Because events are to alert you to things around the site, not for storage.

You have plenty of avenues for that (screen shotting, your own personal storage, using the notepad widget, etc) to remind you of things.

I am glad this thread is here simply because comments are disabled on the news (though I can see why).

I just want to say thank you SO much for the warning! There are definitely a few that I want to screenshot/bookmark where they lead to for future reference. ^_^

Does this mean that in the future events will have a certain expiration date? Like they will continually disappear once they hit a week/month old or something? Or do you intend to do it as a mass removal once in a while similar to this one?

I'd like to suggest that the CW submission information become available to us somewhere. Notably denial reasons on older items we might still be interested in resubmitting.

Edit: I would also like a log of shop's sales, even without names, in that case.

This might sound like a very noobish question, but what do you mean by "events?" Especially after hearing about events being used for storage, I have no idea what is actually being talked about.

I'm guessing its everything that shows up on the side bar there, like new achievements, alerts of messages, etc.
What he meant by storage is like, you can keep screenshots in your own photobucket instead of taking up resources/storage on Subeta.

The same thing I said in the news post - you can write that down yourself in a notepad, use the note widget, etc.

The events are not for storage.

Shop sales are not logged outside of the CS log (for UAs), but could potentially be in the future.

Yeah, that's an argument I understand better for all other events, but I think CW denials should be up for us to see somewhere. Even if it's a brand new thing, if someone accidentally deletes that event, it means a ticket has to be made, adding to the UAs workload and all that. :/

Anyway, if there's a possibility to make this sort of information available to us on a page, that would be great! Simple shop logs with dates of purchases would be very useful, too.

If it helps relieve the site of so much stored data, go for it. Now that I understand what's going on, thanks . =)

One question: one thing I'm seeing that I do not like at all is that there's no events of any kind besides the tiny ones on top of the forums themselves, is that supposed to be a permanent thing?

I'm a bit sad for this, only because I've been really good about keeping my Spotlight win alerts. I get why though, so no issues really from me!

I am all for this happening. Why? Well, there was a user a couple years back that was having the worst time trying to play the site and do things without the most horrendous lag and errors. And this wasn't during an event, nor was there anything wrong with her computer. We tried everything. Clearing cache and cookies, restarting browser and computer....and subeta was the only site. It took forever for her to even respond to us.

...

Turns out that she had hundreds of events saved on her sidebar. And she couldn't load the site because her account was struggling to load hundreds of events every time she went to a new page. That is why it was only affecting her. A UA had to manually go and delete all those events so that the user could play again.

Yes...that is an extreme example. And I am not saying that anyone has done that since. But if there are less things that have to load on a page, the page will load faster. Same reason I regularly try and clear my history and cache on my browser. It is just good computer health.

No problem for me, as said before, anything that speeds up the site loading can't be bad. :) I would have loved the more in depth clarification in the news though. Or allowed to ask in the comments. People shouldn't have to make threads to ask what a news post exactly means or why it's being implemented.

Yeah I like this, stockpiling events from forever seems like a meaningless waste of storage and drag on the servers

I think this is a good move. Especially if it can help with the lag. I didn't even know people would use their sidebar events for storage...I personally find it gets very cluttered so I like to delete events as they come.

I think it's smart to have the events cleared. After you've seen what was pinged, it's not really necessary to have the event there permanently. If the post or thread is very important to you, you can add a link to your note widget and link yourself that way. Awhile back when people had HUNDREDS of events/notifications during a site plot, and it literally slowed the load time of every page they viewed.

I don't see how anyone would even want to amass that many events! I dislike the clutter so I get rid of them usually soon after I see them. I'll keep the Pet Spotlight ones for a little while or if I need to go visit a forum thread later in that day or the next maybe.

I'm cool with the events being deleted, or really anything that will make the site run smoother, but I was wondering in the future will we still get events/ notifications for things like when our pet is done with training or we get an achievement? Will they just have an automatic expiration now? or will there be no more events ever?
