True, I think they should have just stuck with a small cut rather than a random 50m. The 50m didn't make anymore sense to me than the 90% from the last contest, especially seeing both friends flail about and telling me they didn't know what to do with it before they hit people's WLs.
50mil is way to extreme. I thought that when I saw what you could win - isn't the item and csc enough?
I think I'm more concerned with the fact that they didn't mention how many people were going to be selected. I get saying that there's going to be 5 and then deciding later on that there were too many good ones and making it 10... but not saying at all? Maybe they will tell us when we get to our voting stage, but that seems kinda weird considering they have already decided on the prizes.
good lord that's wildly excessive. i had no idea they were giving out such an inappropriately large sp prize (didnt read the details, my eyes glazed over when i saw "CW" in the title). the 50 mil would MAYBE be appropriate if it was divided among all the winners but uh, individually? and how many winners are there going to be exactly? why is staff suddenly so keen to flood the market with hundreds of millions of sp in a single day, after how much emphasis they've put on sinking sp from the system?
jw if you guys get to see how much sP gets taken out of the system from these sinks because you really seem confident in knowing what you're talking about. Show me some up-to-date numbers?
I get the point you guys are making, would be nice to know how many winners, prize distribution and all that, but I'm no economist so I couldn't say one way or the other how much 50m will affect it.
Seems like this is how things are just working now, "stop hoarding". Then, they turn right around and want us to turn in a bunch of items, that the majority of us don't have so we have to buy in order to finish achievements, rewarding those that hoarded everything.
Then there's this, "we need sP sinks, too much sP in the economy!" What happens? They generate a giant sum of sP which is only pushing more sP into the system that they want us to get out.
If you're talented/know what to hoard, you're going to do fine. The rest of us, not so much.

This.
The people that make CW's are already flush with Sp and CSC, so let's find a way to spread it around maybe??
Literally everything on this site is a contradiction, as the post above me states. Can we pick a route and stick with it?
I never read the posts about contests since I know its a waste of time for me, personally. But holy hell at the prize. Loooool.

We actually calculated how much sP was taken out of the system by users purchasing the items, and it was much much greater than 50 million per item :)
💖 ✨ 🤗
During Peka-Boo, we set the percentage of the SP profits as a prize because we predicted (based on statistics of previous items sold in any way similar) that an amount of items would be sold that would amount to /maybe/ up to 100 million. When all was said and done, our users purchased the CW contest items to the amount of around 400-600 million sp's worth, PER item. This was way over what we had predicted, but we'd already promised the prize.
Doing it this way, even if 1/5th of the same amount of items sell as did during Peka-Boo, it will still work as an SP sink.
As to the number of winners - we have not specified how many winners there will be, because I'd like to see how the entries go first. As said, we will likely have more of an idea when we get to the voting stage. I don't want to say there will be 3 winners and then there are dozens of amazing entries, or that there will be 10 winners and we don't get 10 entries that are up to standard. (Something I very much doubt will happen, but we'd like to prepare for that just in case!)
As to this competition only being for a select number of people - these are items that are being drawn BY our users FOR our users. Users are drawing things that they want to see on the site, and other users get to vote. We are continuing to set up competitions of all kinds for all kinds of users. If this one isn't for you, hopefully a future competition will be! (I do want to do a 'design-an-item' competition soon, I do love that idea)
i can understand that the prize will end up pulling more sp than 50mil from the site. Sure, that makes sense.
but if you didnt give out the 50m times however many winners (lets say 5), wouldn't you have an extra 250m money sunk in?
Create-an-item would have gave us a breather from things that necessitate artistic abilities, and would have given a wider range of potential entrants.
BUT THEN AGAIN, MAYBE WE SHOULD JUST BRING BACK OFFICIAL CUSTOM ITEMS AS A CASH SHOP FEATURE
(I would buy so many)
(No you have no idea)
(How many custom items I'd buy)
Yeah, I was looking at that and kinda frowning. Why was it 'only' 250CSC for the avatar contest that conceivably EVERY site user could participate in on fair and equal ground, but all these AMAZING expensive prizes for the upper crust artists, which are only a small % of the users? I'm not saying this contest shouldn't exist, after all, artistic talent is something to be shared and celebrated, but the prizes are just a bit much, considering who can realistically participate.
CWs and everything surrounding them are kinda side-eyed enough already, without this massively disproportionate amount of prizes given away.
Or can afford to drop money to commission the same handful of artist that do CWs.
Someone suggested a contest that woukd allow people to submit sketches, or even ideas for non wearables.
That would have allowed som many more to participate.
After the debacle, I kbow for sure having no arristic talent I will be sure to submit something.
Even if it ends up as an overall sink - it's fucking ridiculous I'm sorry. The CSC prize could have been upped, or things like achievements and item prizes added =/.
and jesus this post is so on point:
If the site artists are overworked, this contest helps them out with players contributing wearables for Survival. Giving CSC as a prize means that artistically talented people from anywhere in the world can get paid for their efforts.
Honestly I was surprised that there is a sP reward as well as CSC/items (which seemed like enough already to me). Seems like staff is saying "LOL TAKE THIS TO COVER THE UPCOMING SP SINK SURVIVAL IS GONNA BE! ON THE HOUSE YOU GUYS!"
I don't think the prize amount is excessive. It's not even a question of time and effort as I can argue ornament creation or pumpkin carving can take nearly as long if you're really into it. Now it's highly variable how much an artist gets per cw. It depends on how many people want that particular item and how popular the artist is, but let's keep things simple by assuming the artist can fill one batch and charges 200 csc more than base price. Their profit off that batch goes beyond 1k csc. If you factor more batches and recolors of said item, that profit is even greater. So ~3k csc's worth in prizes for this contest isn't a lot. It seems just right or even smaller (because they can't do recolors, right? unless I missed that). I'm not saying each cw artist wouldn't bother entering if the prizes weren't what they are now. All I'm saying is you have to consider what the on-site create a cw alternative route would mean and how it could possibly affect participation on some level. The reason ornament making, avatar making, and pumpkin carving don't get the same amount of prizes is simple. There's no way on site to use these skills to make sp / csc (unless you advertise making and shipping ornaments but like still.... good luck with that haha ;)).
edit because oops math typo
A one off set of 50m prizes isn't terrible in itself, but it really is contradictory to staff's vocal position on sP sinks, and it does continue the terrible precedent from peka-boo (though that was a direct sink, it didn't NEARLY live up to it's potential). :(
hnnng yessss I have paychecks to waste and tcs to fill~
ok back on topic: I think the csc and a copy of the item is totally sufficient as far as prizes go.
