Attention Internet Explorer Users! There is a serious flaw in all modern versions of Internet Explorer, which opens up the chance of your personal information being stolen.

This is not an error with Subeta, or any website. This is a problem with the programming itself that allows malicious code to take advantage of your computer, and install malicious software, that could steal the information that you use for your banking, paypal, or other highly personal information.

You can find information about this here, here and here is a link to google news, with Internet Explorer as the keyword so you can get up to date news on the bug itself.

Also, I want to tell you that having a firewall does not prevent this from affecting you. Most virus scanners (unless this is used to maliciously place a known keylogger on your system) will not be able to help you in this situation. The best way to fix this problem is to get rid of the software that is causing it.

Now, I'm not asking you to switch to another browser. I highly advise that you move to another browser, not only because this is a very critical problem, but because the other browsers are just better. They use less memory, they are less bloated, and most importantly, if there is a critical flaw, the other major browsers are very quick to issue a patch and correct the problem. We are not being paid by either the Mozilla Foundation, or the Safari Team (or Opera, or flock to ask you to switch browsers. I simply care about you, our users, and don't want to see your private information stolen, or used against you.

The browser I suggest looking into are Firefox or Safari.

Doing a little research on all the major browsers is probably in your best interest.

Thank you Keith...major (((hugs))) it is just sad that BBC had to break the news before the US news stations would. Sadder yet, but thanks, that I had to hear the news here...on Subeta...before it was on my news homepage. NOW it is plastered all over the news and they, microsoft, MIGHT have a patch for it tomorrow. Once again you have proven how much you care about us

I would get one of them... but my computer would probably crash. It can't fit much more on it... I have tried the other browsers but again, they just commit complete murder on my computer. It's sad really. Thanks anyway... Maybe I'll try another one sometime... Maybe when it won't destroy mee =]

I used to whine all the time about how Firefox was irritating or didn't work; but since there was the wardrobe glitch with IE, I switched. It sounds cheesy- but it was probably one of the best decisions ever. Subeta works SO much better. Same with basically other website.

It's less bulky, and definitely safter than IE or any other browser I've used. It takes a bit of getting used to, but grin & bear it for a little while, and you won't regret it.

I found out why it's not messing up. I have AVG 8.0.

To those who can't switch browsers - I hightly advise you get it. It's free.

To people wondering if you should uninstall it-

I don't use IE at all, and neither does my family. But we kept getting these random popups from it despite not even opening IE. So I would suggest deleting it to be safe. =)

Linux + Iceweasel ftw.

While you're changing your browser, why not change your o/s to something a bit more secure as well

Open source fangirl. Why anyone would use MS anything is beyond me. This isn't the first security flaw, nor will it be the last. This is just the most recent, and covering a larger area at one time.

If you absolutely MUST use windows/IE, look into using it in a virtual environment, box it up. makes it a bit better. a 'bit'

Thank you for this! I was wondering what these stupid popups were from. x.x -deleted IE- I don't use it, but argh. x.x

I'm a little miffed that this is causing such a stir today, but has been known for over a week and a patch is expected tomorrow. shrug Seems like a lot of worry over something that'll be fixed pretty soon.

But, uh. It is very rude and ignorant to say that someone's preferences for a browser are "stupid". I've never been fond of IE but I know people I respect greatly who use the program, and I know their decisions are not based on ignorance or a lack of IQ. It is often better to keep inconsiderate comments to yourself or at least phrase them in less obviously insulting ways.

I'm primarily a Firefox user, but still used IE for a few things that wouldn't work for me in FF. A few days ago, I acquired Google's Chrome and have been using that in lieu of IE for those things. Sounds like it's a good thing I did!

Even without the threat, why would any intelligent person use IE? Seriously...it does not compare to FF and probably the others Keith mentioned. IE uses caching so when playing a game online you may get an outdated page and not an accurate real time view of your game. Example: items that you thought you had appear to not be there.

Ugg.. I told my mom about this and she got mad at me saying she was safe cause she had a firewall. I don't think there would be a big deal about this if firewalls could protect you.. Well.. I'm just glad I use Fire Fox... x.x

Firewalls don't prevent virus getting in... ///

Yeah I know. That's what I keep telling my mom but she doesn't believe anything I'm telling her about this.. Even when I tell her there are multiple sources on the matter. x.x

You aren't in any danger if IE is on your computer and you're not using it. It's just browsing sites on it that puts you at risk--you don't necessarily need to uninstall.

It should be is how I'm thinking it but I'm not sure waiting for a reply. Which it kinda sucks cuz my gf needs into her hotmail and shes afraid to use it now cuz of that and shes got like 40 e-mails in it.
