We are now releasing the Human Avatars! These will be displayed around the site (currently only in the forums).

You create and dress up these avatars by using the wardrobe page, and add items to it from your inventory :)

At the moment most of the clothes on the site should work. This is not a perfect system, and if some things don't layer correctly, don't be afraid to put in a bug report!

This is more of a testing phase, to work out the kinks and add new features to this system.

Have fun dressing up!

KEITH

Two questions:

  1. Can we get rid of our human avatars after we make one?

  2. Can we remove items out of our wardrobe after we put them in?
If not then can you add a "are you sure" feature like there is with plushies.

Sorry for all the people bashing this but could you answer these two questions. Thanks.

Sirvi, it DOES say that most (not all) are ok.

LooneyLupeGirL, I really don't think this is going to have as large of an effect as you think it will. Why would younger users (or anyone, really) flock to the site just for an avatar feature? And, as an adult user, I can honestly say I wouldn't leave the site just because more 'underage' users joined. Personally, I find that to be a ridiculous reason to leave the site.

As for the servers, didn't Keith say not too long ago that there will be some downtime in January because the servers are being updated or something?

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

Ah you beat my post.. Thanks Keith, and sweet dreams!

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

it seems not all cloths are "ready" to be worn...vampire cloak, camo jeans, and emo mini skirt are giving me a blank page

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

Oh ew.. I do hope it becomes possible to remove items from the wardrobe....shudders slightly I really do... and if it happens that we can, a quick stock feature would be lovelyL .. you know.. faster at least.winks

There will be a 'remove from wardrobe' feature for items added tomorrow.

I'm going to bed now, it's 5:30AM.

That was fun, and until I can get some of the gallery hoarders to cough up a few things(cackles, yeah right!), I think I am content.

Nice feature Keith/Team...

Ok, ignore my last question. I'm an idiot.

So I have discovered that if you delete your avatar, the clothes in your wardrobe will still be there after the avatar is recreated, whether they were being worn at the time of deletion or not. Good to know, but I still hope there is/will be a way to remove clothes from the wardrobe. Especially if we can't see what certain rare things will look like BEFORE trying them on. : clings to Mystical Feli Headband

Okay

Yes, adults can enjoy this site. Considering that most of the clothing items at the moment are geared toward adults (ie: lace bras, fishnet, etc), I don't see where that is a problem. I don't see how this feature is anymore child-like, than any new feature that would include working with pets. And I'd also like to ask how you would like us to make the site more adult-oriented, while still being focused on pets?

But, let me address your issues.

  1. Again, I don't see how this will happen. Most, if not all, of the clothing items are items that adults will enjoy more than children.
  2. As I've said multiple times, we are getting sever upgrades this month. We are moving to a grid-based system, which means that there will be virtually no downtime.
  3. If adults want to leave the site, that is there choice. However, while subeta is dedicated to it's user-base, we have to continue making choices that we think all users, both current and future will enjoy/benefit from. While it's clear that you will not enjoy this feature, you may enjoy one of the other features we have planned for the coming months. But, as you can see from the comments, most users are enjoying this feature, and will enjoy this feature.

So yes, we have thought this through, and we will keep working on this project. While you might not enjoy it, other users do. And as always, we are working on new content that we hope everyone will enjoy.

i'm with looney.

the teeny boppers are more likely to like this feature.

not saying dress up can't be fun, but...

whatever. i'm not the only one who doesn't like it. just i'm vocal about it.

SWEEEEET. Now I think you should come out with some more pants, and especially some shorts!?

This will keep us busy for a long while. Good luck with getting everything as perfect as, uh- possible. and thanks for keeping the site interesting.

One would think that after a YEAR, they would have thought about the impact it would make on the site.

I am liking this very much, but am also wondering and hoping like a few others that there will be an option to remove items from our wardrobe. I purchased a barely buyable item that I dislike on my avatar. I assumed things could be removed to be resold since there is no are you sure this can't be undone pop up like everything else that is irreversible.

i am hoping this was an oversight and a remove from wardrobe feature will be added. Other then that definite thumbs up to the staff on this one.

Ok get mad flame me w/e i don't really care anymore .. this has got to be said..

Ok first this site is concidered a pg-13 site.. meaning adults could actually enjoy this site without having the same issues as another petsite..
and yes i know the artist worked hard on this ..
but i must say this site keeps getting more and more child like every day... this is only going to do a number of things when word gets out..

  1. attract alot more underage users..
  2. cause the servers to crash even more (due to more users).
  3. make most of the adults leave this site (cause of 1 & 2 etc..)..
this list could go on forever but im ending it here..

Seriously did you even think about what this would truely do to the site (like actually think it all the way through and weigh all possiblities) before doing it??
next time someone tells me don't worry you will be excited and like all the changes we have planned for 2007 (or any other year for that matter) I am gonna tell them yea right tell it to the wall.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

i'm using FF and it's fine.

Did you actually put clothes in your wardrobe?

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

Already got (most) of the stuff put on for the new avatars, however, could the team make it that we could equip weapons to the avatars too (heh, avatar battles........)

Looks like you need to add clothes to your wardrobe first before playing with it. lol
Anyway. YEY.

Having pet dressups would be cool. But obviously the artists would have a very hard time drawing ALL the pets and ALL the clothes one by one for each pet.
And maybe future pets would take a MUCH longer time to be released.

Human avatars ONLY please.

luckymax - dont tell users to hush up if they dont like something - if people arent vocal then how are staff supposed to know when the MAJORITY is unhappy?

personally i cant hate on this; its a good idea and it brings a purpose to hundreds of items on the site, better balancing the economy.. eventually.

and i'm the first one to complain if theres something i dont like about subeta - so take this comment into thought.

I'm having a blast with this xD But a question if I may? (and sorry if it's already been aswered) Anyway we can remove clothing from out Wardrobe? I don't want to put an expensive piece of clothing in my wardrobe and then find out it looks bad on me (-holds tanktop up- I knew I shouldn't have eated so much on Christmas e.e;;; ) that and my clothing pile is getting big really quick because I can't seem to make up my mind x3 So being able to remove stuff would be nice :3

Lets weigh the options .

We have:
A - Human avatars, with two bases. Thats a maximum of two images for each clothing item.
B - Pet avatars, with 50+ bases (and a new one each time a new pet is released). That means each clothing item would have had to have been drawn for every single pet, plus future pets.

For a team of volunteer artists, that seems like a lot of work, on top of items, and pets.

We do have a way to implement pets into this, which you will see in the future.

Pets in clothes = millions of images for every pet/color combo, tons of work, and really scary. And maybe he felt like having avatars... That's why.

I'm referring to the fact that this site is not catering to PETS anymore.

Why didn't you let us dress up our pets instead? I don't understand your logic.
