We are now releasing the Human Avatars! These will be displayed around the site (currently only in the forums).

You create and dress up these avatars by using the wardrobe page, and add items to it from your inventory :)

At the moment most of the clothes on the site should work. This is not a perfect system, and if some things don't layer correctly, don't be afraid to put in a bug report!

This is more of a testing phase, to work out the kinks and add new features to this system.

Have fun dressing up!

For those saying give you a choice--you DO have a choice. If you don't make a human avatar, you'll be using your custom avatar in forums instead. So if you want to use your custom, just don't make a human avatar? o__O

Creating an option for the forums where you could choose not to see the dolls would be nice. That pretty much solves the problem.

"There is a reason that they made it optional!"

But all of us don't have Gold Accounts, so our only other option is a blank box for an avatar. I was planning on getting a Gold after the holidays, but now I'm going to wait because I don't care for the problems the site is having, the change in wizard quests & now avatars. So I'm going to use a blank box & reconsider getting a gold account.

I think it is a great idea. I am way over 30. I collect plushies in real life. I am an adult in my 50's. I enjoy dressing my Av.

I haven't been able to try it yet because the site keeps going down, but I already don't like it. This is just like the Yahoo Mail avatars. And after I worked so hard & spent so many SPs collecting secret avatars, I wish they'd given us a choice of using these or keeping the old ones. Now we know why we got clothes for items in exchange for the old avvies, but I didn't like any of them so sold them all. Bah. I want my pretty snowflake avvie back.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

I do think this is an interesting option for some, and I'm not going to bash it. I may use it myself, but I do prefer avatars. xD I do want to thank you for giving us the option of using a human avatar or custom.

The only thing I hope for is a more reliable server. This site is constantly going down...I think the majority of my time on here is waiting for it to be fixed, that is if I have the paitence to wait. I just want to suggest that being a first priority as opposed to these cool new features some people just can't be greatful for. I mean first it gets so bad with the custom avatars that comments have to be disabled and now people are saying the dress up stuff is childish. There is a reason that they made it optional!

I'm not complaining, I think XD, about these new features. I personally think they are going to be enjoyable. I am, however, complaining about all the errors and server restarts I have encountered throughout my subeta time. Maybe that can be your next surprise? A reliable server...I know you wouldn't have as many bashers as you do for these new features if you did that. XD I'd be delighted beyond comments!

OMG! I love this!
@ LooneyLupeGirL : I know tons of adults (mostly Japanese) that play sites with dress up characters like that. Almost all my friends that play a site with dress up characters (Gaia) are adults. So you really should be quiet now because you're annoying

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

This is so awesome! Though there really should be a quick-stock option for putting clothes in the wardrobe, doing it one-by-one is driving me nuts.

I cant wait till all th bugs are worked out!! And we can put more clothes on them! I love this, the over all charcter drawing is a littl e lacking but I love the idea! What use for clothes where there before this?

Mine is semi-working.It'll show the arm warmers and collar together but when it loads the glasses it spazzes and won't show the other stuff.Oh well,I'm sure they'll get it worked out.Cool idea. (finally, something to represent me besides my pets.lol)

Was really skeptical that this was gonna turn subeta into a dress-up Sally website.
;x but I guess it's not so bad... I do agree that a quickstock to wardrobe feature would be nice though. xD; -manually moving 50+ clothes one by one on dial up- ;x ohboy. I'll be at this a while...

it doesnt work for me... :S

atleast not with my current avatar...

well, vladthebad, if you do not create the human avatar you can keep your current one

And even if you do create one, you can delete it and revert to the one you are using now

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

And I agree with Kich (sorry for the double post) I'd really like the option to keep my custom avatar, if it were available. If not, I'll still use it outside Subeta.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

Interesting idea, Keith. I don't think I'll be making use of it personally, for a while. Dress-up simply isn't my thing. But I'm sure that the majority of the site, both young and old will have hours of fun with their character! And now we see why Gabriel gave out clothes! Thanks for the updates, and striving for original pet site ideas.

I firstly couldnt see reason why to remove clothes from wardrobe. But than i understood, WHAT TO DO, WHEN IN WARDROBE IS TOO MUCH ITEMS, THAT ALL THOSE ITEMS SLOW DOWN INTERNED AND STARTS TO BE ANNOYING???????

Well, I'm not in my 30's. I'm older heh, and I enjoyed dressing my character--and that's how I think of her. I would appreciate more in the way of hair styles, etc. but that will come, I'm sure. This is new, and represents a LOT of hard work.

As to the "adult" clothes, I do have to agree that the current selections are a bit " martian cheese merchant ty" unless you go for a casual look, which I like very much when I'm not working, so it's no problem for me. A bit of "fashion elegance" wouldn't go amiss, but overall, a fun thing to have, I think.

I come here to relax with friends and simple pleasures. I'm never disappointed. To quite a wise saying: "You don't stop playing because you grow old; you grow old because you stop playing."

Well I do believe we have a choice, if you don't created that human avatar you can keep using your normal avatar, so it's up to you to choose what you like

And I believe Keith said that if you are using the human avatar and wants to revert to the normal avatar you just click on delete avatar in the wardrobe

wait... cant i take the items out of the wardrobe after putting them there?!

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

I don't have anything against this new thing.. Just let us keep our own avatars. I don't want to lose my demonic rawr -avvie. I still want to use it. Give us the choice to decide which one to use? That would be awesome. Everyone would get what they prefer that way, so everyone would probably be happy.. right?

I think this is the sort of feature that people need getting used to. Believe me, I wasn't all "yey! sunshine and daisies!" when I first heard about it on NC either, in fact I was very apprehensive, but I think it was done well and it came out good.

LooneyLupeGirl - If thinking of them as dolls bothers you so much... think of them as models! There are no child fashion designers, you know

I find the fun challenging thing for me is trying to make the avatar look as much like me as possible. What sorts of clothes would I actually wear? What sort of clothes fit my skintone and eye/hair colour? (this would be my opportunity to bother Keith about making actual auburn-copper hair like I have in RL, bother, bother). What clothes say the most about me?

I've never enjoyed clothes shopping in RL, mostly because of the tedium of trying things on, the frusteration when things don't fit (seriously, I can try on 15 pairs of trousers and have maybe 2 fit ;- and the stress of being on your feet for hours. I never thought I would like fashion or be into it at all in any way because of that... and then these dolls came out. And I found myself enjoying dressing them up... trying to pick out colours that go together, things that look nice (classy and understated plzkthnx). It's a lot of fun, and something I'm not sure a child would appreciate the intricacies of.

This is an interesting addition to subeta! thanks to everyone who helped to make it happen!

(Also I don't understand why anyone would be so unhappy about a new feature being added to subeta-since you do NOT have to use it if you don't want to...)

Oh this is so great for the enconmy! Subeta amaze me more and more, so very clever! Finlay something to do with the clothes! And the wardrobe isn't working, I hope its not cause im useing a mac. Anyway I think it would be awsome to have these avatars on our profiles as well (if they aren't already I don't know) The minions idea is great also, or even haveing our active pets next to us, just a thought. And as a side note for all the people who aren't "childish" enough for them, then don't use them simple as that. You still get to upload any avatar you want so why complain?

I haven't given these a shot yet, but I might. I don't honestly have a problem with them and I would be classified as an adult as well seeing as I'm 21.
It's true that something of this nature might be seen as childish in its very idea, but truth of the matter is subeta is a pet site and pet sites in general are geared in some aspect toward a child audience.

Most of the pet sites; in fact, all the pet sites I've gone to are generally more geared toward children. The fact that they are isn't necessarily a bad thing and really, this feature can be either good or bad depending on what the person makes of it.
If someone doesn't want to use it or doesn't like it, simply don't use it.

Well, I'm 35 years old and have been playing with my cute little human avatar since she came out, I am still trying on all kind of clothes on her

This is NOT only for kids (maybe kids at heart )

I think this is an awesome new feature, I love it very much (I wish we could put minions in our wardrobes though and be able to have a little minion beside our human avatar )

::shrugs:: I don't look at it as 'playing with dress up dolls.' It's a cool way of putting an image with a username. It gives you an idea of what the person might be/look like. It's just another cool way for people to express more of their personality.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

I don't think he mentioned anything in that post about dressing up pets. He mentioned the pets, but not dressing them up.

As a teenager, I personally don't sit around playing with dolls. But I am on a pet site, something childish in it's very nature. You, an adult, are ALSO on a pet site, something childish in it's nature. Even though I don't think this is the most childish thing to add to the site, I'm going to ask why, if you are so averse to a little bit of childishness, are you on a pet site, then?

- No, I'm not getting you confused. I was just bringing up the point that this is a Virtual Pet site, and that it's slightly contradictory for you to say 'Oh, adults don't play with doll's, but when I was younger, I used to say 'Oh, what adults play Virtual Pet Sites?'. So I was saying, how can I make a virtual pet site, geared toward adults, without adding any features kids might enjoy?

I am listening to you (and I do listen to users There was a lot of feedback that went into these, believe me) and we are working on some things that adults will enjoy (even though as a young adult, I enjoy these avatars)

  1. Yes. You just click on the 'delete avatar' link.
  2. Read down - I said this option will be added tomorrow.

Now, really. I'm going to bed.

ok keith i think ur getting me and Amy (Nightflame) confused.. as I never said anything about dressing up pets instead..

as far as the "adult: themed clothes go no adult unless they work in the red light district would be caught dead in them..
I seriously see dress up dolls (regardless of clothing styles) as a thing focused more on the child- teen age groups... I mean come on be serious how many adult do you know that actually play with dress up dolls??

as I can tell no matter how i word any of this trying to make my point and can talk till i'm blue in the face that you just dont get it..

so w/e I might as well be talking to my shoes or something..

all i'm saying is if you want the majority of adults on this site to actually stick around then stop adding things based on child- teen groups..
