yes, god forbid people enjoy having PETS on the PET SITE. if nobody was meant to have that many, it wouldn't be possible. in the first place, the conversation was not even if the maximum number of slots should be increased, but whether or not there should be additional cheaper / more accessible ways to unlock them.

but if you're so concerned with the site being "bogged down," let's put it this way: in the past, keith has stated that he was looking at ways to limit how many items we could have in the wardrobe, because the way every item had to be stored and called was taking its toll on the server load. shortly thereafter, he explained that he actually figured out a way to make the storing & calling of wardrobe items so much more efficient, that he wouldn't be implementing wardrobe limits after all. why shouldn't the same be said for pets, at least to some degree?

if anything is "bogging down" the site, it's people who will resort to calling other users "inexcusable" and "nuisances" and "beyond excessive" just because they checks notes like to play a game differently than they do.

I remember when pet slots were much more expensive than they are now. The good ol' days, when I was a teenager spending like $100 on two pet slots. (Would do it again tbh.) Anyway, I completely get wanting them to be cheaper or to go on sale, but I don't think the price is too bad, especially since we can buy CSC with sP. Pet slots are pretty affordable and earning sP isn't too hard.

I am... not going to reply to anything else on this topic because my instinct is to start talking about how I'd spend a lot of money if it could get me more petslots, which is kind of the opposite of what this topic is supposed to be about hahaha.

Thank you guys for understanding. I really don't get why I was attacked like that. I'm fine with no pet slot price changes it was merely a suggestion. That's it. Lol. Saying I'm "inexcusable" or "entitled" because I want more pet slots is kind of uncalled for if you ask me. Are we not allowed to play this site the way we want and for reasons we want?

To be honest, I came from neopets, I was a very very avid player of neo for like over a decade. But I have kind of quit now because neopets is a burning trash heap compared to subeta. So I dunno what that person is talking about with bogging down the servers, lol. This site feels so much fresher, cleaner and more functional than neo in so many ways. Plus it's staff actually seem to give a damn about the site, they regularly keep us updated on any issues and do their best to keep it going smoothly. So yeah subeta is waaaaay better and I am able to draw a huge contrast between the two sites. Sorry kind of went on a tangent there, it just needed to be said.

you know what, that's also a good point. us long-time subeta players are so used to the narrative that this site is soooo buggy and unstable that i think people start to overstate the matter. but when you actually compare it to something like neopets—the most POPULAR and MAINSTREAM petsite of all time, that had magazines and video games and official merch and brand partnerships, that spent decades under corporate ownership and built up an incredibly lucrative system of premium currency and membership, that by all accounts SHOULD be the best of the best when it comes to petsites but is 75% broken and heinously frustrating to use—the contrast becomes so blatant it's almost funny.

not to say subeta doesn't have its technical issues and that we should go hogwild with every site functionality and let the ensuing chaos unfold lol—just that i think the severity of the problems gets inflated in some people's minds when they don't have a solid point of reference or comparison.

Yes, yes, that's exactly my point. To someone who came from neopets this site feels like its bug free! (I know it's not bug free it just feels that way in comparison). You really have to of spent years playing neopets to see the sharp contrast between the sites. So yeah, if someone never played neo they might think subeta is the most broken game on the internet, but I have my own perspective of things.

There are periods where it takes me around 5 minutes to access my pet page, because I have so many. Sometimes, I'm not able to access my account information. Just because Neopets is terrible doesn't mean that Subeta isn't broken and laggy when you go somewhere where a lot of data is.

I think there's "current site issues and how they relate to pet and pet slot costs" and then "long term things". I know Keith has been working on some things for Kumos to address the server issue / lag without limiting pet (which I greatly appreciate). I do hope they don't limit pet . On one hand I see why people support caps (and ultimately we do need to balance the long-term site abilities), but on the other hand some folks have already been playing for 10 - 15 years (I'm at like 17.5) and want to keep playing for that long into the future - so having the ability to create and work on a very large number of pets keeps some folks invested through the years! I wouldn't be shocked if pet slots become the occasional prize again or go on "sale" at times once things are all settled at Kumos, because the server problem should then hopefully be resolved. But for now I see both how the prices are pretty reasonable in the big picture and why it's not good for the site to make it too easy for everyone to have 50+ pets. I also think the perspective of older and newer users is interesting! Like I remember when the slots cost even more, and when you couldn't have more than like 20 pets. So being able to have over 100 now and having so many ways to get slots is like, woah. What Subeta continues to be as it marches forward relies on both perspectives I think! Because newer users aren't going to care that it "used to" be xyz, they're going to care about their experience. I think I'm just rambling now lol

Good golly. o.o Thankfully at 60-odd pets I still have almost instant loading.

I've got like. Under 30 pets. But my battle records are starting to slow down again as I grind more of my pets. That's why I keep my records on an external spreadsheet now, so then I don't have to go to those records here on the site unless I need to double check for any errors on my end with the spreadsheet.

So the queries are definitely a thing, and that's why I see TNT on Neo are reluctant to give more pet slots. Because they too probably have similar baggage; the amount of records having to be fetched and displayed back takes time. And that's not something people over there understand about, no matter how many times it's explained why pet slots are probably not gonna increase any time soon. Atm you can own 80 pets between 5 accounts there, or 80+4 if you're Premium on your main.

It's definitely been a learning process to see why limits were placed the way they were on Neo all those years ago, and how trying to lift those caps can lead to problems.

Yeah I'm two short of the ultimate maximum and it's...very difficult to access pets at times. Not always, but I can see why Keith is looking at options.

But like you, I'm upset when people go and blame pet people for being greedy. We funded this site from the beginning - pet slots have always been very expensive, and potions have been historically been some of the highest priced items in the cash shop.

Remember when a pet name change was 10$? Because I remember, booyah!

Pet people were the backbone of funding in the early years, and just because we're not anymore doesn't mean we're an hindrance.
