a little disappointed with all the eye/mouth items. a lot of them look really similar and i would have preferred more clothing/wigs/backgrounds. i felt like over half the options were eye items. really uninteresting.

I would hope at least when it comes to the final tally that if two recolors are up for a win that the staff will find a way to pick only one and that way we may have a variety of items winning.

Recolors didn't "bump" other entries out, fyi! All entries are reviewed on their own as to how well they fit the submission guidelines. As far as our suggestion to not just submit recolors it's because a) if you only submit recolors and there is some sort of issue with your submission then you've basically used up all three entries on the exact same error (non transparent overlays, and transparent item images were just two issues that came up on a number of entries), and b) it splits the votes and actually decreases your chances of winning. If 100 people like your design but you've got two colors up for voting, you may wind up with 60 votes for one and 40 for the other and have it turn out that individually the items didn't get enough votes to make it into the final winners, but if all those votes had gone to the same item then perhaps it would have. So yeah, you can do it if you want to, but we do generally recommend that you aim for more variety in your submissions in order to give you the best chance of winning.
I had a recolour of the carnation skirt in red but didn't make it All the entries are absolutely gorgeous, but I am sad that there are no fresh flower items ;o;
btdubs, thank you for allowing us to vote! Even if most of the stuff I picked doesn't win, the voting process itself (as well as good-naturedly haranguing others for their choices) is so fun and engaging for me that it won't be a hard blow. I really appreciate that staff runs contests like these which feature multiple layers of user involvement.

I voted but it was hard to keep my choices to ten because I loved all the eyes, even though I'm sure some of them are recolours. But considering it is the time of the zombies the eyes fit in perfectly. :)
Just for the record, I said nothing about the submitters. I don't blame people for trying to do it anyways, especially if they are a popular CW maker (or commissioned one) and it's a winning/profitable strategy IF they did make it through.
I blame staff for specifically warning against it, and then doing it anyways, lol. Should have just said nothing, and left yourself the option.
There are pros and cons to having recolours accepted into the contest, so I'm not complaining. It's a choice that the artist/submitter makes, and all the power to them if multiples of their item win.
BUT next time I really believe that recolours should be grouped together somehow during the voting process with each one still requiring a separate submission. If they're grouped then we can vote for all of them in one go, and people can't complain that recolours are taking over the list. Not to mention it will be easier to keep track of as well.

Recolor options shouldn't be this looked down upon, damn people. Don't like one color ? You have another to pick from ! Don't like the style ? Move on. It's another option, that's all. If you don't like options... Sorry ? An artist, or commissioner, should not be made to feel bad for doing something like this. Don't spoil things for others, you grumps.

Re: Only one colour was selected last time Both of my eye cw recolours made it to the voting stage during Peekaboo. Maybe it was a mistake, since it seems like some recolours didn't make it?
Good work to those who were selected this time around! There were so many to pick from - like said, I also wish that we could toggle votes for more than ten, then have them all highlighted with a warning like in the wardrobe.

so... i'm one of the people who did multiple colors of the same item, and i CERTAINLY didn't intend for anyone to "get bumped out" because of me doing recolors. in fact, i'm a little hurt that people are assuming that people would do this on purpose? i submitted multiple colors of the same thing just in case staff liked one more than the other. i'm not dumb, i can read the little "variety is the spice of life" bulletin on the guidelines. i assumed the staff would pick the one that most invoked the colors or spirit of the holiday and reject the others. and the reason i submitted multiple colors is because between commissions and life i only had time to complete one thing of my own - hence a recolor or two, because i wanted to have my bases covered just in case there were different participation prizes for doing two or three entries vs one entry. people aren't attacking people for submitting a hastily-drawn smiley face or a single black pixel as their entry, so why hate on people who did recolors?
my other point is that there are seventy entries. (i counted, lol) did you ever think that maybe the reason they included more recolors than individual items is, as a couple other users have said, because the bulk of submissions did not pass the CW-standard approval process? (not hating on anyone whose art didn't make it in; in fact two of my commissions didn't make it into voting and during peka boo only one of my designs even made it into voting.)
i was really happy to see so many commissions i completed made it into voting. and now i kind of feel like shit and like people hate me or resent me for submitting recolors. it's kinda messed up, haha.
Well done to all who entered, the work is amazing, and lots of variations to choose from, Id buy quite a few.

i like how versatile a lot of the items were!!!! this is nice since i tend to vote for the ones i think i would use the most tbh the dangling eyeball one is definitely my favorite but i wish i could pick 13 items instead of 10 ;_; good luck to everyone!!

The black/white thing is probably why it didn't make it to selection then. Because I've had issues where an item works well on a lighter base but looks completely different on a dark base (though my issue was with some lighter accents/contouring, which is annoying because there are so many dark or white items out there and those aren't going to work as well on a darker base as they would a lighter base (and vice versa) and it's annoying that it has to accommodate both. I understand WHY it does but still, it makes things more difficult to be able to work with both. Either way, if you do change it up to be submitted as a CW, I can't wait to see it. ^-^ I'm sure if you want it as a CW makeup and submit it then you would get advice on it as to why it didn't make the cut which would give you information on what you need to do to edit it. I'm not an artist myself, but I've commissioned many CWs by now several of which got rejected so I have a vague understanding of what they're looking for and know a few of the very weird reasons they've rejected an item.
Also, everyone complaining about recolors, yes it is annoying that there are so many, however like I mentioned in a previous post, in the previous competition they really only allowed/picked one color of recolors so thats why so many may have been submitted this time because the people submitting thought that only one would make the cut so they increased their chances (I know that's what I did, and even posted in the info section that I prefer one color get picked over the other and yet both still made the cut). The fact that so many recolors made it through could mean that the other entries that didn't make it through to voting might not have been CW-grade quality. I don't think the recolors "beat" other idea options, I think they're there as fillers so that there is more of an option. I don't know all the submissions but subeta is usually rather picky and if it's something that would have been rejected in terms of submitting it as a CW then that may be why it wasn't entered into the voting round.

I enjoyed some of the selections to choose from. Sadly some of the items I must agree shouldn't have a final round with recolours. There's a lot to risk with it plus think about another CW that could've gotten in instead of the double. It seems unfair for those others.

Your comment makes it sound like you guys just approved anything that met the criteria, vs. previous statements saying you would curate the best to be voted on. Which is it?
Because if it's the first, then yeah, recolors away, advice is fine, but fix the initial statement. But if it's the second, you either still basically contradicted yourselves, or essentially said 'we really like these eyes but -don't- want them to win' by your logic.
Unless y'all just had a lot less qualified entries than expected (and really, just adjust the # you can vote for them) it still doesn't quite make sense.
