After a minute or so of remind himself to breathe and be invisible, Zero looked over his shoulder cautiously Nothing, nothing, noth- oh crap it was her. Staring at him. Just staring. Why was she staring at him like that? Oh gods, she really did hate him!. I have already earned myself hatred. he thought to himself. Frantically, he looked for an escape rout. Aha! A near by store, but first food. He stuffed his sushi down as quickly as he could muster, but his sneaky escape plan back fired. He began to choke on his sushi. He coughed and wheezed, he thumped his chest. Finally after making a minor scene he coughed it up. Several of the students who had been eating watched plainly as he choked. Thank s for the help. His last bit of sushi hung from one of his many teeth. He looked around again as he tried to smoothly walk away. But he wasn't paying attention and tripped. Gods, did he always have to embarrass himself so much? Clearly, their answer was, yes.

Aaron smoothed his shirt down the red fabric hanging limply on his body reaching just above his shorts so that if he were to raise his arms he would expose the bottom of his stomach, unfortunately it was the only shirt he had, the rest were destined for the laundry and the red colored shirt with the tacky logo on the front was all he had left. He pulled on some shorts mentally planning his day out. He'd go to the cafeteria and pick up some food having slept in too late to attend his assigned course. He had a few classes after lunch and would go swim for a while before work. That was one of the downsides of his job, it caused him to stay up late giving him insufficient sleep to wake up in time for school. Aaron grabbed the grey sweater off of his bed topping off the sloppy ensemble. Jogging down the stairs of the Marine Co-op he nodded at a few of the other students, he hadn't been here long but had already made a few - well they weren't friends exactly, acquaintances more like.

It was chilly outside as he made his way to the Cafeteria, though as he observed the general populace it seemed he was the only one. Selkie thing he supposed. "Hey," he nodded at an awfully good looking human. Humans were far better looking than his brother had led him to believe, he remembered when they were younger and his brother told him about all the beautiful elves, dryads and nymphs that wandered the earth. He never once mentioned the beauty of the humans nor the fact that gods wandered the earth, facts he was sure just happened to slip his brother's mind.

Aaron pulled open the door of the cafeteria the quick strides of his long feet taking him quickly into the cafeteria. Walking quickly in large strides he almost ran into another student. He appeared flustered with a bit of sushi still hanging from his pointed teeth, "you alright mate?" he reached towards the student.

Zero looked up from the ground after picking himself up off the ground. Who was this pretty, scaled boy in very short shorts? If he face could be a deeper shade of purple, this display, he was near heart attack levels. Zero wiped his mouth and backed off a few feet. This odd person was probably someone to avoid. "Sor-ly I ai-m ok-ai. Tank yu-oo." His broken English attempt to apologize. It seemed it was the only thing he will say in this school. If he was lucky he could say that one phrase in perfect English by the end of the day. Now back to his escape. He tried his hardest to not be rude and inch himself away from the horned lady and this awkward person and no longer embarrass himself. "I hai-v-a to go. Sor-ly again. Not me-am to joomp yu-oo." He meant bump but did not catch it and tried to turn away."

Aaron watched as the boy stumbled backwards from him, "Are you sure you're okay?" The boy began to speak, his English wasn't great and it took a while for Aaron to understand him. Aaron was just like him when he took his first steps on Earth. Not only the broken English but the general awkwardness and confusion, on more than one occasion Aaron had almost revealed his true nature as a Selkie. That was all fine considering the fact that the humans had become more accepting of the supernatural, except for the fact that when Aaron had first landed he'd chosen to land in a small fishing village. Not the smartest idea for someone who was after all half fish. He watched as the boy tried to back away. Aaron walked after the boy, he was always up for making new friends, and the kid seemed nice enough. Aaron was always a sucker for the most awkward and socially dysfunctional people. "Where you headed? I'm Aaron by the way," he introduced himself, perhaps he was throwing too much information and too many questions at the other boy. He looked down at himself, realizing not for the first time in his life how truly awkward and strange he must have looked. "It's laundry day," he said by way of explanation, the scratchy shirt would likely produce a rash later on causing him to to shed more scales than he could count. "Nice teeth by the way, I would kill for a set of chewers like those, too bad I'm a Selkie," he sighed dramatically, "I was born to be beautiful."

Zero was more then surprised by the boy following and even more that he was smiling at him. Like the elf lady, he guessed. But this one was following him. Why was he following him? The elf lady said something about fighting and walked away. Maybe he hadn't offended this guy, or scared him. Zero really didn't understand most of the things he was saying. He understood words like: teeth, my, kill, bad, two, and okay. He hoped he wasn't afraid of his teeth like most were, especially a fish boy like him. He smelled like fish, why did he smell like fish? Didn't he realize a shark person like him ate fish? Oh gods! Did he think he was going to eat him? He snapped his mouth shut and looked down. Oh wait! There was away they could talk. He quickly pulled his smart phone from his pocket and typed out, "I no little English. Only Japan. I name Zero. I not eat you" , then showed it to the boy. Hopefully he would understand. He didn't remember much from English class. He honestly thought he would never use it. He should have paid attention. He knew what he was going tonight after he locked himself in his room.

( No problem :) ) Aaron had always been the type who rambled when people didn't stop him. It wasn't that he was awkward, it was that if the other person didn't talk he felt the need to fill the spaces. As this boy didn't talk much Aaron continued talking about the classes he was taking and how he'd just recently moved into the Marine Co-op. The boy shoved his cell phone in front of him, stunned Aaron finally shut up. "You're from Japan then..." he read further, "Zero?" He didn't comment on the last phrase as he didn't quite understand the context of it. This guy, Zero seemed pretty nice despite his large teeth. Perhaps that's what he meant, that the teeth would scare Aaron away. Aaron scratched his head, "Um, I won't eat you too?" His brand of Selkie tended to be pretty subdued until they came across humans. The mortal human was just alluring, they appealed to the Selkie not only as meals but also as mates. It was for this reason that Aaron had gone on land rather than find himself a new pack of Selkie to travel with. "I'm a Selkie..." he explained then remembering that Zero knew little English began to act it out. He acted out diving, tried to mime a tail on his body, a trident in his hand. Despite being in theater he was never too good at the acting game charades. Finally giving up he took out his phone and typed out his words, I'm Selkie - sort of like a merman, what're you?. He learnt that was generally a rude question in his first days on land but he lacked any sense of shame and asked the question anyways.

This. Guy. Talks. A. LOT. The whole time he typed, the guy didn't seem to stop for a breath until he read the message on his phone. Then he just looked confused for a second. Then came the weird part. He began to flail about and point to himself, making odd shapes with his hands. Was he seizing? Should he call the hospital? Zero bet they didn't speak Japanese. This guy was gonna die. As if Zero couldn't be more surprised, he took his phone and started to type. When he read the message he had no idea what a selkie was but merman made more sense. Some people called him that when they wanted to be nice about. The grey man nodded the began to type back. [b]"I shark man. I a like merman." He translated and turned it to the other. after giving him enough time to read he pointed to his skin. It was rougher and darker then the selkies but it wasn't that much different. Except the talent part. Zero was only really smart and could cry gems. He was not going to bother and mime that out. He had embarrassed himself enough to day.

Aaron waited this time as Zero tapped away on his phone, resisting his urge to continue to talk. He wasn't shocked this time when Zero shoved his phone before him, reading the text Aaron did a double take reading the text twice before replying, reading the text aloud as he typed, I heard sharkmen eat mermen, is that true?. There wasn't an abundance of sharkmen where Aaron had lived, they'd run into a small pack on his way to land but were able to fend them off, the others had refused to talk about it or just simply didn't know the history between the two species.

Aaron continued to type channeling his ramble onto the screen, I heard this one time a sharkman and a mermaid mated and they were killed by their respective families - sort of a Romeo/Juliet deal.... He looked up for a moment glancing at his surroundings and giving Zero a chance to read the paragraph of nonsense he'd typed out. They'd wandered into a strange park where forest bordered one side and the rest of the school stood behind them. "Where were we headed exactly?"

Laura surveyed the area, noting the other buildings and the symbols on them for those that couldn't figure out the words. A tall guy walk by in shorts with scaled legs, Did he just say hey? she wondered, she doubted it but he was gone before she had a chance to reply to the greeting. Laura was at a loss of what to do, she'd already eaten before she'd arrived, and wasn't in the mood for large groups of people, "Maybe the library." she told herself before spotting the same guy again. He seemed to be having a conversation of sorts with another kid, she couldn't tell if they were actually talking, but she assumed they knew each other somehow. The pair walked by her, the taller one with the scaled legs doing most of the talking, "Eh, what the heck." she told herself, the whole point of coming had been to meet new people, and learn stuff. Laura began to follow the boys, her barefeet not making any sounds. Going barefoot was one of the perks of the summer, and not having to go to normal school where shoes were required, although she had a pair of flipflops in her room incase anybody objected to her style. The boys stopped at the line of a forest and she halted about 10ft away from them, "I don't think you were really going anywhere." she told them, sticking her hands in her pockets and looking down, hoping she hadn't scared them too much. "I think your feet were just going wherever they wanted." she told the ground in front of the others.

Zero had read the text. The others face was confused. His soon reply gave him a little more insight. His fear that that other thought he was going to eat him was true. Shark men often didn't eat mermen, not unless they were desperate at least. The second one made his eyes widen. Was this guy hitting on him? Yeah... that was not going to happen. Even if we was the only one he seemed he would have anything in common with here. Friends was much better. He grabbed the phone and began to type. "Only desperate eat merman. No date merman" Before he could turn the phone to the other, who was speaking again, not like his English had improved in five minutes, but then a woman's voices sounded out and made him drop his phone. He looked around at the girl, about his height. He scrambled to grab his phone, checked it over and it was fine. He erased his message quickly and typed. "You friend?" and tried his best to showed the other marine life the message. Who was she and why was she following them? He sure didn't know her. If this guy wasn't friends with her, he was severally creeped out. His face showed his uneasiness plain as day. What was with these people and just throwing themselves into conversations? This place was nothing like home. He missed Japan, were it was quiet, even the mean people.

Aaron looked down at the phone but only managed to catch a glimpse before a girl popped her head between them and the phone dropped to the floor. It was the same girl from earlier, the one he'd greeted earlier despite never having met before. Aaron snorted a slight smile on his face, "so my feet wanted to take me into the forest," he mused, "what does that even say about me?" he looked down at where the girl was looking, near his feet though it could be anything from the dirt, his sneakers or Zero's or his legs. "Are you checking me out?" His lack of shame roused itself again, "it's the scales isn't it? They say our scales shine so we can attract prey, reflectioooonnnssss!" He twisted his leg this way and that letting the sun reflect off of his scales.

Zero pushed the phone in front of him again and Aaron paused his temporary idiocy to read the message, "Am I your friend? Hell yeah, we're mates!" He exclaimed momentarily forgetting the other's lack of English understanding. "Oh right," he unlocked his phone and typed out his message, I suppose we are mates now eh. He glanced over at the girl, "He doesn't know much English - he knows Japanese though!" It was as if they were his accomplishments Aaron was bragging about. "I'm Aaron by the way" he pointed at himself then at Zero introducing his new friend "Zero". Aaron felt accomplished, it was his first day at the school and had already made a friend, or had bothered someone enough they could claim to be friends.
