All of these tattoos are gorgeous. I especially like the Tarot one.

I just recently got a tattoo that's been on my bucket list for a while. Millennium Ring from Yu-gi-oh

I have some small ones on my wrists. Still thinking about my next one, but I probably won't be able to afford anything big for another couple years.

What a lovely tribute to him! It looks awesome.

I had one designed for me a few years ago which was going to go in between my shoulder blades. It was a turtle, of which the shield was a sort of celtic knot. But then I had some second thoughts and I cancelled the appointment. I think I'll still go through with it one day, but the design just needs something more, though I don't know what just yet.

A comment about tats on the chest for women...it's actually better to get them higher up instead of on the breast tissue, especially if you're well endowed. As age starts taking a toll on the skin, everything starts sagging and it can really distort the look of a piece down on the breast tissue.

I'm working on the left arm sleeve, it's acanthus leaf patterning with dragons, hedgehogs, poppies, crows...all sorts of things, surrounding a cat face made out of smaller cats. I'm getting a sleeve on the right arm of leaves with little butterfly and moth winged faerie dragons all twined through it.

Thank you! A lot of people say that, but it honestly wasn't very bad. The coloring stung more than just having it done on the collarbone. :)

Oh okay, that's good. I figured it hurt because of your sternum and collarbone. Yeah, the coloring did sting quite a bit on mine

You're welcome! That hat cracks me up as well. I seem to remember that it was an achievement prize, but I'm not sure. OK, well I'll be looking forward to the new photo and any other photos of tattoos that you, or anyone else wants to show off. I think they're so pretty!!

I really love your tattoo!! It's so bright and lovely c:

Actually I think all the tattoos I've seen on this topic are amazing. I don't think I would ever have the courage to get a massive one, but I definitely do want more than the ones that I do currently have in the future! an arabic phrase and my twin's name (she has mine on the same spot on her body teehee)

I'm thinking of getting my next one when I move away from home next year for university, because my mother just basically announced that if any of my siblings or I get tattoos, we'll have bought ourselves a one-way express ticket to hell and disownment. And the fact that she was serious when she said it made me sort of indignant and furious. I just don't understand the stigma against body art. :c

Sorry for the delayed response. It's been a crazy week. I'll have my sister take a picture of it this weekend.

Thank you! Again, sorry for the delayed response. I really like the ones you have planned. They are really pretty.

Yeah, my mom is not happy about mine. I don't either.

I'm so sorry to hear that your mom said that. :( Your tattoos are very cool, I really like them a lot and I'm 59. I know that most ppl my age think they're awful (and even a guy I know who's 10 yrs younger than I am hates them).

I can tell you what, I believe, the stigma is for older ppl such as myself. When I was a kid (and I was born in 1955) the only ppl who had tattoos were men who had been in the military. I think they had them done overseas, as I don't think that tattoo parlors were around much (unless you happened to live in NYC or some other huge metropolis) but I grew up in a small town in WI.

My dad has a tattoo on his forearm of some sort of bird with a ribbon in its mouth. I think he has "Mother" on the ribbon, which was common with young men, and very socially acceptable. My dad is almost 85 now, he's a Korean war vet. I know his tat is very faded, it's older than I am, and I haven't seen him (due to distance) in over 11 yrs, so I'm not sure if it's still even perceptible.

So when they got popular in recent years they were associated with "old men" and it was OK for those guys who had served their country. Also in the 60's (or earlier) started to get popular among a group of ppl who were considered outcasts, mainly bikers and other people who were considered "low" in the social strata. I'm from the US, so I'm not sure of the connotations in other countries.

Well fast forward to the 80's (or so, I'm not sure when they started becoming popular among a LOT of people, usually young people) and the old folks such as myself were still associating them with being a social outcast. I think that women were considered cheap, by ppl over 40 or so, if they had tattoos. In the US there were a LOT of conservative young ppl during the Reagan Years, so even ppl who were in their 20's then and are now over 40 have an issue about it. (even my friend who is NOT a Republican, but he's conservative in some ways)

I'm totally a liberal and I LOVE body art. I think it's amazing and beautiful so bring it on and post more photos everyone!!! I'm NOT like other women my age in ANY way. I would have body art if I were not disabled and poor AND I have a degenerative joint condition that also results in very very soft and easily injured skin, so I'm afraid it might not be a good idea for me to have body art.

I have a LOT of pain as it is, and I have a very high tolerance, but I don't need to ask for more. Also, I'm pretty much a hermit now, so nobody would even see it. I'm also concerned about infection or allergic reactions with my delicate skin.

Anyway, I hope that my theory helps make sense as to why parents and older ppl are so "nuts" about it. I'd be a very cool mom and grandma if I had children. My late husband's son had some very cool tats and I have always enjoyed seeing them. I LOVE the ones that encircle the upper arm. I met a young man some years ago, who is in his 30's now who had rune stones all around his upper arms, all connected in beautiful way. Also when I was identifying as a lesbian for 12 yrs of my life I knew women who had some very cool gay oriented tattoos with pink triangles and other stuff. OK well I've babbled enough. I need to get to my quests!!! I've seen some very pretty flowers and vines that go all around the upper arm too.I just realized that my friend who hates them so much has an ex-wife who's a lesbian and she's into tattoos (and also 49) so that's probably why he's SO against them. He's not fond of her, and not because she's a lesbian, but anyway...

OK cool, I'll be here!!! No worries about the delayed response. I'm here every day and never can do everything I want to because I run out of steam so when ppl don't write me immediately I'm not worried about it. I owe SO many comments and sMails to my friends. I just can't keep up. I need a laptop so I can be more comfortable when I'm online!!

It truly is amazing! Thanks for showing me. I hope things slow down with school/work soon. I guess there's always Christmas break. I'm so glad that part of my life is behind me, though I wouldn't mind being young again, and knowing what I do now!

I actually have 4 of them (CLICK)

  1. The scorpion is on my right forearm. It represents my strength and protection. I feel like ive been hurt by lots of things so the scorpion is basically showing that i have enough strength to overcome things and its protecting me from anything else that may happen. Kinda dumb, but i like it.

  2. The lady on my upper right arm is a representation of my inner beauty. I explained that to my artist and this is what he came up with.

  3. The octopus is on my back on my left side. I got the octopus because when an octopus comes to mind i think of them blending into their surroundings, or adapting. I joined the military a year ago and thought i adapted to my new surroundings pretty quickly.

  4. The last one is a quote on my ribcage on the right side. 'When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace. Its a quote by Jimi Hendrix and i just really liked it, so i got it.

Well then, I wish you strength! I dropped in and out, for 6 yrs, then got married (but didn't have kids, sad) and went to tech school for a vocational diploma during my time away from college, and finally after 8 yrs I was able to quit my job (after one step child was out of HS and we had only one left to pay child support) and go back to the University. By the time I got my BA I was 35 (a million years ago) and within two yrs after that I was applying for disability.

Never had the energy for the MA... Life is not always what we think it's going to be. I am not one of those ppl who says "but I have no regrets." Unfortunately, I have many. Ah well, such is life. They say life is what you make it but for some people life is what our genetic diseases make of it for us...I know, I sound VERY victimized, and that's how it feels to be born with a condition that limits all opportunities to make something of your life. People who say that "life has no limitations but the limitations we place on it" have NO clue what they're talking about. I fought against the "issues" of this disease from the time I was 8 til I was nearly 38 and I think that 30 years of trying to push past something is enough to say "it's time to surrender and let go." Most people with my condition wouldn't have achieved half of what I did in my "former" life as a person under 40. I'll be 60 in 7 months (almost exactly) seven months from tomorrow...blah, that's scary as hell. OK well I just woke up so please excuse my tirade.

Lately I've been waking myself up because of talking in my sleep. I'm alone since my husband died (2nd husband) and I'm REALLY alone, so I've taken to talking to myself while asleep. I did that as a kid a lot and have throughout my life, but now I'm doing it ALL the time, it's getting sad to wake up and realize the people i was talking to are not really there...it was all a dream. I get pretty gloomy around holidays, so please accept my apologies for the rant.... (slinks off with proverbial tail between proverbial legs) ugh ugh ugh ugh ugh!
