LOL Yeah, Batman's got issues... Which is why I like him. While I'm neither rich (more like impoverished) nor grieving the violent death of my parents (my mom's still around and my dad's passing was a relief because he had been in so much pain), I can relate to his kind of crazy I guess.
Two points where we differ (and that's fine!) are: 1.) The statement that he only fights street crime in Gotham... Batman's a member of the Justice League, which is kinda like DC's version of the Avengers. They fight injustice all over the world, not just their home turf. Mind you, not every version of Batman becomes a member of the League so those versions would be Gotham-centric and thus render the statement correct with provision. 2.) I don't think it's just about avenging his folks... I think that's why he starts, but that he continues because feels a personal responsibility to protect the city... Protect those who can't protect themselves. (That last bit is a common theme with superheroes.) But not all writers write him like that... Some do have him constantly referencing the death of his parents, so again correct with provisions. (I just don't think that those people have a good handle on who he is supposed to be, who he is in a lot of other cases.)
I've never been the type to expect everyone to share my opinions, even though there are instances where I wish they would. However, this is not one of those instances. Characters are subjective. I know my *canon version of Batman doesn't always match DC's intent but it's still fun to see someone else's take on him. Even if someone disliked my characters from my stories, I wouldn't get upset. I would be pretty disappointed if no one liked them though. (At this rate though, no one's ever gonna get to see them but me because I can't finish. a. story. So, not an issue? LOL) I'd go cry in a corner or something. >.<
*I also have a non-Canon version of Batman in an off-site story, who definitely wouldn't fit the original intent.
I just thought of some other movies I like that seemed to be disliked by others.
Dude, where's my car. I'm not a huge fan of comedy but this movie is so silly that it made me laugh until my sides were sore (And then? And then?). When I looked it up recently I was surprised to see that it has gotten some horrific reviews stating the movie is not funny and the storyline is very weak.
The Blair Witch project. This is another movie which had pretty good reviews, but everyone in my environment seems to hate it, saying the shaky camera makes them sick and that you couldn't see anything,... This was a movie that had me on the edge of my seat!
The haunting. Another movie that had terrible reviews. It's been a while since I've seen this movie but I remember I absolutely loved it when I first saw it.
I saw Splice and I liked it a lot. It does have it's awkward moments (if you know what I mean ;)) but I did not mind at all!
The Legend of the Guardians is another movie I really liked. The visuals are absolutely stunning! I own this movie on DVD, but it looks as if I'm watching a Bluray. It was critisized for it's weak story, but I didn't mind the story at all, I thought it was quite interesting and wasn't bored while watching this movie.
The reviews for War of the Worlds were mostly positive, but when I read reactions of non-critics about this movie on the internet or listened to what my friends had to say about it, they always seemed to dislike the movie for a screaming Dakota Fanning. I think it's pretty realistic that a child would respond like this when being hunted down by Tripods :p. Another remark I heard is that you don't see much of the action, like cities being destroyed etc., but that is a thing that I loved about this movie, it gives it more of a Hitchcock feeling. And the action scenes that are in the movie are pretty amazing. This is one of my favourite films btw :).
Hook did receive a lot of negative reviews for being too syrupy and sentimental. And Brother Bear for a weak storyline.
I also read your comments on Batman. I totally respect your opinion on this character. He is majorly flawed, but in a way that makes him appealing too. A character like Superman for example is perfect, but Batman has his flaws and I like that about him :). I must admit that there is a difference in how he's being portrayed in the first films by Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher (especially the latter shivers) and the Christopher Nolan films. To me he's more of a real character in the Christopher Nolan films. I have not read the comics and didn't see a lot of the animated series of Batman, so I can't give my opinion on that :p.
I am familliar with the title "The Lone Ranger", but I had no idea what it was exactly until I read some of the reviews. And indeed, a lot of the critics were comparing the film to the TV-series. That might be the reason for some of the negative reviews. I also read some complaints about the length of the film and the overkill with the action scenes. But that is a very common complaint about Gore Verbinski films so I'm not surprised lol. I should really watch this movie, I'm quite curious!
Lol, I'll watch them then, I can handle trippy movies :p.
The Cube movies were AWESOME! You know, awesomely bad. I'm always down for a Cube marathon!!
- i would love to watch all 3 of them in a row but my roommates have officially decided i have a crappy taste in music and movies. ;_; our video store only has 1 and 3. as much as the second one pisses me off, it's still part of the set.
Haha, yes!! If I'm just watching 1, it's 1 or 3 for sure. But I do love a marathon...watch , put on while making dinner, eat awesome feast during !! :D
I love crappy movies. My husband and I stayed up so late last night watching Core. HILARY SWANK FOR PRESIDENT
- i have not seen core. i have heard of the movie THE CORE. i honestly have not seen a lot of "good" movies lately. most of the movies i see are on netflix now since i don't have tv anymore. last night, i watched the movie 6 souls. it had an interesting concept, but it shat on everything good that it could have been, especially at the end. @
I'm lol'ing so hard right now because I just googled it, and I've always called it Core because...on the cover, "The" is super tiny xD xD Oh wow. Observation skillz at work here! Haha, it's definitely called The Core, you're right!!
I'm not a huge fan of a lot of movies because my attention span is so short. Most of them can't hold my interest for long. I'm a half-hour-episodes kind of girl :D So why I like the 2 hour 15 minute long movie about the core is a mystery to me!
Yeah, I loved that ending too.
My only real problem with the movie was Tanto. I honestly felt like it was Jack Sparrow trying to be a Native American. That being said, I still like the character.
Oh, I thought of another movie everyone else seemed to dislike, but I love. Watchmen.
Brother Bear is one of my favorite Disney movies. I love the animation and the music. Weak story aside, I have no idea why more people didn't like it.
- that actually makes me lol too. xD honestly, i wanted to see that movie when it came out. it's got dj qualls in it. (the main character from the new guy.) i love dj quall's quirkiness and he himself is underrated. :)
i'm kind of like that. some movies are so freaking long it makes me antsy. because i have people in the family that rewatch the same movies over and over, i have a 1 year policy at least before i see the same movie again. i sit on netflix for hours just trying to find something, then i usually end up turning it off half way through anyway. xD
I have seen The Core a long time ago. The movie lost me when the birds started going crazy lol. Although some of the deaths were pretty good.
I looked up the movie 6 souls. When I type in this title on IMDb I get "Shelter". Is that what it's called? The concept looks pretty good indeed, but the critics on Rotten Tomatoes say otherwise, lol 4%. I am curious though! :D
While watching the trailer for The Lone Ranger I already got the feeling of an out of place Jack Sparrow. So that doesn't get better in the movie I guess? :p
Watchmen is another movie I own on DVD lol. I loved it too! :D
I really liked Brother Bear. The only thing that bothered me a bit were those moose. They had their funny moments but sometimes it was just a bit too much.
LOL and due to my paralyzing fear, the birds going crazy is a part that I DON'T watch!!! :D
Lol, that's not the ideal part to watch if you have a fear for birds! :D The movie is nice enough if you just don't think and watch. But don't look up any comparisons about real science and this movie lol. But then again, there's plenty of movies like that out there :D.
- the word shelter comes into play in the movie multiple times. it was called 6 souls on netflix though. i was confused a lot during the movie, it eventually gets to the point where the guy with multiple personality disorder pretends he's like different people and it gets irritating. he's just everywhere. it's not scary. it's not fully put together. the ending is shoddy. they set it up like there's going to be a second one. (oh god no.) it felt like it lasted forever too. it was a good idea, just done VERY badly. still don't know what was up with that ending.
I love the Resident Evil movies! I actually named my daughter Milla. :)
I guess! But I was too busy looking at Butch and waiting for Butch scenes to notice :P.
Wait but wasn't Johnny Depp adopted by a Comanche tribe? I heard he was.
Oh good! Because Rock N' Rule is extremely trippy! Especially the club scene!
I hate to say it, but no. It's pretty much like Jack Sparrow is dressed up as a Comanche native. He was still entertaining as hell to watch, though.
It's honestly one of my favorites. I've read and reread the graphic novel more times than I can count, and I really felt like the movie did it justice. I guess the mainstream population wasn't prepared for such a real and visceral take on superheroes. From what I remember, everyone was expecting something like a Batman or Spider-Man movie.
Haha, those moose. I remember for a while I kept saying "eh" after everything. ^_^;
Butch was a scene stealer for me, so I totally understand. ;)
Hmm, I believe he studied with them to get a better feel on acting out the role. I know Comanche tribesmen were on set during filming, to make sure things were authentic as possible.
Exactly! They had good references for Tonto's role. It was authentic!
IKR?!?! I wish he had more lines in the movie!! T_T. (Butch I mean) Hehe I named one of my pets after him.
Oh Brother Bear, I actually liked that movie :(. It had a really good theme! But yeah the moose kinda ruined the serious mood of it.
Sounds like a pretty awful movie, now I want to see it just out of curiosity! :D
I'm relieved to hear he is still entertaining!
I remember I was pretty surprised with Watchmen, just because it was so different from other superhero movies. But that is what I really enjoyed about this movie. I haven't read the graphic novels though.
Lol, that is funny, eh... :D
Woo! Legit! I love that :D
Speaking of naming people after "bad" movies...I'm so tempted to name a daughter Ripley after the Alien movies xD She would be such a BOSS!!!!!
