This just steams my coffee. So I just got home from school, my neighbour was out on my way to the door so I said hello naturally and started a friendly conversation. My neighbour knows I've got three cats, two of them being black and my neighbour also knows I am studying to be a vet. Anyways in the middle of the conversation my neighbour asks me "May I borrow our two black cats for Halloween? I'm going as a witch and it would be cool if you would lend me your cats."

I'm sorry but my pets aren't Halloween decorations. I love them all year round!

Naturally I said no and tried to end things there, she then asks if I knew of any pet shelters or vet clinics that would lend her a black cat. I was completely disgusted!

Who does that?

Share your black cats stories or spread the love for black cats because Halloween is a tough holiday for them. Did you know that shelters don't allow people to adopt black cats in October because people will adopt them for Halloween and bring them back after Halloween is done?

I thought the reason they didn't let people adopt black cats during halloween was because they got mistreated.

Anyhoo don't people get the memo cat's arn't dogs they're not gonna follow you around unless they are some extraordinary cat. Ugh some people.

That is another reason, some people will torture black cats on Halloween whether it be religious reasons or not.

Clearly they have little to no experience. Maybe dress up a small dog with pointed ears.

This is Loki. He's mischievous and adorable and I want to make a Loki Laufeyson costume for him. He's also a super snuggle butt and will grab your hand and put his head under it and he's got a crazy motorboat purr. <3

My bf's mom recently put an incredibly feminine collar on him and he broke it in three pieces getting it off. Haha

How can you... lend someone a cat? lol, has this person ever been around a cat? Does she think it'll stay with her, or that she can drag it around and it won't be pissed off? I don't think anyone in their right mind would lend out a pet to someone they don't know very well, anyway.

Still, unbelievable that even nowadays there are some people who actually put stock in superstitions like that.

The long hair is Shadow (not named for her colour believe it or not) she is kind of mean unless she wants something. Squeaky is the short hair and she is the biggest baby of the three. I know she's not black but I'll give an honorable mention to Anarchy on the far right. She is as her name states.

I would FREAK OUT if someone asked to borrow one of my black cats. I have 2, and we keep them in a room with food, water, and a litterbox on Halloween night. I've heard of some terrible things happening to black cats so I'm very protective of my babies any day of the year, but even more so around this time.

I just don't get people who don't understand animals and their rights as living creatures. It can hurt just like you can. People not knowing how chaotic cats can be though, it's too funny for words and very sad at the same time. Anarchy looks like she's planning something.

I'd freak too. Halloween is not a big thing here so I doubt anyone will ever ask.

I don't have any decent pictures of him, but I own a black longhair polydactyle cat named Hannibal. He acts more like a dog than anything; he comes when called, begs for treats and is generally a big goofball sweetheart who loves everybody. He's also leash trained (Or as much as a cat can be anyway.) though I lack a proper harness for him at the moment, not to mention the fact that I wouldn't really want to walk him in this area anyway. Too many untrained large dogs and kids who were never taught to ask before jumping all over someone else's animal.

If someone asked to borrow him as an accessory for a Halloween costume I'd give them a chewing out they'd never forget. If you need a black cat that badly then go buy a plastic one for $5 at Wal-Mart. It won't mind when the holiday is over and you throw it in a closet until October rolls around again. Seriously, I can't believe she thought a shelter would let her borrow one! Animals arn't accessories bitch!

That's my baby girl Nyx named after the Greek goddess of night, she is my world. Im not a fan of her getting outside just due to the fact that we have a lady in our neighbor hood who doesn't like black cats period. When she was a little younger she got out and didn't come home for 2 days and I was so worried. She finally came home and since then we haven't let her out. But i get so paranoid around this time that im like a raging monster when she gets out.

Why would anyone ask to borrow someone's pet like a cup of sugar or some tool? They are like your four legged children. You wouldn't borrow someone's child.

Here are my sister's black cats. The one is technically tuxedo but she's still black. Here The tuxedo one is Artemis and all black one is Kara.

I have a black kitty. We actually found him around Halloween. He'd been abandoned by the neighbors across the street, which is just awful because he's gorgeous and super sweet.

He's named Lestat. When we first brought him in he bit my cousin and left two perfect little marks, so... vampire cat. XD

Ugh, that's despicable that some people would treat animals like props or accessories. I would never in a million years say yes to that person (even though I don't have a cat, but still). If she's that desperate she should just buy a stuffed animal toy.

I has a black kitteh ! Her name is Lucy Fur and she's a lovebutt. She likes to ride around on my shoulders, climbs back and forth on them and uses my boobs as her balance point. She's VERY mouthy, though and will cuss you out if you put her down before she is ready. She will be staying in as Halloween gets closer, because I don't trust people.

Here black cats are normally killed, tortured and such because of superstitions and religious stuff, it's quite sad, I love kitties and black cats are beautiful!

Hearing that someone actually had the nerve to ask someone 'can I borrow your cat', that's just stupid and crazy. Does that person actually think they can watch 2 cats that aren't even theirs without something terrible happening to them?

Black cat story - When I was super young, like 4-6, I tried to glue a crescent moon shaped jewel to one of my black cats foreheads because I was going to be Sailor Moon and I wanted a Luna to match. lol. Didn't work at all, so I ended up not taking a Luna. I know it sounds mean, but I was young.

We have a black cat. We call our the rescue panther, because he sleeps on our dresser like the panther in the insurance commercial. No one has asked me to borrow him yet, but I'm sort of waiting on it. The lady across the hall from us is a nut. When we were moving in, she heard one of the cats crying because he was locked in the bathroom while we had the main door propped open and she was like "Oh, if you decide that you don't want him, I'll take him." I was like "wtf, I literally just met you five seconds ago......"

I had a black cat when I was a little kid too. My mom says that I drug it around by its tail and dressed it in doll clothes and carried it upside down and stuff. Apparently it also never bit or scratched me because it just loved everyone that damn much.
