Thanks for making the updates, that does look a lot cleaner than it did before.

I really dislike one vote per contest though, especially for ones that are limited to people who entered the contest.

If it has to stay like that, is there a way to kind of gather ones you like as you're looking through the pages to be able to compare them side-by-side afterward (like choosing your own finalists) when voting? Right now it feels a bit discouraging - there are lots of pages to go through and then you have to remember which page your fave is on and if it's actually your fave or if you like the one on a later page better.

I also am not sure I can change my vote anymore? It says you can change at any time by selecting another entry, but the selection /vote option seems to be gone on all the entires once I picked one as my vote. And there doesn't seem to be anything to click on the entry I did vote for to remove it.

Definitely could be missing something though!

it says the "dress me (keith)" contest has voting open and even lets me go to the voting page but unlike the other contests, there's no actual "vote" button. was the intention for us to vote or were you going to pick the winners yourself? seems a little confusing if the contest host is meant to pick a winner but entrants still get prompted to vote even though there's no vote to be had.

I got the alert as well, I think that one was listed as the host choosing winners, but the notation on who can vote seems to have disappeared (that was helpful if it could come back somewhere!).

just pushed out a few updates:

  1. More explicit rules on the front page, with how each phase will go. This is important for the Dress Me contest, which was a "creator chooses" type. That means I choose the top 5 myself, rank them, and then it'll move on to the next phase ("end")
  2. The event will be more clear depending on the type of contest it is. You'll still get an event when it moves to the voting phase (if you've entered - which is why you got one in the first place), but it'll be clear that it's up to the creator to choose the winner.
  3. Language changes on the 'entires' page that make it clear how the voting should be going.

To give you an idea of what this looks like from my end:

I'm going to work on making it so that there is more than 1 vote per user, set per the contest rules with a range of 1-20. Once I get that in, I think this is ready for other folks to make contests 🎉

And just pushed out some (hopefully) final updates for the night:

  1. When the voting_type is public, allow.... the public to vote.
  2. Moved around where the voting logic takes place, not important but makes it easier
  3. Added the option to increase the number of votes per user, and "vote stacking", where users can use up to 5 votes for one outfit

I'm going to continue to look at the voting patterns and the feedback on that page and try to come up with something better than this!

Feedback on voting

  • so much wasted space at the top of the page...

  • I like that you get a reminder how this works before you can see the entries

  • I also like that all entries are there and the total number is given

  • I'd prefer to see the requirements/directive of a contest during voting instead of my entry again and again and the voting procedure

  • very obvious voting button, even I got that immediately!

Now that I've voted myself, here are my two cents on it:

My biggest dislike is how you can see what's been voted on. I am personally of the opinion that it should be hidden until the results come in because I think it could skew votes. It's why questionnaires and polls don't show results until after you have voted. Plus we already have reactions to see how users liked avatars when contests were open so I'm not sure why you'd want to show the votes too.

On a second note, there were a couple of contests I didn't enter and when I went to go vote for them I had no idea what the criteria was for the contest other than a certain wearable needed to be used. It's nice to have a theme/story to stick to but at the end of the day if voters don't see it they will just vote for the prettiest HA. Maybe in the future users could have two votes where they can vote for theme and then vote for best looking?

As for the voting itself, it was smooth, didn't run into any issues! Though I personally would like to see more HA's per page lol.

Pets, amirite? ❤

i agree that i don't like being able to see how many votes other entries have while voting is still active. it just kind of rubs me the wrong way, and i definitely think it could skew votes—e.g. people might see that the entry they would have chosen has no votes and think "aw man, that one is never gonna win! i should vote for one that looks like it has a fighting chance so my vote isn't wasted." for some people it could even have a subconscious effect of mob mentality / voting with the crowd (appeal to popularity fallacy—"if everyone else thinks that one is so great, there must be something to it / it must somehow be the 'right' choice, even if i didn't initially think so").

Most of these will be user run (once I flip the switch) so I think we'll see less entries overall, and creators will have the option to remove avatars that don't fit the theme. They can also choose to make it so they have to be approved before entering. Hopefully that should keep the 'being on theme' pretty light. Creators also have the two big large text fields where they can say more of what they're looking for.

I'm going to make the voting mechanism into an option as well, so the creators can choose to have a blind / anonymous voting, or the public voting. I think that surveys / polls are a little different than a contest, and know from our previous ones that if users are going to try to 'game the system' (by having friends vote for them) they'll do that if the names / votes are showing or not.

I love this feature <3 Can't wait to be able to create contests.

Any chance of seeing the winners easily? Maybe by arranging the contest entries by votes or showing them separately.

I think there should be some kind of clear rule how the system is going to handle ties, I don't really have a good suggestion on what's the best way to handle that though. If you split sp the winners might get less than second place and item prices can't be divided. Maybe something like letting the contest creator decide? Possibly with a deadline and the system just picking a random order after that so that contests won't be left unresolved.

+1 for anonymous voting too. I know it isn't perfect but at least it adds an extra step, glad to see it's going to be added :) I'd definitely use it.

i got the notification that i won the wand-erful mistakes contest and received 25,000,000 sp but then did not actually receive the prize. waited a half hour to see if it was just site delay, checked both the legacy and kumos sites, heck even checked my vault, but nothing. i think it broke?

also +1 on wanting to know if there's a rule for handling ties and if so what it is, and for anonymous voting.

Some things I'm working on now:

sP Prizes sP prizes for the contests that finished today did not go out - I'll be able to handle that easily enough by re-running the prizes on those. You should get your sP by end of day!

Two new options when creating a new contest

  1. Anonymous: Remove usernames and links to the outfits during until after the contest has finished
  2. Blind: Don't show the number of votes during the voting process

Clarifications What happens during a tie? Spell it out on the page (creator is tiebreaker? event everyone and give them one additional vote?), but I also think this will matter less if everyone gives 3+ votes to folks

If having 3+ votes reduces the ties significantly I'd be fine with the system acting as a tiebreaker and randomly deciding the winner. I think with contest that are using public vote that'd probably be the fairest way to solve this.

I'd vote for the contest creator to be a tie breaker rather than a random system decision. It's their contest after all, and they have an idea of what they were looking for.

Also, how do I find out who won? Maybe list the winners first? And my own entry as follow-up to see how it scored?

I totally second the notion of blind voting (no user name, no number of votes so far), that should be default, and maybe the option to disable that manually. It totally affected my own voting (in either direction: oh, this entry got so many votes, I'll chose an entry that hasn't / not wasting my vote and add it to a favourite). Plus it will add an extra step to friendship voting.

Also, maybe have some sorting/filtering system for contests on the overview page? Now with only a handful contests it's easy to find stuff. But once there are lots of contests, a filter for entries I entered would be great, also enabled sorting by creator (or maybe that didn't work because there was only one so far?), Same for the voted/completed section.

All right, contests have lists of the winners and what they got on the page!

Now implementing the last few things, and we should be good to go. I'm really excited to see the contests everyone comes up with 👀

More feedback:

  • Nice that the winners are now listed, how about seeing their entry (and not having to go through all pages to see them) as well as the number of votes?

  • still would like to see how my entry did without having to browse all the pages

  • Now, what happens with old contests? Will the outfits be stored as an image, so that they don't break once the user deletes the outfit from their wardrobe? Will the old contests be removed entirely after a while to avoid broken entries/outfits?

  • Would love a filter for contests I participated in/hosted

All right everyone, one last testing contest, with a quick 24 hour entry period.

This is blind and anonymous, and will allow you to vote up to three times in the voting phase.

Thanks for those suggestions, I'll work some in over the next few days.

I entered, but it says it's blind and anonymous and has community voting with each user getting "ONE" (capitals in quote) vote
