Because a dislike button feature will be abused as usual, for reasons people listed above. People cannot be trusted with such an ability. hence why even Youtube removed it.

Besides, Subeta is quiet enough that it's better if the forums appear more active than just liking or disliking a post/suggestion.

Hard no. This isn't reddit and this will easily be abused.

so, hypothetically, if there were a person who repeatedly made aggressively negative & disparaging posts, and then blocked people for disagreeing with them because they felt "harassed" despite everyone being overwhelmingly cordial & helpful in the face of their bad attitude, do you think that person would feel better or worse being able to see how many people actively disliked their posts?

Efficient coding is important of course, but there needs to be a balance between this and delivering a quality service, otherwise our smartphones and tablets would just be portable command prompts. The server costs of one or two posts saying 'no' is much smaller than the "social costs" of a dislike button, for the many reasons already stated. Hell, even the one site I browse where you're basically required to be at least 10% dick per post doesn't have a like/dislike function and users are forced to make the bare minimum effort to insult someone.

I personally don't see how a dislike or like button thingy would be any more helpful than a forum post of someone saying 'no support'. Most people who do post follow up with WHY they don't want it, so....I dunno, I feel like it's a waste when people are going to post anyways.

The site is 18 years old. I think if people posting "no support" was seen as too much of a server drain or whatever compared to a dislike button, the dislike button would already exist.

The "like" button is also already finicky as it stands. If the site is laggy or if you're on mobile, clicks often just don't register (or do register but don't actually stick once you refresh the page or come back). A dislike button that functions just as well would be even less helpful than people just posting "no support" with no reasoning

Oh, also...Imagine creatives putting up their work and people start hitting the dislike button? That would be awful. It's like an anon button and that's too much power abuse, tbh.

No way, zero support. I already hate Reddit's stupid downvote system and that's a place with a lot of users. A smaller place like Subeta getting something like that? Awful.

This would just promote unnecessary negativity. Use your words to tell someone why you don't like their post or just block them and move on.

Posts that just say "no support" and don't elaborate are the exact same.

They are not - you have to put your username to your "no support" post, whereas clicking a dislike button is anonymous. We all know people are way more okay with being mean or negative when its anonymous.

Making a post is high stakes - even a simple no support post, whereas a dislike button is low stakes. When I don't support an idea AND make a post, rather than just move on and do nothing, its because I not only don't like the idea, but feel it would negatively impact the site. This is very different than just hitting a dislike button.

And for the record, I do not support a dislike button.

That's why I wanted to propose a feature where you can see the usernames of everyone who gave your post a dislike, but there are most likely going to be MORE problems with that, so...

I am pretty sure that if this feature was implemented, people would keep on making threads where they wonder why all their posts are negative and how much of a clique people are. We're already a small crew, it would be horrible to have that kind of feature. I don't see anything positive coming out of it.

Likes are anonymous, and while I'd love to see who liked my post, I would HATE to see who dislikes my posts.

There are some people that are very thin skinned and see a "no support" as something hateful, loathsome, while it's often a "reconsider how you see things, your idea might need more time in the oven"

No support. This is a very fast recipe for forum drama and harassment. Either ignore/block players, or report them if their posts are breaking the community guidelines.
