I never said they were getting too 'cute' previously. But, that's what happens when you have a lot of people commenting on the same thing. You're going to get a variety of view points, and some from opposite directions as others.

Okay, so..
Last time I saw someone say "All of subeta's pets are turning cute!" Now it's "We're losing all the cute subeta pets!"

What? Which is it, seriously?

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

I love the nose area, and the expression is perfectly ambiguous. I love how big it is, it looks tasty..Whoever said "koi beast" was right, yet it's unique enough to not be an earthly fish. Wonderful job, I would've never expected the Torrent to be taken in this direction..so mystical yet with attitude.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

Simply.amazing <3 The Torrent -really- needed this revamp. And it should be big! Allows the tiny details and the entire image to be seen in all its glory.

See, it's not -supposed- to look like a goldfish or anything such. It's a Torrent, a Subeta pet, not meant to look like anything in particular. It wasn't modeled after any real life pet, similarities are just similarities.

But I still think Koi when I see this ^^ Which makes it all the more beautiful, as Koi are -gorgeous- fish.

Jag, you did WONDERFULLY <333

Oh, I like! The eyes are more expressive, and the 'shine' makes him look more fish-like (scales, wet, etc.)

I think the old one was cuter. This one is too fancy looking. I've noticed that a lot of the newer pets coming out are starting to look, I guess... fancier... less cartoony... shrugs I'm not sure what the word is I'm looking for. However, we shouldn't lose all the 'cute' pets... and some of the redraws to fancy from cute don't work. While it's probably better than I could do any day, my personal opinion is that the other one was cuter.

And voting for the new one just because it needs an update isn't really a good reason. You should always vote for the one you like better, no matter what. So what if the other one was 'old'... shrugs

Just my $1.50.

Most of you don't have a torrent? o___o I think the art is fantastic, and I don't see the 'pudge' on the new design, BUT IF THERE WAS I'D CRY HAPPILY SINCE PUDGE IS LOVE ;_____;

Jag worked her butt off, and I adore this design, it's so fluid and majestic and my head explodes and showers rainbows on her

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

Woooww. I love it. =33333
Its so shiny and purdiful, its a /bit/ big, but nothing to fret over.
The fins could be bigger, but again, its still not that much to me.
<333 Its awesome.

What's with the "no offense to the old artist" junk? Yeah, I drew the old torrent over a year ago, back when I was first learning how to draw.

I'm glad to see it redrawn. Not the way I wanted, but oh well. My old art is going to be revamped no matter what, since I had my start as a freelance artist here.

I believe someday, though, that most (if not all) of my art will be replaced by other works. In that distant future, I see that no one will remember who I am, or what I did. But every light fades away, right?

Awesome drawing, I couldn't have done any better.

...I liked Sooki's torrent though, it was quite cute.

Thank you for saying what I was thinking Dokuja. Torrent =/= goldfish. This is Subeta, not the real world.

It's a personal pet peeve of mine when people seem to start expecting the pets on this site to be realistic duplications of real life animals. I can appriciate the natural instinct to make a comparison... but one needs to remember that these are all mythical creatures, not real life animals.

With that said, EXCELLENT redraw. Very pleased to see the new Torrent doing so well in the poll.

WOAH. Big fishy. ._o I like the scales and the flowy fins, and the eyes are drop dead beautiful, but the antenne thing seems too squished in there, pluse, it's a little /too/ big.

Wow, that took awhile to choose o_O I was trying to image what the new Torrent would look like in colours (dusk, reborn, lilac etc.)

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

"cramped in the spot" right words for the expression.
with the alredy mentioned bigger fins this wouldn't be a problem anymore, or?
More fin > more space needed > smaler fish > the pic looks lighter.

And still love the art itself, just amasing the shininess, scales...

Holy jebus this scares me O_O!

Quote:

That.. is what scares me. Maybe make the fish it's self smaller, and it's fin's bigger? Cause honestly, the art is mucho better, but this thing scares the pah-jebus out of me.

Right, but traditionally these polls have been for voting on a final version.

The way I understood it worked in the past was if this one was rejected in the poll, the comments were taking into consideration and either the new version was tweaked or scrapped, and then revoted upon.

I'm sorry, but I like the old one better.
Don't get me wrong, it's amazingly drawn, but... there are just a few things that bug me.
Now the fins look really pretty, and look very flowy, but they don't seem big enough for a big fish like that. I agree with that one person who said it - a fish like this should have a bit bigger fins.
The eyes look so pretty and I like the little markings under them, but I don't think the mouth should be parted... it's a bit hard to see.
Last thing, I swear: it does seem pretty big. Not that big is bad, big pets are cool (I have a mortiking myself), but this little guy looks like it's a bit cramped in the spot.
It does look pretty cool though. I like the shininess of it (yay, shiny fishy!). I just... eh, I'm just not too fond of it. Sorry D: At least the majority likes it, so it'll still probably be on the site

I agree, Cyde, to some extent, but if size is the problem (which I honestly don't think it is until parts of the pet are getting cut off by the canvas) that's isn't like it's anything that can't be fixed so easily. I'd rather people vote on the quality of art right now and not something so trivial.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

...I love the pets that take up a lot of room. xD Like the Mortikings, and this newer Torrent. He looks cuddly. I liked the old one, and I don't mind the new one. Is very very pretty. <33

I like it, just the fins seem a bit 'skimpy' for the body. Like it would just drift in the water or have to beat those fins super fast XD
<brnly the pectoral fins would be the ones to change.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

I do think that it fits the site perfectly, especially in the direction the artwork has been headed lately. I wasn't fond of the Torrent at all, but I do really love its Koi appearance now.

Kelpie you're implying the quality of art should overrule all other aspects of the image. Thats a dangerous road to start walking down.

Im not saying we shouldnt aim for the highest quality art, but the quality isnt the only attribute Subeta needs in its images.

It is not big, they just used space... very well i might add.

Was this site ever going for 'cartoony' in the first place? To me it looks like a mix of the two anyway.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

The old one, no offense to the artist, reminds me more of a clown. The new one is much more fitting to the site, and I'd love for it to stay. I'd definitely consider getting one if they were to be voted as the new Torrent. Great job.

What needs to be understood is, we're -supposed- to use as much of the tiny space we have when we draw pets. Jag did an absolutely incredible job of that in this (this is a 200x200 pixel square).

In addition, it's gone from done-to-death typical goldfish to KOI. I don't think salmon when I see this, I think koi--which is a beautiful species of fish that can commonly be found in pond in japanese tea gardens, and also right here on Subeta as fishing prizes.

Eels are really long, and serpentine looking, so no luck there, either.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

I do like the use of the canvas space for the Torrent on its own, but I'm thinking that when it is viewed on a pet page, it is indeed going to seem rather large. I think that's what most people mean when they say "it's big."

However, I prefer this to the other one by miles. Its eyes and expression are fabulous and versatile. <3 to the artist.

Does size really have anything to do with the actual ART of one torrent versus another?

The only suggestion I can give is make the fins bigger, because they look so puny compaired to the big body . Longer flowy fins would look nice ^__^

That's the idea, NoirRaven. It's not a redraw, it's a revamp - it's supposed to make the Torrent look different from the previous version, more appealing to users etc.

The old version never had gills either - and, just as with the Feli not being a cat and the Kumos not being a wolf, the Torrent isn't a fish. It's a Torrent. X3

I don't get the whole 'too big!' thing. XD;; I mean... it still fits in the 300x300 space, and none of the body's been pushed out of the box...

its a little too "big" in my eyes. Mayby because it uses so much of the canvas without leaving space for background.
It smashes you down when you look at it.

This a little smaler and i would get an arid and get rid of all my other pets for it. Wonderfuly drawn!
(not sure with the ged-rid-part though )

Old Torrent never had gills. Remember, this isn't a fish you can truly relate to real life. It's a torrent.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

Absolutely gorgeous. I do agree that it is a little on the big side, but the detail is amazing. If this wins, one of my pets might wake up to discover that it has fins. xD
Not that the old torrent isn't nice, because it is. ^w^

Hmmm, I don't know. I voted for the new one since the eyes really attracted me, but I also hesitated because this one lacks character and is such a big change from before. Still very nicely done though with the shiny scales and all ^^. I'd love to see the other colros of this someday.

Considering that the torrent wasly wildly poopular to begin with, we thought we'd change it completely to see if people would like it more. I don't really get the whole Salmon thing either. This reminds me very much of a Koi. Those are goldfish, no?

Personally, the heavy fins were probably what I disliked most about the old torrent. I'm glad this one feels like the fins could "flow", if you will.

O_o It's way too huge... looks more like it could be a whole other species really. The Torrent has always been a "Gold fish" if you will. This is a "Salmon." And it cuts off the tail a bit which is usually the best part about fish. (To my eyes anyway.) The only other problem I see with this is the fins. With such a long body... the fins look awfully fragile... Either the body has to be shortened/slimmed down or the fins tight and stiff. This salmon needs fins of a salmon, not a gold fish.

Not to hurt the artist. The good points are, it's less cartoony/cute, it's more serious/anime looking and the details on the eyes are amazing.

If this is the pose you have your heart set on Keith then at least work on the feather light fins... A fish that long/large needs powerful/stiff fins...

Was this constructive enough for you?
