Yes, let&;s argue over which horrible thing is the most horrible in a topic where literally one person argued for something to be removed over a month ago.

This is a good use of our time.

Sarcastically dismissive comments from staff members, awesome.

[edit]

I don't think the Bowl of Ebola should be removed, but this community has a bad habit of ganging up on unpopular opinions and getting carried away with insults and condescension, and I really don't want to see staff members stoop to that level for any reason. It's unprofessional and doesn't help the situation at all.

I fucking lol'd.

I'm not sure why this board hasn't been locked yet. Keith's more or less said that this item and items like it won't be changed.

The one reason I kinda want that item changed is because Subeta is moving away from real world stuff, and I'd much rather have a Bowl of Butterfly Bruise, or one of our many other viruses.

It hasn't been locked because the OP hasn't requested that it be locked and because there is no forum rule that boards in Site Feedback will be locked just because the feedback is not going to result in a change on the site at this time.

It wasn't an official reprimand, since that's not something I'm able to do. There was also no red bar. (actually, I meant to post this without the red bar as well, so don't mind it. This is just me talking.)

There was only one topic of discussion that could be pretty interesting in this thread, and that's the idea that Bowl of Ebola only strikes people as a dark joke while say, Cup of Cancer or All the AIDS would rightly strike people as offensive, even though the affliction and the alliteration is the punchline, not the victims. However, when we start ranking diseases, start reducing real people and real suffering to numbers, start using statistics to debate just how offended somebody should be, that's not going to go anywhere good.

(as an aside, ebola is comparable to cancer and AIDs in that you are probably going to die, you are definitely going to suffer, and your body is going to fight so hard, through so much excruciating pain, that you're not even going to look like the person you were before you were sick. That's not something that a graph is going to tell anyone.)

I could have posted that originally, I suppose, but a wall of text on the bottom of the page is going to be glossed over, and THAT is the problem with this board and the crux of my annoyance with it (and the reason for my drive-by sarcasm.) This thread was posted soon after the gypsy items were renamed and dealt with. Some people were already on edge with that topic because they felt this was going to usher in an era of extreme political correctness. So now you get a misguided thread from someone that I assume just wanted to be sensitive, and what follows is eight pages of people shouting into a void, getting angry at points that aren't even being made. Nevermind the accusations of racism. Ugh. Ugh ughugh. No one is reading the thread and seeing the OP never came back to debate their reasons, and that no one is even on the side of removing the item, so they are punching at strawmen.

It has died down, but now every few days somebody sees the topic, sees the OP, skips countless posts about the same thing and jumps to the post button to argue about those darn SJWs and oversensitive types trying to censor and take away everything fun. IMO, it should be locked, because the bumping isn't going to stop and it's never ever going to go anywhere good.

My opinion is that this topic was made in light of the gypsy discussion (and because of it). However, people apparently assumed the OP was merely taken by fear because the disease had suddenly made it into the US/Europe (??), then other assumptions were made and statistics started being pulled. In the end, this case has always had a whole different connotation than the previous one and I honestly can't see any actual feedback coming from it besides "such poor jokes are bad and you should feel bad for having allowed it".

I understand there might not be grounds for locking, given Feedback's rules, but I also wish this was locked.

Even without the red bar, it was still a condescending comment from a staff member, and that's a really unprofessional way to represent Subeta as a company.

It's not that your point wasn't valid, and I'm definitely not advocating censorship, but there had to be a better way to phrase it. You're literally talking down to your customers here.
