The group's been a bit quiet lately. What's up with everyone? Does anyone have any fun weekend plans?

: I'm doing laundry. Is that fun? I started summer holiday this week, and I've not been on Subeta much. When I have been on, I've spent most of my time on Wayward Squirrel. How about you?

- I think laundry is the never-ending story of my life. It's the one thing I never truly feel like I'm caught up on. My weekend will be consisting of that as well. How long is your summer holiday and do you have anything planned? I'm on summer break as well right now... mostly just been sitting at home catching up on relaxing and sleeping while I have a chance!

waves to and Not much to talk about here really. Just staying in out of the worst of the heat and trying to find someone who might want to pick some of my walnuts. I'd rather give them away then spend time picking them up and throwing them away when they fall.

: Certainly you're not harvesting walnuts already are you? If I lived anywhere near you, I'd come pick them up. I'd do practically anything for free walnuts. We often glean in the walnut and pecan orchards and you can work all day just to get a small bag of marginal quality nuts. But we love nuts in our family. Walnuts in this area are going for $6-8 / lb. shelled.

: We've been invited to spend a day and a night at Monterey and Santa Cruz on the coast of Central California with my author and his offspring. Monterey is one of my favorite places in the whole wide world. Santa Cruz has one of the oldest wooden roller coasters still running at the Beach Boardwalk. Can you say Funnel Cake?? Other then that, some fishing, lots of reading, swimming and staying home. And laundry. ( giggle ) My holiday ends on August 10.

- I totally understand the staying inside out of the heat. I'm doing that as well! The temperature here has been in the 90's with the heat index hovering around 100. Too hot for me! Indoors I shall stay!

I really know nothing about walnuts, so I don't know if they're ready or not. How can you tell?

I do go sit outside when I let Crockett out, so he'll run around a bit. He's started to not like being outside alone, so he usually runs right back in after doing his business, and I really want him to get some fresh air and exercise. He's turning into as much a couch potato as I am. Of course he is 13 years old.

They're green now, in the fall they will split open and the walnut will fall out onto the ground. you crack the shells and voila, wonderful walnut meats. They are so worth the effort. Walnuts are s superfood, and a healthy oil.
