggested in some form since I started here -- and visited in overlays.
I personally don't want to see more potions and elixirs for all these possible colours, I think Subeta has come far enough that a new means of acquiring these colours could be used to keep things interesting. I'll use the above listed ones as I like all off them and would love to see them on site ;P

Supernova/Aurora

Access to Koda Caves and/or Rift</p>
<p>Taking your galactic pet to the Koda Caves with enough of a certain set of gem stones will allow your pet to gain access to the Rift, this combination of powers results in the continued break down of the pet to Nebula. Pet form is broken down more into the cloud behind it, colours are more vivid and fractal, patterns become separated out and increase impression of pet becoming cloud like.</p>
<p>Taking a spectrum pet to the Koda Caves with intention of making a normal Galactic pet will result in the pet gaining &;Galactic&; without loosing the &;Spectrum&; element, rainbow trails become bluer and fainter, overall colours of the pet become bluer and greener, stars appear on the pet.

Skeletal

<p>Treating your pet as if it had actually died and choosing the option to bury it in Shadowglen Graveyard will result with it returning in 72 hours as a skeletal fiend, I&;m particularly fond of the idea of an aura/connecting material similar to LINK</p>
<p>Pets appear malevolent after being buried.
Spirit

Access to Psychopomp/Medium/similar BC enemy
Access to the Healer</p>
<p>Fighting a certain enemy in the BC (win/loss/draw irrelevant, battle only needs to be completed) with your Nightmare pet and going to the Healer straight after will result in her acting as if the pet exists only as your own nightmare and you&;re encouraged to let your nightmares go, agreeing will result in the pet becoming purified.</p>
<p>Pets are calm and serene.

Autumn
Autumn threadA Glade pet.
Access to the Red Rreign with some kind of offering.</p>
<p>Taking a certain set of items to the Red Rreign (either accessible only during Fireside or throughout the year) will result in him blessing your active pet (full hunger, happiness etc...), if this is a glade pet however he will turn them to Autumn.</p>
<p>Pets remain calm, but appear sleepier or dormant.</p>
<p>Spring time plants and animals are replaced with corresponding autumn/winter creatures, plants etc...</p>

Magma

Ice King</p>
<p>Fighting the Ice King with a Reborn Pet and loosing results in the pet cooling and turning to solidifying lava.
Pets are heavy and slow looking. Reversal is possible by fighting Forj&;s active form in any form and winning with that pet until the pet is hot enough to recombust..

Robotic
Official art of concept already existing used as example.<p>Back in 2013 or so, when the Masquerade rift plot came out, there were a couple of people asking for "futuristic" robot pets in the style of something like this: . It was said to be too similar to the Steampunk concept at the time, but if we were to implement this suggestion, do you think a sleek, robot pet would fit the idea? :)</p>

Have a steampunk pet
Access to the Rift</p>
<p>The idea is that the person would have to meet Issac (I think that the robot&;s name?) from the future to have him adjust the steampunk pet to the futuristic look. Or maybe the person would have to find a way to research/steal the plans from somebody and bring them back to the past through the Rift? :)</p>
<p>Anyways, really love your idea and I hope it gets implemented!
OP response: I've wanted this modern-robot colour since the MK2 was dropped on us, and I still want to see it. I think the rift could potentially be used in too many second tier pet colours, I'd rather see Calvin Blackmoon involved, offering a discounted cough upgrade if you bring him a Steamwork's pet while he attempts to reclaim the market.
I'd rather see the Rift used for something space or rift orientated, rather than something less obviously connected, particularly when we have an NPC still sitting around aimlessly.

maybe add Riftborn to the OP? People complain it looks too similar to Darkmatter, but I disagree.</p>

Been told it was somehow too close to Hydrus.</p>
<p>If I&;m not mistaken, Hydrus is pretty close to being done along with darkmatter.
[img align=right]http://www.subetalodge.org/images/pets/870.png[/img]OP response: I've always kind of agreed that it's too close to Hydrus, because it's a sandy brownish colour with sea shore animals and plants on it, and the fins look like seaweed, it looks, as a colour, just like the coasts around me, so I never saw the point, but if it was more like 's 'liquid' colour ideas, more of a sea-water and sand colour breaking down out of it's shape into the composite elements (like the experiment for example), rather than just getting infested with barnacles, I'd be all for it.
I love these suggestions! Especially the way they could require a certain pet colour first, then a task to change them to the new colouring (and a great way to make use of the rift too!) :D

I absolutely love the whole idea :o It'd be fun to see something like this even if it was introduced in it's own sort of small plot style quest. (Not the whole, buy x amount of item and hand it in like Hydrus type quest)

I LOVE Shalashaska's concept of questing for a pet colour cause lets face it, it's suppppper easy to get any pet colour you want with a bit of sP and patience. Still love the Aurora Cadogre you drew too!

Oooooh (Autumn? I remember you saying you were considering autumn at one point P=) I'll have to remember to keep an eye out.
- hahaha, MAYBE! We have a few ideas floating around right now - some are just new recolours of existing recolours (like spectrum -> blacklight), others are actual 'upgrades'.
Basically, we're coming to the end of a lot of colours on the site, and it's time for more c: I'm always open to new ways of making these new colours happen or how they're achieved.

But it really is nice to hear of new exciting things like this, I've always loved Subeta for the pets and to see the focus shift there for now has been pretty amazing with the new pet slots, the proposed changes to the spotlight, now the possibility for new colors? There's some awesome ideas already floating around :D it'll be nice to see what comes of it. On a side note who do I have to bombard with gifts and love for the new add treasure slots buttons on the pet treasure page.
I'm totally loving the ideas and of course the suggested colors. All of them sound super interesting, and it makes me even more happy that has given a few hints that we can look forward to new Pet colors. (:

So should I stock up on graveyard potions now so I can turn 3/4 of my pets into skeletons later?
Having to quest and/or gain access to get certain colours would be so exciting to me, like a plot or journey with steps that you would have to go through to change your pet? Fantastic. I'd be super stoked if any and all of these ideas came to be. I wouldn't have any character in mind for most of these currently, but I'd make some up if it was possible to make it that way. All of these are magnificent ideas.
Oh, if it were possible to add to the Steamwork process would be great too. For instance, each day of the 3 days or so would be a different stage of the "production" of your pet, kind of like the way that you'd water seeds in the garden, but more interactive.
But anyway, now I'm anticipating what the Subeta team has in mind! Thanks for sharing, and !
