I'd rather talk about it over here :p
For ease of use, yes. But I have some questions. You knew I would...
I'm not crazy about the idea. Granted I think I only ever entered one Melody day, and it worked great for that.
It would be great for single items. It would be okay for any releases of 5 or less items.
However, I'm sitting here imagining doing it for, the Steamworks Menagerie, where I'd be adding in 50-100 items. Copy the item name, paste the item name, copy/paste the section it goes into, then click a button to process that item. Then do it again and again 50-100 times in a row? It would take forever!
Right now, I do it by copying the whole mess (all 50 or so items) into one cell, then dragging the names and images into their own individual cells. Yes, a bit of work, but so much faster and easier than copy/pasting one item at a time, and waiting for the system to process each item before moving on to the next.
Another issue is the Monthly Collection is done differently than most other items - with the transforming item(s). I'm not sure how this would/could be worked in? Most months its exactly the same as the previous month, but it happens often enough that there is a small change - like extra transforming items that I sometimes have to make judgement calls.
Of course, maybe I'm misunderstanding the proposal, or incorrectly imagining how it would work?

I knew there was going to be another question ;)
ahem did we all make it to the new decade? no posts in here all year...
Still here -- back in Virginia, even. Hope everyone else is well, too.
Glad you made it back. Mom and bro okay when you left them?
No, not really, but that ship has sailed. Mom's sleeping most of the day at this point. (Seriously: she'll get up at the crack of dawn, get dressed, go sit in her chair, and then fall asleep in the chair.) Had to get back up here for the start of classes, and I did what I could while I was down there.
I'm so sorry to hear that. I know you did what you could though. Did she know you, know that you were there? How is Brett handling it all;? (Sorry, is it Brent?)
You had it right -- it's Brett. Mom knew I was there -- when she's up, she's mostly lucid. I put up some shelves in her room, mostly to try to contain the hoarding. She doesn't love them, but she'll get used to them.
Brett does what he can -- and he's pretty good about calling me with questions. He saves me from having to drive down even more often.
Well, if she is sleeping most of the time maybe Brett can start getting rid of some of the stuff. It sounds like he can decide what is junk and what he needs to keep?
I'm really sorry you have to deal with all this/ You know I would do anything I could to help, right? I mean, I know I am way over here, lol. But yeah. Just drive a couple hours if you need a hug!
Brett's reluctant to throw anything out (Mom, unfortunately, trained him well!)
And don't be sorry -- I think you know the other side of the coin: mom beat cancer twice, so we're definitely in overtime here. We're lucky to have her with us even if she is finally reaching her twilight. Brett and I lost our Dad young, so this is karma making up for that.
I'm alive...just have nothing in particular to say.
LOL I suppose I could talk about my gaming session last night. I infiltrated a gang of bad guys. Set up a trap with an even worse baddie (who had a piece of a puzzle I've been working on for months). Sprung the trap and defeated them and got my puzzle piece from the worse baddie. I was completely successful, but it wasn't the type of quest I prefer - too much back-stabbing and using the same tactics the bad guys use. I'm not generally an "ends justifies the means" gamer. But now I only have one more puzzle piece to find then I get my super duper incredibly powerful magic sword.

glad to know you are alive even with nothing in particular to say, lol
Your game sounds interesting. I wonder if the bad guys know they are playing a mere female? :p I say go for the big weapon and then wipe them all out with it.
LOL I'm often mistaken for a young man. The game is designed to make "attractive" player characters - for your appearance you roll three times, kick out the lowest roll and average the two higher ones. In spite of that, my appearance stat is 27/100. I'm a half-elf, so I joke that I got the worst of both worlds in the looks department. I'm tall and skinny, but strong and fast.
Its just me and the DM playing, so I'm in a party of 1. I have my trusty companion, a fairy dragon, who's saved my bacon many times. I started out as a thief, but I've recently switched to a mage.
Its been a wild ride so far. I stumbled into some information about this cache of magic weapons while on a different quest. To open the cache you need to acquire 9 magic words. Basically the way its worked so far is that I track down someone who knows a word, they send me off to do a favor, I do the favor, get the word. Sometimes through doing the favor I learn of another word, or the person with the word might have a lead to another word. I'm up to 8 words and have hit a dead end for the final word. Word 8 is the only time I had to make a deal with an evil character, all the rest were either good or neutral.
I've done many other quests and side-adventures in between tracking down the words and made some good contacts and joined a secret society.
Its hard playing as a single person party. On the gaming side, if my character gets beat up, there's no one to protect me and/or finish off the bad guys then heal me. So I developed a character with unusually high defense. Then if my character doesn't have a skill - for example, I run into a situation where I have to unlock a door, the quest is over if I don't have lock picking skill. So even though my character class was thief, I developed a bunch of off-the wall skills and while I'm a great thief, I'm also kind of a Jack-of-all-trades.
The biggest problem, though, isn't my character or the game - I did a really great job designing my character to survive and accomplish everything on her own. No the biggest problem is me. If I fail to have an idea, if I can't think of what to do next, I don't have anyone else to rely on to come up with something to try. No discussion with other players to spark ideas off each other.
Still having lots of fun though - some advantages of playing alone is that I don't have to fight for my share of the action, or attention from the DM. I don't have to worry about sharing the loot fairly. No arguments about which side-quests or direction to take the campaign.

wow. um. sounds like you are really into it :D
lol, I am just teasing. I can understand the appeal of something like that. It really is just a for m (or many forms) of puzzle solving. At least, that is how it sounds. I enjoy puzzle solving but games from this century are beyond me.
LOL, yeah it is in essence puzzle solving. But you come at it from a different direction. When you're playing a game, like Clue, for example - you have all the pieces and, as the player, use your real life knowledge and skills to pull it all together. In Roleplaying, you have your real life skills, of course, but you have to put that aside and pretend you only know what your character knows. LOL and then your character has skills you don't! And you have to find not only the puzzle pieces, but the puzzle too.
With a really good gamemaster you can end up with dozens of puzzle pieces, five different puzzles and be totally clueless about which pieces belong to which puzzles.
My current GM is good, but not great. He laid out a bunch of puzzle pieces at the beginning. There were 3 puzzle paths I could have followed, I chose to follow the words that led to the magic swords. All that was good - but with a great GM, they would have left the other puzzles open, with the possibility of me stumbling across more pieces and maybe getting diverted from my word quest, or possibly something to take up once I completed the words. But in this game, I have the feeling that those old paths are now closed. That once I finish the word quest, I'll be presented with some new options that won't include going back to the old puzzles. Running a game has just as many challenges as playing the game.

But in this game, I have the feeling that those old paths are now closed.
Well, that's how it is in life, too. We make choices that forever close off other choices to us. ("Y'know, now that I've tried it, I think I'd rather not have kids and be a bon vivant instead.") I don't think closing off past choices necessarily makes a GM bad -- but a really clever GM would make the closing part of the game play, for example, by having you encounter NPCs who've beaten you to the artifacts the other paths led to.
Anyway, it sounds like you're doing well and having a good time.
LOL that's true. One of the challenges of running the game is to make it "realistic" without getting so bogged down in realism that the game ends up as depressing and/or boring as real life!
My old GM, who was great, did that sort of thing. You'd end up with a 'random encounter' that either showed a resolution to the old path, or warned you that it was closing off. Thing is I was spoiled by that GM, I played with him for something like 15, maybe 20 years before he moved to another province.
My current GM is good, and I'm having a lot of fun, but sometimes its hard not to compare the two.
On the other hand I've played with some bad and mediocre GMs too. One that liked to play favorites and even though I was one of the favorites, it still didn't feel good. Another who was completely unprepared for players to act like players and NOT follow the script. In that one we ran into a lot of magically locked doors that we simply couldn't open no matter what we did and other obviously staged events. Another who couldn't get the players moving, they kept waiting for someone else to act, all they wanted to do was roll dice - that was a player problem, but the GM had no idea how to handle it.
So yeah, all in all, I'm really happy with my current GM :D.

or do either of you know why we have one extra minion than the item directory? Do I need to start going through and comparing page by page to figure it out?
