How about making pet slots a SP sink? We get 5 free, add another 5 for having a GA... Why not yet another 5 that can only be purchased with SP?
There's like ballpark 5 staffers that I'm aware of that actually get into pets, 2-3 being artists (I say 2-3 because I'm not entirely sure if one mostly deals with CWs now, or if she's still an artist), 1 being CW acceptance+ (+ being the other things she does that I don't know about/aren't any of my business) and, 1 who deals with item releases. None of which are Keith, none of which are programmers.
So, my dedication to subeta pretty much sits completely with sunkcost, CWs for TCs (otherwise I'd be funneling about $15 a month at subeta for books lol), and false hope in those small handful of staffers having enough influence to actually see pet's become a thing again because there's so much little stuff that can be done that just... isn't (like, more slots, more species, more colorfills, more unique pose colorfills, since spectrum/blacklight had a bad set of circumstances (spectrum isn't a super popular color) and because of a bad choice (turning a non-CS color into a recolored-CS color) that idea went out the window and that just sucks because I counted the other day and there's roughly 6-8 uniquepose colorfills I'd cut someone for).
But as it stands now, it's pretty obvious pets would be the first thing to go if push came to shove.
If it was handled smartly, I wouldn't mind that being a SP sink, however, this all depends on staff doing it, well, smartly.
I have an account on misticpets and while I know that there's pretty much no limit of how many pets one can have on the site as long as they have the necessary money there server system as I understand it is not the same as subeta's.
There's isn't as finite as far as I understand it in certain areas, and that's what I remember being told when I first joined misticpets back in 2008.
That said, if there was an unlimited amount of slots that could be purchased as long as people on the site had the necessary money for it the site would probably crash. The way it is now, there's a finite amount of slots that one can gain every couple years and even with loyalty slots that's still once every year so the flow is stemmed to a degree.
If suddenly everyone had hundreds of slots all at once that they could access as long as they had the money for it, I'm pretty sure the servers would be overrun pretty quickly. Granted, chances are if I had access to that many slots I simply wouldn't be able to use them all. I have 18-20 some odd pets on misticpets currently, and I'd probably be happy with 30-40, but a 100, 200,400 that's a bit much for even me and I'm a pet person.
As for the base suggestion I'd like to see the total basic amount of pets rounded out to an even number, but not necessarily 10, 6, maybe.
I remember after having my base 5 pets that I still ended up feeling that it looked unfinished because the pet number was odd, and I don't think I would of had that issue, at least aesthetically on my profile if the total number was rounded up to an even number.
Oh, everything needs a cap.
But, something important that is quite a strain on the servers does not have one, and yet should
T H E W A R D R O B E
I have a hard time believing that 20 000+ items wardrobes are not more of a server strain than pets.
It probably is. If I remember correctly, I think Keith said at some point that the wardrobe is one of the largest areas of the site server wise.
However, with that said, I'd rather not add something else that would strain the site when we haven't fixed the current issues with areas of the site that strain serve space due to the sheer amount of information that has to be processed to operate them.
I doubt the wardrobe is the only area of the site that processes tons of information at once and I'd rather not add to it when those haven't been fixed yet.
Yes, there is going to be a server strain when people rush to create pets. Which also happens when nutcases like me go and spend 100$ in the hour following an announcement that max pets slots were boosted by five.
That server strain is temporary. If the limit is increased, yes, there will be a server strain. The same as during events, and solutions were found for this! When it's laggy during events, staff has gotten the habit to spin more cloud servers, and it seems to be solving the issue for the major part of the userbase.
So, if that kind of strain happens for 2-3 days, this solution can be envisaged. A rush for the creation of pets would last for a shorter period than some events, such as Morostide or Luminaire, and involves less autorefreshing than the Snowball War, or even trick-or-treating!
I actually wouldn't mind the base slots being raised to a more even number, 6, 8 maybe, but if that were the case I'd also like the gold account slots raised as well to even it out.
So, 8 slots for base and maybe 16 or so for gold simply because it'd even it out. I originally got a gold account way back when primarily for the pet slots and if the base amount were raised to 8, then getting 2 more slots honestly probably wouldn't seem worth if it I was a new user.
You'd still be getting 5 more slots from your gold account?
Meaning instead of going from 5 to 10, you'd go from 10 to 15?
Pretty much, but 15 aesthetically would still look off to me thus the 16. I like even numbers shrugs
Pretty much what I was trying to say if if you raise the base number to an even number, raise the gold account slot to an even number as well.
The way it originally worked was 5 and 5 to get 10 so 6( base)and 6( gold account total) would be ok to me gold account wise.
Yeah, and I'm not really at ease with boosting the GA further, because the point of the suggestion is to offer alternatives to people who cannot/chose not to buy CSC.
I'm 200% on board with Jessyta's suggestions to make this SP sinks, as long as they're established well.
I'm not really okay with boosting the GA slots because we already have what? 25 slots we can buy with CSC. Plus the 5 GA ones?
The point of this suggestion is to get more ideas to have pet slots be less of a "uh uh i can spend lotta money on this site and you cannot".
Right now, there is 61% of slots we have to buy directly from the cash shop. That leaves 39% for everything else and keep in mind that some of the bonus slots were gotten because people bought slots from the cash shop.
We're okay, as far as the cash shop slots go. We're really ok.
NO REALLY, THE MORE I THINK ABOUT YOUR IDEA, THE MORE I FIND IT GREAT
Are you seeing this as a scaling way, where each slot would cost more than the other, or are you thinking of a flat rate?
The more I think about pet slots as an sP sink, the more I get the feeling that the price would be something ridiculous like >100m per slot. Pet slots cost... 1000 credits (I think)? So it would kind of put a price on csc, if indirectly and, as far as I remember, Keith wants to avoid putting a staff-based sP price on CSC. I could be wrong.
I kind of do like the idea of pet slots being an sP sink (ignoring the staff's tendency to go full-monty with prices as far as sP sinks are concerned), but I'd also like it if you could get pet slots as a reward for doing regular site activities. Stuff like finished number of total quests (ALL regular quests counted for this), training a pet up to a certain number of stats, having a certain number of collectables (stickers + beanbags + plushies + trading cards) in your collections, restock a certain total amount of items, having a certain number of achievements, maybe a reward for completing enough BB quests (or make them obtainable via BB points? AFTER THE MYTHICAL BB REVAMP PLS), or having a pet slot as a reward for owning 50 pets once it's possible to get 50 pets (yes I am a little annoyed that folks who buy pet slots only get forum titles as a reward).
That'd boost activity and the slots would be available to anyone who wants to work for them.
Or make it a group effort, like another topic suggested.
TBH, I hadn't really considered a sliding scale but that could certainly work too!
I think I like sliding scale a little better because Frost raised a good point, staff doesn't want a SP/CSC convertion rate.
I think the Montre/Donadak plushies were briefly added to the Crystal Shop as well, before the full purge. But, it's a nice plan B if staff doesn't want to bother with thinking of ways to scale things
You're great and this is great and I can get behind this all the way.
2000 CSC, actually.
Also, yes for some pet achievements giving out pet slots but, Massive Family isn't a fair one for that, because some people can get to 50 pets as soon as this year, because of loyalty boxes slots.
If we use Pet slots as sP sink, the prize for them should be between the "free GA slots" and the 20$ slots. If you buy the csc with sP to get the 2k for a Pet slot wou'd pay roughly around 100mil? Prize the Slots around 50mil each (maybe with scaling, but not too high?) and we have a middle price for "free GA slots" and the 2k csc monsters. Probably a bad idea I know, but it was just a thought.
I'm always for more pet slots nods
However, I'm not a fan of scaling the prices if that meant the price would increase from what it is now, for extra slots for those who have already maxed out :P

I would dump a lot of cash for more pet slots. I make characters/ art/ profiles for all of my babies (or try to at least). Pet Spotlights are my number one goal.

Try Tobias' thread, that's the one for more cash shop pet slots.
The scaling would only be for the ones that are a SP sink. It doesn't effect anything about now, and doesn't affect anything in the cash shop.
Like
Slot 1 = X SP
Slot 2 = Y SP = 2X SP
Slot 3 = Z SP = 2Y SP = 4X SP
Slot 4 = W SP = 2Z SP = 4Y SP = 8X SP
Slot 5 = V SP = 2W SP = 4Z SP = 8Y SP = 16X SP
On the topic of server strain, they really need to find a way to paginate pet stuff if they're going to increase any limits. That alone would help a ton, I'm sure. That's always been one of Subeta's blindspots.

This needs to be a suggestion thread of its own, seriously.
I support the hell out of that
