To be serious for a moment, something tragic happened recently in Haiti. I'm not going to go into details because if you've turned on a television or listened to the radio in the past week, you've heard the heartbreaking stories of children trapped under rubble for 6 days, or mothers lifting stones with their bare hands trying to find their babies.

I know that right now, no one has much to spare. If you have anything, there are <a href=https://hopeforhaitinow.org/Default.asp>multiple charities</a> that will put your money to the best possible use in Haiti, helping people who need it right now.

I donated $25 last night via Canada for Haiti and every dollar that I donated, the government will match so in essence that was $50. My parents donated $50 to the school last week. Thank you for this post.

I'm glad this has been mentioned here.

I donated via text to the Red Cross. It comes up on your bill, but the money is obviously for a good cause.

Oxfam also a good organisation.

Most Krogers let you donate $1-$5 (or more if you want) at checkout. Even if it's not much, really, EVERY little bit helps. And you can text â€œHAITIâ€ to 90999 to donate $10 to American Red Cross relief for Haiti. (source: http://newsroom.redcross.org/2010/01/12/disaster-alert-earthquake-in-haiti/) The charge will show up on your next cell bill.

If you are like me, and don't have much spare $$, you can always contact your local newspapers, television stations, or radio stations to find charitable organizations who are taking donations of much-needed baby supplies, non-perishable food items, and bottled water. I am broke, but managed to scrounge up a case of bottled water and a bag of groceries to donate to a local ice cream chain in my area that was taking donations. Any little bit helps. Truly.

I've worked with the Red Cross in the past and I've donated to them already, as well as a number of other charities. I'm glad that in this way, we can rally together as a community and do all we can for the people of Haiti. If I could up and leave everything right now, I would be over there to help in a second. In the meantime, I'm doing what I can from here. Hopefully with the efforts of people like this from all over the world, they'll have Haiti settled soon enough and those who lost their houses and everything they owned and those they loved can start putting their lives back together. I'm keeping the people of Haiti in my prayers.

Keith .... Thank you so very much for this lovely homage to the people of Haiti. (My family and I all donated by texting Haiti to 90999.) I was bawling my eyes out last night during Hope for Haiti - the loss of life and devastation are truly horrific! The shots of all the babies just had me crying the most. What a great way to add to the much needed awareness of these people!

The disaster in Haiti is truly heartbreaking and the survival stories coming to light are amazing. Thanks for doing this to help build awareness and to encourage people to help out where they can. Once again you guys shine.

Would I have an idea for you Keith; if we want to help, how it would be if you take the money of the GM and contribute it for Haiti? If you should start a proclamation, would be would found transfers it certainly many users to pay that ready wÃ¤hren a GM for 1 month and you the money then. WÃ¤hre that a good suggestion? Natural that would have to become covered... It's just an Idea. ( sorry for the english, i use a onl. translator...)

I feel kind of bad wearing the bird when I have nothing to donate.. but I guess if there was a disaster in my city, I would feel happy to know people all over the world were showing their support with little tokens like this even if they didn't donate.

It's very nice of you all to raise (even more) awareness about it. Me being so young, I can't really donate money, but I was thinking about getting a money/item drive to send care packages. Love the item, such a tragic happening.

The MINUTE I get my new Blackberry Curve I'm gonna do that thing where you text HAITI to the Red Cross. I've been hoping to do it on my mom's phone, but she didn't pay her phone bill since she's getting a new phone too so hers has been disconnected. =( I'll pay the $10 to my phone bill myself. I think Haiti as a country needs to be preserved, seeing as I read online that their independence was gained from holding the first successful slave revolt. Seriously, the people who still think America is the country with the most problems after this should go live in Haiti. People in Port-Au-Prince (Haiti's capital city) are fighting and STEALING over any food they can find because there's so many more people there than any other part of the country. Ugh, this is just terrible. A little boy was just recently found ALIVE after being hidden under a bunch of rubble for a week. That's insane, and I don't know if he found water somewhere under all the dirt and rocks and dust or what. :/

With all of the organizations and groups appearing in response to the Haitian crisis, it's important that everyone "does their homework" and checks out charities before donating. Charity Navigator (a great site that investigates and reviews various charities across the spectrum) has a specific area set-up to take a look at which groups are legitimate and which ones are opportunistic vultures. My school managed to raise over $13000 in 5 days, so I really think it's great that people have banded together to help. Watching the stories on the news is really heartbreaking, I'll put the bird on asap

The earthquake was really a horrible thing, so I think this is a good way to show your support. Thank you! I'll definitely wear this.

My class will have a cake sale on monday and donate money to a charity. Even the cafeteria will be closed so we can sell as much as possible to raise money for these poor people.
