Esmerelda doesn’t have time for your nonsense. She’s busy deciding on the latest fashion trends and working to keep Subeta looking stunning. Details of the populace’s incompetence do not interest her.

But many things displease Esmerelda. Many MANY things. You’d have to try really hard to get her to stop what she’s doing and focus on you, though. If you can figure out what it is you have to do to grab her attention, be prepared for a one-on-one appointment with the most scathing personal critique of your life. That’s all.

Once you unlock Esmerelda, she will appear in the Secret Tab. Unlocking Esmerelda is not limited to just this month like with our Throwback Challengers. While we'll continue releasing a challenger on the second Thursday, you'll have plenty of time to unlock them.

I don't really know what I did to unlock her, I just showed up wearing one of my standard outfits and was immediately unlocked.

Private Outfit I do have several Subeautique invitations redeemed in the queue... I'm wondering if you simply have to be wearing a couple of Subeautique items. The RoqCandy Loish items I'm wearing are from an old Subeautique line.

What worked for me

I just piled all the Sui eye shadow in the order they are in the wardrobe by name black to yellow, bought a SubQ invite and went to visit her after redeeming it and unlocked her, as when I had zero invites nothing worked.

[spoiler] If it's two part, maybe one requirement is an item limit, as Yuzuru said it didn't work until they added the last (9th) item. So possibly having repeated items + minimum item number? Would fit with the idea of the "populace's incompetence" resulting repetitive, boring outfits.

Apparently wearing all the "cute nerd glasses" on an otherwise naked base works. So it doesn't need to be different items. [/Spoiler] This is making me far more curious than it should be.

I got a tad impatient with testing only a couple items at a time, so what worked for me is still rather general:

I began piling on Buffalo Check Skirts, one at a time, and refreshing on the main SubQ page each time. The refresh I added on the White skirt, I unlocked her. So maybe that triggered with something? I didn't end up using the full set of skirts: red was left out.

Here's the list of skirts I was wearing, in the order they were in. White Yellow Purple Blue Brown Gray Green Olive Teal

Hint for the solution

I'll share a bit of info since it seems no one has completely figured it out yet, but apparently there are two different requirements the items you're wearing have to satisfy for it to work.

I don't know for sure what those requirements are though, before anyone asks, but maybe this will help narrow it down a bit.

what I did...

After trying lots of the suggestions and nothing working, I clicked on Costerboster's outfit to view in wardrobe, clicked wear, visited the main subQ page and I got her! I have no idea how many of their items I actually had, guessing not many though. My theory: wear someone else's outfit to visit her. It makes sense with her comments about fashion sense. Wearing other people's outfits. Just a guess!

Some musings on what could work

I also have two "Rainbow" items on the foreground layer (Rainbow Bunny Bubbles and Rainbow Essence), since someone mentioned using two items on the same layer that share a word. Might be worth a try? Looking over the other avatars mentioned so far, I think the most likely options are either that, or that it's something related to the Sui items (just about every avatar that worked seems to have at least one of their items).

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure entering the Subeautique through the Centropolis page isn't required, at least - she seems to unlock on the Subeautique's main page (the one where you pick between Subeautique Clothing and Subeautique Makeup) regardless of how you got to the page.

Cheap items to test

A couple of posts are making me doubt it a bit but having different items + on the same layer + at least one matching word seems to fit best.

Maybe try and or and for cheap items to test?

This is making me really curious about the "correct" way to unlock.

30+ random items seems to have worked for me. I don't think any of the items I equipped were in the beautique.

You also have on Lavender Ballet Slippers and Purple Ankle Socks. Not from the same set, but both lavender and purple are in the same color family.

I think it's either related to a specific amount of items on one layer (maybe the Face later in particular, going by the outfits mentioned here so far?), something involving certain color combinations (or maybe the amount of colors), or... something with the Sui cosmetics, maybe? A lot of users who posted an avatar here seem to have one of that brand's items (like the eyeliners or blush). Might be worth a shot for anyone who didn't unlock her yet.

My current outfit worked without any changes: Private Outfit ...but it doesn't really have much in common with the other outfits mentioned so far aside from the make-up, so maybe it's something related to that.

Think I figured out how to unlock

Went with the outfit I had https://subeta.net/explore/subeautique.php and it didn't work. I then went to wardrobe, saw I had Sui Purple Liquid Liner and searched my wardrobe to find same but different colour. Sui Blue Liquid Liner, wear now. Revisited page & got challenger.

Summary: Wear 2 of the same item with a different colour.

I got her after I put all the Sui Eyeshadows on over my current HA... I do think it has something to do with having two items that are from the same set (possibly) that are in the same color family... Cerulean and Turquoise, Red and Crimson, Green and Olive, Blue and Navy... But I have no way of confirming my suspicion now... -sighs- Oh well.

METROID method worked for me

just began clicking a bunch of items in my closet loaded up 43 random items (many of them different color varients of the same item) wearing the outfit and was able to get her by refreshing subetique

I only used red, crimson and black so I don't think it can be that. I'm back to wondering whether it might be colour based on what Yuzuru said though. Not sure if it'd be too complicated to detect but maybe shades that don't quite match? Red and crimson, green and olive, yellow and gold, blue and turquoise, rainbow and aurora?

I just threw 29 random items on my HA, selected Wear Now and refreshed at the shop, and I got her. The solution must be overloading your HA with as many items as you're able to. My max is 30 total.

Maybe I'm coming in late to this, but does it have to do with color? Red and green are opposites on the color wheel, has anyone tried that? I already got it, but I don't know what I did.

I tried visiting Esmerelda while wearing all of the Tinted Lenses and Vibrant Marbles and it didn't work, but this outfit did: Outfit Not Found I kept adding one item at a time to see what exactly would trigger her, and once I got to the Sui Green Eyeshadow, it worked. No idea why, though...

Possible solution?

looking back at all the reported working outfits, Skrett's post/outfit specifically, I'm pretty sure it's having 2 or more items on that same layer with at least 1 matching word. As they said it only worked once they added the head items, which all have "hair"in the name.

cheap way that worked

I tried 's outfit (and I only had about half of the items. so you don't even need all) and went in through the map and it worked! All of the items are pretty cheap so this is one way to do it, I guess. Maybe it has to do with # of face items, color (since they were the same items but in different colors), copying, or a mix?

[Spoiler]The outfit I used only had red, crimson and black as named colours. 1 "crimson", 8 "black" and 5 "red", all different items at least one layer had 2 black items.

Maybe it's wearing items with the same colour name on the same layer if that one with the two "rainbow" items works?

It's can't be a copying thing, unless it's loading one of your own faced outfits, as I used one of my own saved outfits and it worked.[/spoiler]
